SlapBone,

The problem is due to the fact that your Arial font has been modified by another program. There is a solution listed under common problems on this forum. But, to recap, you need to delete your current Arial font and replace it with a new one. (I have also heard that you can simply delete the Arial font and reboot, Windows will fix it for you automatically.)

The procedure:

From the control panel, select Fonts. Find the "Arial" font and delete it. From the File menu, select "Install New Fonts...". Browse for the ARIAL.TTF file and install it. Re-run the game, and it should now work correctly. (Technically, we can not provide an ARIAL.TTF file for you since it is a Windows file. However, you should be able to find one on a nearby machine, off the Internet or from a Windows install disk.)
