I really had to laugh. Starshatter is coming out as well and when I get enough money I do plan on getting it, but WiTP comes first.

Anyhoo what made me laugh is looking at all the people signed into their forum. 4 or 5 and I was one of them at the time. Then you come to this forum......

Yeah, I would have thought that staggering the releases might have made things easier on the DL front and also some of us would have bought another game while waiting. Of course, no one would want *their* game to be the last in the delivery pipeline.

I don't mind them staggering the releases. As long as WitP comes first.

Diversification is a key strategy for these guys to stay in business, solvent and profitable. Let them do what they need to do so us grogs can have our fun with the likes of WITP and other upcoming wargames. Hell, I don't care if they do Barbie Doll games on the side if it brings in the dough to support the development of games that I do care about.

I'm not sure why Matrix is involved with this project. Doesn't appeal to their core audience at all. The forum is dead.

Is it in any good? No idea. Hopefully it can generate some revenue for them, but this is not who they are.

If it keeps them solvent and helps fund development/publishing of wargames, so much the better.

But if it defocuses them and leads them to pursue the almighty dollar of mainstream titles (e.g., Talonsoft), it could be a long-term curse....

Guys, StarShatter is a great game - we're carrying it because of its quality and because we're also sci-fi fans. I played the heck out of the Wing Commander and X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter series' when they were out, at the same time as I was playing tabletop Avalon Hill and Victory Games titles and doing some miniatures as well. Our goal really is to release games that we enjoy playing and not to release them until we would want to buy them ourselves.

StarShatter hasn't has as much pre-release buzz as WitP and a much shorter time from Matrix acquisition to release, but we will be pushing it hard this summer and I believe this will be a huge hit. As others noted, we're one company so when one product does well, all products benefit.

Regards,

- Erik

I'm looking forward to it, but I can't afford to buy both right now.

If two releases are not enough you can also now download version 8.2 of SPWaW!!! Also the SPWaW General Edition which includes all the Mega Campaigns will be available for DD for $70, about the same time as WitP.

The game does look very good. I plan on purchasing a new joystick (haven't had a need for one since maybe 2001) and trying out the demo. If I like, I will buy it too.

You've got to have something to do while you wait for your PBEM opponent to flip the turn back to you.

I enjoyed the demo of Starshatter. I'm just not very good at that sort of game, so I'm not sure I'll buy it, but I'm glad Matrix is publishing it.

Just noticed the general edition of SPWaW is now up on the US version of the DR store. (page 2 of the wwii section).

In all the hubbub about WITP, are you guys pushing to get Starshatter out today also?
