Sir;

A few of us at the Ford Island print shop were a bit alarmed at the print order recently received from USS Chicago. Please review.

Truely a great movie down to Slim Pickens riding the bomb down like it is a bull at a rodeo. And then Dr Stangelove talking about the type of people(women) that will be needed for the years of hiding underground in the fall out shelters.

Some twat is going to remake Dr. Strangelove I've heard. If that's the case, if terrorists ever threaten Hollywrood, let them blow the crap out of it.

Sunday, 15 March, 1942
64th Bombardment Squadron (Heavy), 43d Bombardment Group (Heavy), arrives at Sydney, Australia from the US with B-17's; first mission is 13 August.

Tuesday, 24 March, 1942
Air echelon of 91st Bombardment Squadron (Light), 27th Bombardment Group (Light), ceases operating from Brisbane, Australia and begins moving to Charters Towers, Australia with A-24's. Ground echelon is on Bataan, Luzon, Philippine Islands.

Wednesday, 25 March, 1942
16th and 17th Bombardment Squadrons (Light), 27th Bombardment Group (Light), cease operating from Brisbane, Australia with A-24's and begin moving to Charters Towers, Australia

Thursday, 26 March 1942
3 B-17's of the 40th Reconnaissance Squadron (Heavy), 19th Bombardment Group (Heavy), evacuate Philippine President Manual L Quezon and his family to Australia.

Friday, 27 March, 1942
30th Bombardment Squadron (Heavy), 19th Bombardment Group (Heavy), transfers from Melbourne to Cloncurry, Australia with B-17's; ground echelon is on Bataan and Mindanao, Philippine Islands.

Saturday, 28 March, 1942
HQ 43d Bombardment Group (Heavy) and 63d and 65th Bombardment Squadrons (Heavy) arrive at Sydney, Australia from the US with B-17's. First mission for the 63rd is on 14 August; first mission for the 65th is on 12 November. 28th Bombardment Squadron (Heavy), 19th Bombardment Group (Heavy), transfers from Melbourne to Cloncurry, Australia with B-17's; a detachment begins operating from Perth, Australia; ground echelon is on Bataan on Mindanao, Philippine Islands. 80th Pursuit Squadron (Interceptor), 8th Pursuit Group (Interceptor), transfers from Brisbane to Lowood, Australia with P-39's; first mission is 22 July.

Sunday, 29 March, 1942
19th Bombardment Squadron (Medium), 22d Bombardment Group (Medium), transfers from Ipswich to Townsville, Australia with B-26's; first mission is 6 April. 93d Bombardment Squadron (Heavy), 19th Bombardment Group (Heavy), transfers from Melbourne to Cloncurry, Australia with B-17's; ground echelon is on Bataan and Mindanao, Philippine Islands; first mission is 23 July.

Tuesday, 7 April, 1942
During the night of 6/7 April, the Japanese break the Philippine II Corps front on Bataan, thus necessitating immediate removal or an remaining fighters to Mindanao, where for the next 3 days they will fly reconnaissance, cover heavy bombers (sent to Mindanao from Australia) operating against concentrations at Legaspi, Cebu, Iloilo, and Davao, and carry out a strafing attack aircraft at Davao. After the heavy bombers return to Australia on 12 Apr, the fighters will continue to fly reconnaissance until Japanese forces envelop the troops on Mindanao on 1 May. From reading "USAAF Official Squadron" histories, i am pretty sure that the dates for these "transfers" is when the HQ staff arrives and begins preparations for arrival (i.e. - where are we going to put the planes? The maintenance shops? Where do our troops bunk? Eat? Etc., etc.) It really doesn't tell you when the WHOLE squadron (i.e. the personal and equipment) shows up. But, i agree the whole process is super-accelerated in the game...

Apparently not.

1) With a deteriorating supply situation in Changsa, Gen Chu's 8th War Area forces (including the only 35 operative Chinese armored vehicles for 500 miles) launch an attack to encircle the Japanese 40th and 13th Divisions and relieve the defenders of Changsha.

2) The attack nearly succeeds, but the shoulders of the salient hold and a quick counterattack by the Japanese 6th Div. and a reserve brigade cuts off the head of the salient.

3) Some 21,000 Chinese troops are kiled, wounded or captured along with 4200 Japanese. Gen Liu orders the Changsha defenders to pull back across the river.

***************Scene: Office of General Arnold, Washington*************

Gen Arnold: "Chennault?! Chennault?! How long has that crackpot been in charge of the 7th Air Force? I thought the annoying SOB quit. I'm quite certain I did NOT approve that "

Major E. Chord: <contritely> "Officially, starting today sir. You did not approve the assignment, it was a special request of the President when you were reviewing 8th Air Force bases in England."

Gen Arnold: "Gawd, I wish the civilian leadership would let us run this thing! <takes head in hands>........Wait...Major, strike that, I did not just say that, understood?"

Major E. Chord: "Understood, sir"

Gen Arnold: "Who does he report to?"

Major E. Chord: "That would be Adm King, sir, new CIC of SouthPac"

Gen Arnold: "Poor bastard"

Poor, Poor Palliser

Bloody aggressive use of IJN resources, if you ask me What the heck are the Kamaikawa Maru and APD's doing that far South?? Can the Kamikawa Maru hold a bunch of troops? If so, where the heck are they headed? New Zealand? Perhaps just bait. Interesting development though.

Note that I had the dates frame-shifted ahead by one day on the last map.
