Please hurry up and finish this project so you can concentrate on a refinement of your stategic American Civil War game. We need to have a strategic game of the American civil war that works. Your other attempt was very good but not quite there. Please direct you considerable tallents to this effort.

Any one rememeber Victory Games "The Civil War 1861 - 1865? I still have dreams of that one redone on computer.

Hey! I prepaid for that one back when Mr Hunter had his own Adanac website.
20$ I think it was. Must be 3 or 4 years ago.
Wonder if my name is still registered somewhere?

I mailed Frank a while back and transferred my preorder from ACW to Trench. Of course, that was back when it was still called Trench :) .

Apparantly we will have to wait until Black Powder Wars is released before this game will be completed, because Frank is working on that game at the moment....

I would love to see that game done as a computer game. It is an excellent game that captures the flavor of the period and is very playable at the same time.

Aside - AH had made a computer version of it, but they botched it badly from everything I have heard.

Yep - you guys are right on it. This, as far as I am concerned, is the absolute best strategic wargame ever committed to paper and cardboard. The treatment of the all-important leader aspect of warfare during this historical period is nothing short of brilliant (particularly when the "uncertain leader characteristics at outset" mod published in a later AH General issue is included).

But, wait a minute. Can we trust design of a wargame that relies so heavily on leader competence and advancement to Matrix after WitP???

I know it's not quite the same, but, there is a mod for Vassal (or Aide De Camp, I forget which one) that allows you to play this one on the PC. It's not a fully playable game v.s. an AI, but, it brought back a lot of memories for me as I think this was the best strategic level game on the ACW. It's worth a look if this interests you.

I also would enjoy an American Civil War game, but lets get Guns of August out first.

There is an Aide de Camp module for GMT Games For the People. It's an excellent grand strategic level ACW boardgame. As I recall the ability to intercept enemy movement slows down the pace when doing it via PBEM but it's still a great game.

I've given up holding my breath for Guns of August, much less a remake of his Civil War game, as the end does not seem to be in sight for Black Powder. I know Matrix likes to keep everyone informed of upcoming titles, but there is too much vaporware here IMHO.

Edit - I still have the Victory Games Civil War game in the closet. Now I'll have to pull it out tonight.
