Guys, with the release of 8.3, my job is done in this capacity. I'm resigning as forum moderator, but I'll still be around as a gamer and a representative of the OOB Team, and I will try to help answer questions on game play and the changes we made.

Thanks for bearing with me.

Glenn

I'm sorry to hear this. I think it must be difficult if you do something without being paid for it and then, at the slightest misunderstanding, are compared with 'African Dictators'....
Things like that kill the motivation.

Kind regards,
Roland

KG, I think you've done a good job under very trying circumstances. You got little to no support from the company and constantly got caught in the middle. I'm surprised you stayed with it this long. With your resignation and the last MG patch, this spells the beginning of the end of the Matrix SPWAW community.

I hope the circumstances of your resigning were amiable. Thanks for all you've done here Glenn. I would have just went fishing long ago!

And one more vote of thanks. You have indeed done an outstanding job under very difficult circumstances. After all the flak you've taken while trying to do the best you could to support the interests of both the "community" and Matrix Games, I suspect it will be very hard to replace you.

Best of luck, and ... thanks.

Glenn:

Thanks for all of your hard work. I know its not an easy task and some may not understand how much of your personal time is required to fullfill your responsibilities. We all appreciate your efforts and those of Matrix to support the SPWAW gaming community.

I have to disagree in part.

KG did a job most would not have taken.
As such that shows he has guts (ok I will say it that way for KGs sake :) ).

I don't think the SPWaW community is in danger of "dying" though.
The game quite frankly has too many fans.

Now whether or not we will see any "official" interest past 8.3 is hard to say.
I thought the game was as done as dinner back at 5. Then it was 6. then it was 7.
Then it was 7 and a bit more.
Then it was 8 and the ultimate version.
Which became and and a bit more. and a bit more.

Somewhere along the way though, Matrix Games has to finally tell the fans, "look if you think you can do better, then shut up and produce".
Not meant to sound nasty, but just making it plain, I don't feel I am owed anything more.

I don't think anyone that has bought a MC is owed any more.
I don't think anyone that has bought the General's edition is owed anything more.

Yes you heard correct. All of you guys screaming over incredibly small minutae, get with the reality.
You could have a game like a few people know I love to hate, which don't play worth squat at all.

And there will always be the small percentage that are just cursed.
Because, software being software, is just never going to cooperate 100% on 100% of the machines out there 100% of the time.

Life's like that.

So KG, thanks for your hard work man.
But do the smart thing, go now and enjoy being a gamer like the rest of us.
Spout off when you want, respond when you want, answer when you want, and worry about what you want :)

Les, I didn't say the SPWAW community would die out. Just the Matrix community. And the depot will get stronger and take over what we had here in times past.

And no one can do better than Matrix because they won't release the code. If Matrix would make the code public domain then there are some at the depot who could fix the game and the MCs.

And I still believe the MCs should be fixed even if you don't.

The only thing that's changing is my status vis a vis the forums. I talked to David earlier today, and he fully understands and respects my decision. I've been thinking about this for months, and now that 8.3 is available, the time was right for me to relinquish my mod status.

The forum, IMHO, is alive & well, and there is no animosity or ill feeling between me and David or anyone else involved with Matrix and the community.

Thanks to everyone for their kind words. I have no intention of wandering away into the wilderness. The whole community contributes to SPWaW, and I'll continue to offer my opinions and scraps of knowledge in order to benefit the enjoyment and understanding of the game.

PS I see the mod avatar is still there. I'll see what I can do to get it removed.

Hexed - Stop freaking preaching off topic in threads where it doesn't belong! How about a 'Thanks KG, great job!' like he deserves?

KG - Like most of the guys, I want to say thanks and good job.

Thanks, Goblin. No one is really "left on their own". I still have David's phone number, and the line of communication does go both ways.

Most of the Matrix staff is either at or on their way to the Internationale Kriegspiel Convention in Germany, so for the moment I still have mod privileges.

The Gunny can still wreak a little havoc, but would I do that? Naaah, of course not.

Thing is Rich, the Matrix Community comprises hmm quite a few forums with quite a few games actually.

But even still, I don't think even this one section will totally "die off".

Goblin, I did thank him.
As for off topic?
Sorry if it seemed off topic to you.
What's interesting, is I never once mentioned something about anything non Steel Panthers in my post.
So my only thought is, what is your definition of off topic?

dr smith seemed to like my post :)

The topic here is KG's resignation, not your copy/paste same old post you post everywhere. That is what I was refering to.

Ok to beat this to death Goblin, you show me exactly which part of my post was copy pasted from elsewhere.

Otherwise, what exactly is bugging you?

All of your posts are exactly the same. Just like you copy/pasted them from a prior thread. It was sarcasm. look it up.

I won't post again, as I am now just as guilty as you of taking this way off topic.

Hi Guys

Glenn did a good job as Moderator and we thank him for his time and effort. Glenn and I had already talk about him resigning and this is fine time for him to be doing it. We are pretty much done with SPWaW and we do not expect to release any more patches or Mega Campaigns.

We will not be adding another Moderator to this forum at this time.

Group, AT-ten-SHUN!

All those who hear these presents, greetings. The secretary of the Internet (Al Gore) wishes to express his gratitude in the integrity, loyalty and dedication of KG "Gunny" Erwin for successfully completing his tour of duty as Moderator for a bunch of @#$% wargamers and he is awarded the "Order of the Palm Tree" with oak leaf clusters for a job well done.

Dis-MISSED.

(Since there is no Moderator now, I typed this while I was buck necked.)

Hi Guys

I received a few emails asking me if we were really done with SPWaW. I think the final answer will be yes. Most of the team here worked on SPWW2 on The Gamers Net and then moved on to SPWAW with Matrix. Its been well over six years and its time for us to move on. I will leave the door unlocked but I doubt any of us will be going through that door again.

I want to take this moment to thank all the moderators we had at the SPWaW forums over the years for do a really great job. One of the reason SPWaW did so well was because it was a community base effort. I would also really like to thank the fans for their support over the years.

David Heath

I want to add that in today's light-speed world, the fact that Matrix worked on SPWaW over a six-year span, continually adding improvements, is a testament to both the greatness of the game itself and the dedication that the company gave to the fans.

I say this both as a player and later a contributor to what I regard as one of the best wargames of all time. 8.3 is indeed the final patch, but the game will continue to reside on my PC and players will undoubtedly keep the legacy alive for years to come.

It's been a great ride, and I truly believe that the old warhorse has some mileage left in it.
