Hi everyone:

I am new to this forum. I've had vs. 7.1 for over a year (maybe 2) but never tried to play over a LAN until two days ago. Tried to play on home computers with 98SE and XP Pro, then 98SE and ME. In both cases I received an error message stating that a connetion could not be made. However, the computers recognize the presence of the other computer.

Half life also works.

Can someone help me please?

Thanks!

Salute, AirportsJeff.

I had the same problem, exactly with that OS-Combination. Got grey hair about that.

But we solved it:

You need to enter the network-adresses of the machines (the menu should tell you the right adresses on the screen) into the "system-control/network". In my case it has been
the XP-machine where i had to do it. After that it should work.

Sometimes (on big maps) the red "want-to-fire?"-line isn´t in the center of the screen
of the actual computer, so don´t be confused. You should see the question under the
action-screen, if you say "no" it will go to the next unit which is able to fire on the enemy.
Than you will see it.

Hope this helps!

Hi All, I am confused. Why not just play a hotseat game? Wouldn't this be the same as playing a lan game? I assume you have both computers in the same room. This way you only need one computer and just swap chairs each turn. Does a lan game give some advantage, like OP fire. Op fire is the one thing I miss when playing a PBEM battle, but the HI (human intelligence) without OP fire far outweighs fighting AI with OP.

Salute, Jamminji.

I personally hate those "hot-seat-games". LAN rules. Everybody has its own Terminal,
his own mug of beer, his own boxes... never played PBEM, but over LAN it´s like
playing against the AI! I never played via internet at all. I prefer to sit with my counter-
part in the same room and hear him crying for mercy. But nobody has to look
on my screen, of course.

Greetings!
