Current Version 7.0 with Sound Patch Playing against the AI during op-fire, the screen goes blank with the only item showing is the AI wanting to know if I want to fire at a unit. Whether I answer "Y" or "N" the screen comes back and play is continued until I have another opportunity to fire and the same thing happens. Again, this only occurs during my Op-Fire. I re-load Version 5.01 (without the sound patch)and it seems to work fine. System Specs:
Dell Inspiron Laptop [brand new baby :-) ]
900Mhz Pent
120 MB RAM
16 MB video RAM

Forgot to say that I'm running Windows XP. I have tried to run it under compatability mode and I've had no luck. I guess I should point of V5.01 runs fine under XP.

Try changing display settings, SPWAW was designed to run @ 800X600 and tinker with refresh rate, laptops can be extrememly sensitive to this. Delete the steel.prf file in the MatrxGames\SPWAW directory, than restart the game, the game will recreate it once you adjust anything in the preference screen. In the preference screen make sure Command and Control is off, this conflicts with newer operating systems higher than Win 98SE, make sure you have the latest drivers. Ensure that you don't have a bunch of programs running in the background. Try reducing video hardware acceleration. The only real change between 5.01 and 7.0 in operating specs was 7.0 required a newer DirectX 6.1a which shouldn't be a problem for you because XP installs 8.1a (sometimes this version is a little buggy though). Also a beta of 7.1 is available for download until the final is released, which you will need because you'll eventually see a "waiting for all players to sync" message in ver 7.0 while playing solitare that will end you game immediately. Click here The Armor Site it may prove to be more stable. Give some or all of these a try and let us know on the results.
