How is that there is no fuel going from Brisbane to Cooktown over land?
Cooktown requests 3000 fuel, Brisbane has plenty. I imagine truck or train convoys going north, but Cooktown is still without oil.
In the meantime I set up a Tanker TF from Brisbane to Cooktown, I'm guessing the aircraft at Cooktown won't fly without juice

#1, aircraft run on supplies, not oil.

#2, Oz is pretty short on fuel, takes quite a while before there is enough to flow around and keep everyone happy.

Fuel and Oil are two separate things.

The rule you want to read is 14.3 on page 188 of the manual.

Hmmm. I was under the (false?) impression that fuel did not "flow around", that only supplies auto-moved?

Set me straight?

Thanks Mr. Frag !

So supplies include fuel for airplanes?
And Cooktown won't get fuel from Brisbane till there is "satisfactory" in Brisbane ?

As for oil and fuel being two seperate things, that's obvious. Cooktown just read : Requests 3000 fuel, so I figured...

Fuel will distribute around in similar vein to Supply, albeit a bit slowly at first.

So it's best to give it a little boost when needed.

Thanks Nikademus, this helps alot!

Ok. Try this on for size:

Overland supply/fuel is moved by the computer from one location to where it is needed by using the rules on page 188 of the manual.

Quote: "a supply value is generated. This value determines whether a supply move is legal, and how much is used up during the move. The supply value of a move is calculated by subtracting the following from 100."

The supply value for hexes traversed are the same as the ground movement costs given on page 149, by the way.

So, what it looks like to me, the supplies use ground movement costs to go from Brisbane to Cooktown, with wastage bulit in.

There are 11 rail hexes from Brisbane to Townsville, then 3 road hexes to Cairns, then 2 trail hexes to Cooktown.

11 rail hexes = 22. 3 road hexes = 15. 2 trail hexes = 50. 22+15+50=87. Whew! Just in range you say.
But wait! Supply used up will be 87%! So only 13% of what gets sent from Brisbane will arrive in Cooktown. 3000 Feul x 13% = 390.

And, I think that supplies/feul are moved this way, by the computer, only once every three days. I think. Veterans please confirm my hypothesis.

Close, but it's a little more complicated then that.

there are 3 different ranges that are used, to ensure good product spread (otherwise everything would go to the one greedy base).

It is a 3 day cycle, first range = 90, then 40, then 10 if memory serves.

Mogami:

Ok, thanks. At least I was on the right track.

Salient:

Basically, the bottom line is your gonna have to ship supplies/feul to Cooktown and the bases along the northern OZ coast...

Yep, Oz is huge, about 4 x the maximum range that things will flow.
