February 11th, 1943 IBC Bangkok is now at zero resources and HI. I’m now resting the LB’s to hit Hanoi’s airfield. The only nearby airfield with Japanese Air force presence. I’ve upgraded one more P-40E’s squadron to P-38’s. I’ll be able to escort some 500 LBs (from Rangoon and Moulmein) with 90+ P-38’s. A few days to recover and then Hanoi’s airfield will be history. A base Force is unloading in Tavoy, from there I’ll provide fighter cover for the amphibious TF directed to Victoria Point. On board the 26th Indian Division. Meanwhile I’m sending another TF to recover the 23rd Indian Division from Port Blair, I’ll leave only a Base Force there (30 AV). Luckily the CV Victorious will arrive in Karachi in a couple of weeks. I’ll send her back to Mr. Churchill and I’ll therefore be able to use the PPs to convert more INF units (Chinese, NZ, and West Coast). I’ll soon need lots of Assault Points. GH is playing a super Sir Robin. From the look of it he’ll make his stand in PI, Japan and China. I’ll have to fight a super concentrated Japan force. AUSTRALIA – NG “Operation Rise and Shine” was a ‘boring’ success. The Japs keep running. I found nobody in Broome (one tiny garrison unit) and no naval or air interference. The usual unloading bug has caused 70% of the assault points for Exmouth to be unloaded one hex out. I’ll finish to unload the rest and I’ll go get them. GH has agreed not to attack. The only real problem with this is that I need Exmouth as a step to Broome for short legged aircrafts. Broome is now a US base, full Aviation Support. One squadron of P-38, (2) of Mariners, (1) F-5 and (1) Hudson on Naval Attack. To get P-40’s and Beaufort’s I need Exmouth. Annoying, but nothing serious. I’m really astonished by this lack of fighting spirit on the Japanese side. The ‘jump’ to Broome was not an easy one, no LBA to protect the ships, no nearby base to recover damaged ships. I really think he should have challenged me (at least with the LBA), I had already planned on loosing some/many ships and having some major vessel damaged, instead it’s been a piece of cake. Now I can hit Darwin. I’ll probably be able to land in Darwin in 2-3 weeks from now. I don’t get it. He has several adjacent bases, lots of sea for me to cross and yet he tries nothing! PACIFIC As you now know “Operation Dawn” was aimed at Lunga. Tonight the first troops landed, tomorrow they’ll attack. I have big amount of Seabees to make sure I’ll have the airfield at size one in 2-3 days, tops. I decided to go for Lunga and not PM because Lunga had less Japanese LBA nearby and I had some. A few hexes from Lunga my carrier based aircrafts attacked a lonely Japanese AK, protected by some Rufe’s. Corsair’s scored their first kills. Needless to say that the Rufe’s have been shot down like ducks. Unless GH decides to react, next step will be PM. I need to reconnect the Pacific with Northern Australia, to avoid the longer trip to the West. I may be able to launch the offensive for DEI in May. I’d love to hear your opinion on the next steps. Right now I’ve decided to forget about Tarawa and CENPAC and I’m thinking Rabaul and Borneo from the South and Sumatra from the North. But I’ve never been here. Any suggestion out there? One last comment: wow! The Allies in ’43 are really fearsome.
