Just bought WITP but game is completely unplayable. Patched to version 1.4. Game freezes up completely the first time a combat is resolved. Didn't seem to happen in version 1.2 - just got the usual occaisional lock ups. What is going on? Have P3 800 mhz, 32mb TNT2. Tried fresh installs but nothing changed. Help.

Follow the directions above to post your dxdiag results.

I see your monitor/video is running at 800 x 600 (16 bit)(optimal refresh rate)

Does it support 1024x768 ?

Sure does. Disabled the sound files and the game runs fine. This must be the problem. What do I need to do to get them to work?

You can try sliding the acceleration tab in dxdiag to the left within dxdiag sound setting ... Other then that, sort through the audio codexes you have installed to find the one that causes the problem. There really is no valid reason that Windows Media Audio format files would lock up your machine.

There is a set with a lower sample rate failing that located here.

ftp://ftp.matrixgames.com/pub/WarInThePacific/

you want the WarInThePacificSoundPatch.exe one ... 22khz sample rate.

Thanks Mr Frag. The sound patch works a treat. Occaisional bit of 'stuttering' but no more lock-ups. All I need to do now is get my head round this game!!!

You might want to invest some time looking for some newer drivers, but depending on your hardware, that can be even more frustrating.

I know I've been through quite a few sound cards over the years due to problems with glitches and hangs. They are rather hit and miss. Brand name doesn't mean very much.
