I don't know if this has any relevance to the leader bug - probably not - but I have found a number of what seem to be duplicate leader references in the scenario database files (so far I have only checked scenario 15).

I have a script which looks for leaders that are assigned in more than one place in the data for ground units, air units and ships. I think a lot of the ship duplicates are valid, such as ships of the same name, which I have removed from the output, but what about the others? Should these be fixed?

The output from my script is as follows:

Checking for duplicate leaders in Locataions file.
Duplicate leader number 643 found in unit "2nd", row 1433. Leader is already assigned to unit "25th", row 1338!
Duplicate leader number 2933 found in unit "12th Naval", row 1559. Leader is already assigned to unit "6th Naval", row 1098!

Looks like they could have done with your script when they were making the scenarios ...

The game engine will allow a leader to be in two places at once. Whether this causes any problems I don't know.

You can also see in China at the start of Scenario 15 that the same leader is in charge of both a headquarters and a line unit in the same hex. Check around each city, you will see it more than once. I reported this anomaly to Pry along with my other posts about leaders changing and WOs changing to Japanese officers, etc. I think there are multiple causes for leaders changing, one possibly being the intermixing of nationalities in the database so if something is wrong in coding that it will grab from one of a group of lines and you may get someone of a different nationality than your unit.

Leaders disappear for no apparent reason in your TFs at sea as well.
Leaders change during combat splits of TFs and you may get a different nationality in charge.
Leaders that are a WO will change in the next game turn...usually to a Japanese officer.

I have discovered duplicate leaders when attempting to replace some leaders.
I have seen some apparently identicle leaders in the database having very
different leadership and inspiration values.

for instance, I have seen 2 very different entries for Gen W.C. Short while attempting to change
another leader.

Sorry Mr. Fraq. Didn't include that DXDiag file.
