AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 01/24/42

SRA

Not much to report, Java is still abandoned by the enemy air force. Tomorrow will 35th bde and tk rtg start disembarking at Kragen, while fast BB TF will bombard Soerbaya.

I lost contact with enemy CV(s) and have to be careful - although Andy can't count on suprise in upcoming invasion on Timor (Koepang) i'm ready for his classic tricks: intercept by surface TF and moving planes in empty AF to attack my ships. I want to be sure that this will not happend and sent small invasion force to capture one of small bases north of Koepang (AF size 1). This base will be my eyes in south Indian ocean.

SS O24 torpedoed AK at Kendari, she is hit from the air (float plane) latter. As you can see below, i already started advanced training program

Day Air attack on 81st PA Division, at 42,58

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 24
Ki-27 Nate x 12

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 1 damaged

There are some wierd things in WiTP and i have no clue why planes sometimes refuse to fly. Zero's did not flew sweep mission on Tjilitjap, but LBA from Kuching done their mission regulary. Forutunatly, few demoralised Dutch fighter couldn't stop them. Several transports reported two hexes W of the base, and no warship hit (or identified) in the port.

Japanese aircraft
G3M Nell x 16
G4M1 Betty x 47

Allied aircraft
Wirraway x 1
Hawk 75A x 1
CW-21B Demon x 3

Japanese aircraft losses
G3M Nell: 3 damaged
G4M1 Betty: 1 destroyed, 5 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
CW-21B Demon: 1 damaged

Allied Ships
AK Boelongan, Bomb hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
AK De Klerk, Bomb hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
AK Tjikarang, Bomb hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
AK Elout, Bomb hits 1, on fire, heavy damage

Allied ground losses:
139 casualties reported
Guns lost 3

Port hits 2
Port supply hits 2

South SD attacked without supply enemy garnison at Macassar. They will finish their job tomorrow without sushi portions!

I'm waiting while my MSW clear Singapore port, after that i can start a real invasion on Java!

Ground combat at Macassar

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 6075 troops, 76 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 1128 troops, 7 guns, 0 vehicles

Japanese assault odds: 2 to 1 (fort level 2)

Japanese Assault reduces fortifications to 0

Japanese ground losses:
201 casualties reported
Guns lost 5

Allied ground losses:
31 casualties reported

Jambi is occupied.

CHINA

Bah! As you may recall i had a offensive air raid in my mind against Chungking - but planes did not fly form Wuhan too. Yeah, don't have Air HQ there but less than 100 planes are in Wuhan AF (weather was good)

PHILIPPINES

Same situation like in the China. Bombers ordered for Manila AF attack did not fly, but those which were set on ASW did - Sallys scored two hits on SS Permit!.

I have less than 350 planes (8 size*50=400 planes) more than 250 air support, Air HQ and plenty of supply) there... tjah!

Aircraft will sometime just not fly. There is a "Commander's Discretion" rule (7.2.2.12) on p.131 which lists some of the factors that supposidly affect this. But what it boils down to is that sometimes you aircrews simply refuse to fly and there is nothing you can do to prevent it.

Have you checked weather on those bases and moral levels of your bomber squadrons ? That can be the reason why they don't fly...

hi guys... none of above can affect missions (in my case)... high exp, good moral, one hex distance (Manila-CF), good weather, plenty of supply etc....

they just refuse to fly and I'm guessing that it is some glitch in program code which causes (sometimes) described problems... It is annoying, but i can live with that - i like to imagine that this is lack of coordination between air and ground HQ-s.

Good job pauk. You seem to be taking DEI with very little losses.

I noticed you are commanding CV Hosho in WPO, I'm gonna enjoy sinking it

, yeah, i'm KB fanboy even in 1920s...

Thanks, it seems that Andy licking wounds, but i can not be too cautious at the moment. His CV's and BBs dissapeared. Some units are evacuating from the Java but right now it's too much enemy units in the Soerbaya (20.000, 9 units - of course it could be a bad recon, but...). . My guess is that he is a really scared with possible invasion of the India, but the last thing i needs now is to be ambushed - stupidly ambushed.
]

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 01/25/42

Pre-emptive bombardment of Soerbaya had moderate success. Lone dutch PT couldn't stand against my TF and sank. DD Murakumo hits mine but she will be ok (again no escort bombard was set!?!)

Allied ground losses:
2634 casualties reported
Guns lost 36
Vehicles lost 18

Brewster 339D: 1 destroyed
Do 24K-2: 1 destroyed

30 Coastal gun shots fired in defense.
Japanese Ships
BB Haruna, Shell hits 2
BB Kongo
CL Jintsu, Shell hits 7

Allied Ships
CL Sumatra, Shell hits 1
It seems Sumatra was hit with DD gun

CA bombardment TF ruins Batavia. Only one ac destroyed on the ground but AF is now at 80 damage.

35th Bde along with Tk rtg disembarking at Kragen - still lot of troops in the main Dutch base. Reinforcements (2 big naval garnisons) should arive in next 3-4 days so should be enough for keeping the bridge-head in the Java until bulk of my army arrive - 10 days app.

I-158 found enemy transport fleet west of Tilitjap and torpedoed AK Memphis City (Torpedo hits 1, on fire, 27 casualties).

Lots of ASW action this turn, and this time i can be proud of it. Andy forget that i'm real master of ASW if the opponent give me a chance (like placing subs in shallow waters and "anchoring" them in one hex)

ASW attack near Kendari at 33,71

Japanese Ships
DD Arashi
DD Maikaze
PG Hakkaisan Maru
PC Shonon Maru #3

Allied Ships
SS O24, hits 1, on fire

Oh, yes i stated that South SD will take Macassar without supply - don't try it at home - i've got 0-1 odds today (900 Dutch tourists against 5700 elite japanese soldiers)!

PACIFIC

Japanese Ships
SS I-4

Allied Ships
AP Chaumont
AK Coast Farmer
AP Bloemfontrin

First sign of enemy conwoy in the Pacific - traveling towards Noumea (or from Noumea)

PHILIPPINES

This time everything worked perfectly - bombers attacked AF (btw in China i've got message Wuhan air mission canceled) and take a look at the result

Day Air attack on Manila , at 43,52

Japanese aircraft
C5M Babs x 6
Ki-21 Sally x 109
Ki-48 Lily x 46

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-21 Sally: 4 damaged

Allied ground losses:
700 casualties reported
Guns lost 5
Vehicles lost 1

Airbase hits 11
Airbase supply hits 5
Runway hits 46

And the last but not the least - play of the day:

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 01/26/42

Not evenful turn, but i'm very pleased that i can announce another big success of my Sally ASW forces in Manila waters: SS-28 and SS-39 are both hit with one 250kg bomb. Yeah!

35th bde, tank rtg and 3 NLFs easily take Kragen and Dutch naval force retreated. NLFs are ordered to reach Maedison and Soerbaya (the only way to get precise info of units there).

3 Dauntless attacked transport TF at Kragan and scored one hit on AP (she is not seriously damaged).

I'm still waiting for invasion of Koepang. The Dutch and Australian air force defending sky over the base but this can change in one moment - Andy can transfer planes from Australia there.

Small air raid from Kendari with 9 Zeros resulted with 3 Wirraways shoted down with no losses on our side.

Maumere will be captured tomorrow and only when i place naval search there i will conduct Timor invasion. KB and Mutsu TF are hiding in Sund sea and if Andy become hasty and greedy....

CHINA

Chinese unit arrives at Yunan and capture this important base. However, my paras are still in the base hex and i don't know if is Burma road still cut off. Anyway, it was very enjoyable to see enemy in the panic.... I'm still waiting at Kwelin for reinforcements.

Ground combat at Yunan

Allied Shock attack

Attacking force 2729 troops, 19 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 1118 troops, 17 guns, 0 vehicles

Allied assault odds: 8 to 1 (fort level 0)

Allied forces CAPTURE Yunan base !!!

Japanese ground losses:
5 casualties reported
Guns lost 1

Allied ground losses:
81 casualties reported
Guns lost 2

Several more Jap. destroyers are damaged and will be out of the action for some time. I'm very dissapointed with so many precious DDs lost so far, but at least did not lost any capital ship (especially CA!)

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 01/27/42

DEI

Dauntless (with escort) again attacked transports at Kragen. Oscars moved in the base and have to endure while base force (fast transport) arrives. One AP is hit and probably wont make to the safe port.

Maumere captured and Mavis chutai moved in - don't want to be suprised at Koepang or even Java!

CHINA & BURMA

The picture says it all.

Ground combat at Kweilin

Allied Shock attack

Attacking force 54986 troops, 482 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 178073 troops, 2198 guns, 35 vehicles

Allied assault odds: 0 to 1

Japanese ground losses:
130 casualties reported
Guns lost 8

Allied ground losses:
7985 casualties reported
Guns lost 134

Ground combat at Yunan - PARACHUTE RTG STILL HOLDS THEIR POSITIONS

Allied Shock attack

Attacking force 2590 troops, 15 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 1055 troops, 8 guns, 0 vehicles

Allied assault odds: 2 to 1

Allied ground losses:
42 casualties reported
Guns lost 1

PHILIPPINES

Usual bombardments and that stuff. But my ASW air force is murderous again! SS-27 and SS-28 attacked and hit with bomb. Andy should give up from rescuing fragments or he will lose entire submarine force.

Several enemy subs noticed in Malacca strait - more than 60 crack Betty/Nell pilots waiting for them in the Singapore. Two naval ASW TFs taking their positions on evacuating sea rute from Philippines. As you can see, expecting much from ASW in next few turns.

One Burma division will reinforce PI, the other one already moves towards Rangoon. Naval guard garnison (100 AP) will arrive in Lingayen in next few days so i will have more than 3000 AP in the near future at Manila.

Only one sub is hit today (K XV) - by Bettys set on ASW duty at Singapore. Anyway, i have to be patient - enemy still sending subs to the Manila. Two naval ASW TF are on their positions. AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 01/29/42

I'm pretty suprised that Andy is easy going with planes. Let me show you Air losses table for today:

Ok, i know that saving Dutch fighters are not so important, Dauntless either (allied pool is enormous), however it is really not my politic sacrificing crack dive bomber pilots from CV's for nothing. There are plenty of skilled pilots in american pool but not skilled as "original" crew... yes, i would like to know how many pilots he lost from CV groups due bombardment runs.... don't get me wrong i'm not complaining

Naval bombardment of Soerabaja, at 22,65

Allied aircraft
no flights

Allied aircraft losses
Do 24K-2: 1 destroyed
Hawk 75A: 1 destroyed
Brewster 339D: 1 destroyed
CW-21B Demon: 1 destroyed
F.K.51: 10 destroyed
Wirraway: 2 destroyed
SBD Dauntless: 1 destroyed

Japanese Ships
CA Maya
CA Ashigara
CA Chokai
BB Kirishima
BB Hiei
CL Kuma

Allied ground losses:
5930 casualties reported
Guns lost 41
Vehicles lost 4

Airbase hits 25
Airbase supply hits 15
Runway hits 188

Bombardment really works! Unforutnatly no hits on CL Sumatra in the port (i'm guess Andy did not move her yet).

------------------------------------

Almost had heart attack - Dutch sub attacked BB Hiei with 2 torps but they missed! I was lucky but i deserve luck after so many misfortunate in my previous games. This encounter turns into my victory...

Sub attack at 23,65

Japanese Ships
BB Hiei
DD Otori
DD Hokaze
DD Ariake
DD Yugumo

Allied Ships
SS O23, hits 2, on fire

Ground combat at Macassar

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 5761 troops, 61 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 1080 troops, 2 guns, 0 vehicles

Japanese assault odds: 0 to 1 (fort level 0)

Japanese ground losses:
13 casualties reported

Allied ground losses:
58 casualties reported

Phew! Even with supply SED can not overrun Dutch tourists....

SNLF easily deals with Dutch BF and AA at Lautem.

Invasion fleet with Baby KB cover approaching Koepang. Air strike from Kendari ordered on Koepang AF.

CHINA

I wanted to make some pressure in this theatre - City attack finally worked and Chinese now have 30 resources less....

A run for encircling/evacuating units at Wuchow continues - some of my divs already moved 30 miles!

Day Air attack on Chungking , at 43,32

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 27
Ki-21 Sally x 39
Ki-49 Helen x 21

Allied aircraft
I-153c x 3
I-16c x 9

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-21 Sally: 1 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
I-153c: 1 damaged
I-16c: 3 destroyed

Resources hits 22

All bombers bombing at 6000 feet

Naval guard suffers heavy casaulties in the battle at Nanning.

PHILIPPINES

Another heavy raid on Manila. Both AF (33 damage) and port were targets (4 damage). SS-28 sunk..

It is intersting that morale of my bomber crew aren't going down anymore - does it mean that enemy is run out of supply? (somewhere i read this theory)

Japanese aircraft
C5M Babs x 5
Ki-21 Sally x 89
Ki-48 Lily x 51

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-21 Sally: 4 damaged
Ki-48 Lily: 8 damaged

Allied Ships
SS S-28, Bomb hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
SS S-39, Bomb hits 1, heavy damage

Allied ground losses:
344 casualties reported
Guns lost 6

Airbase hits 5
Airbase supply hits 3
Runway hits 52
Port hits 5
Port supply hits 1

My ASW Sallys did not find their targets. But hey, i talked about ASW TFs. Here is the good start for my elite ASW TF:
-------------------------------------

ASW attack at 29,51

Japanese Ships
APD APD-39
APD APD-38
APD APD-37
APD APD-36
APD APD-35
APD APD-34
APD APD-33
APD APD-32
DD Yamagumo

Allied Ships
SS Gar, hits 2, on fire

Allied ground losses:
29 casualties reported

BURMA

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 01/30/42

SS Sargo was hit with 250kg bomb from the Sally's (Singapore area).

Enemy again attack my CVL Shoho TF near Java - all three escorting Wirraways are shot down. One of two Daunless is not back from mission.

I'm using Medan as training ground for my bombers until they will be assigned for Oil-go (capturing Palembang oil fields).

Day Air attack on Medan , at 20,45

Japanese aircraft
G3M Nell x 9
Ki-21 Sally x 84
Ki-49 Helen x 11

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-21 Sally: 1 damaged

Allied ground losses:
6 casualties reported

Airbase hits 1
Airbase supply hits 2
Runway hits 8

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pretty pathetic result of bombing Koepang AF - naval bombers aren't so effective against such targets. AF damage is light and i don't know what to do here- Andy keeps four PTs (the crack ones) at port and I afraid to send surface TF there. Also find enemy SC TF 6 hexes away and can't afford myself to send light TF there. Can not set Zeros from Kendari on naval atack either - CAP will deal with them. What to do?

I've withdrew Baby KB, transprot fleet and Yamashiro TF 5 hexes from the Koepang. We will see if Andy is going to move torpedo bombers in Koepang.

KB is SEE of the Timor, stil hiding.

Day Air attack on Koepang , at 28,77

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 9
G3M Nell x 28
G4M1 Betty x 27
Ki-46-II Dinah x 5

Allied aircraft

G3M Nell: 1 damaged
G4M1 Betty: 1 damaged

CW-22 Falcon: 1 destroyed

Allied ground losses:
14 casualties reported
Guns lost 1

Airbase hits 2
Airbase supply hits 4
Runway hits 29

PHILIPPINES

Bomber crews again did not lose their morale- enemy SS in Manila port is history i believe.... Some of Army bombers ordered to start attack on ground units. Naval guard unloading at Lingayen, Burma division will arrive within a week.

Day Air attack on Manila , at 43,52

Japanese aircraft
C5M Babs x 6
Ki-21 Sally x 109

---------------------------------------------------------------
Ground combat at Manila

Japanese Bombardment attack

Attacking force 47809 troops, 598 guns, 11 vehicles

Defending force 68115 troops, 632 guns, 181 vehicles

Allied ground losses:
121 casualties reported
Guns lost 5

BURMA

2nd Burma rifles bde retreats NE of the Mandalay.

I've started reconing India from Mandalay with Dinahs. 6 Hurries and 30 Aircobra on CAP duty over Calcutta or some other city in the area (forgot it...) I will keep continuing recon mission over India -I want to fool Andy about my next goal.

CHINA

he, he, my elite paras cant surrender so easy. I've got similar problems with surrounded chinese LCU before, and it is pleasing to see that can happens to the enemy too

Ground combat at Yunan

Allied Shock attack

Attacking force 2549 troops, 15 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 1065 troops, 7 guns, 0 vehicles

Allied assault odds: 4 to 1

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 01/31/42

Not a much to report enemy switch their defence to the notorious "Sir Robin". To be honest neither do I play very aggresive at the moment

The bigest news are:

British must withdraw BB and two DDs ()

SS Pike is hit by my air ASW force.

Paras at Yunan still holds

Tank rtg arrives on crossroad Wuchow-Kweilin-Kweiyang, together with one enemy LCU. 25 units reported one hex south, while 5 units arriving from the north. It should be interesting.

Here is operational plan for DEI. As you can see, i'm planing to finish job there by the end of the Feburary. Some of you may notice that I'm overcomit forces for Palembang but i will take all the measures I can to capture oilfields intact!

I want to announce my strategy for upcoming months (do some nice maps and that stuff) but every time when i update AAR i feel to tired for that. I'll promise, would to it in next few days...

Oh, yes, the Emperor is pretty disappointed with Philipine delay (i've promised that PI will fall before Feburary)

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 02/01/42

A hunt for enemy subs continues but my main weapon aren't naval ASW TFs (I have four of them right now in South Chinese Sea!). Suprisingly they did not even attack enemy subs, but Army bombers stationed in CF ensure that one more sub go to the bottom. Unfortunate SS Pike got 4 or 5 250 kg bombs and imediately sinks with commander. She was damaged yesterday and all my bombers concentrate on her. I would like to see more dispersing action, but it would be too greedy to complain about it, wouldn't be?

Koepang inv. TF under protection of Yamashiro TF and Baby KB will move into torpedo range tomorrow....

Quite unsuccessful naval bombardment of the Darwin. I suspect that outcome in this cases strongly depends on recon *only* for previous day. Mavis reconing Darwin for more than a week, but yesterday did not fly - and had several bad bombardment results before in similar situtaions.

Anyway, here is a combat report (i included it just to show Mutsu TF)

Night Time Surface Combat, near Darwin at 36,84

Japanese Ships
BB Nagato
BB Mutsu
BB Ise
BB Hyuga
DD Shinonome
DD Sagiri
DD Mikazuki
DD Yakaze
DD Asagao
DD Karukaya
DD Kasasagi

Allied Ships
TK Manatawny, Shell hits 38, Torpedo hits 2, and is sunk

Allied ground losses:
392 casualties reported
Guns lost 16

The nice thing here is that refugee from PI (or DEI?) wont transport fuel in Northern Australia area.

One of my DDs seriously damaged from Darwin CD guns (how i can forget to set do not escort?) but she will make it to the Kendari.

Does any of you guys knows fuel situation in N. Australia? Can the enemy have enough fuel in the area to supply his beasts?

Combined action (planes from Baby KB and Kendary) did not worked as i planed. His CAP is set on low attitude (to catch my Zeros on naval attack) so my samurai's on sweep did not shot any of his planes. However, Zeros on naval attack sunk one of his highly experienced (Andy told me that they are 80+) without losses on their side.

CHINA

Paras at Yunan still holding ther positions - even without supply they are invincible!

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 02/02/42

Sorry guys, another boring turn.

SRA

SED finally managed to capture Macassar. Naval ASW TFs again didn't attack enemy subs. Phew!

PHILIPPINES

ASW

SS Tarpoon is hit with two bombs and Dutch sub (class K) with one. SS-39 is sunk during heavy bombing of Manila (446 casaulties). Some of my bombers attacking ground targets:

Day Air attack on 1st PA Division, at 43,52

Ki-21 Sally x 12

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-21 Sally: 2 damaged

Allied ground losses:
11 casualties reported
Guns lost 2

---------------------------------------------
Day Air attack on 41st PA Division, at 43,52

Ki-21 Sally x 24

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-21 Sally: 5 damaged

Allied ground losses:
44 casualties reported

CHINA

He, he... paras still holding their positions and this time enemy have o-1 odds. Yunan is important base for my sneaky plan in the near future (gathering forces right now) and I need paras blocading Yunan as long as they can.

My divisions are slower than enemy and it is pretty clear now that i will not caught none of enemy divisions from Wuchow area.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 02/03/42

As you may noticed no combat report for today which means no action worth to be reported.

I'm busy with Oil-go, transporting units to Jambi and Palembang. This operation should be finished within 2 weeks. First (naval) bombardment scheduled for tomorrow.

In the Java, 2 naval guards and 35 bde will arrive next turn on the railroad to the Soerbaya and i hope i will be able for at least one attack on enemy units withdrawing to Soerbaja.

APD ASW TF found SS Sailfish but no depth charges are relased. Bombers from Manila were successful again: K VIII hit with 2 bombs, same as SS Sturgeon.

One more hit is scored on enemy sub (SS Trusty) but unfortunatly with Vals from KB. Andy is now warned and i detach Kaga and Akagi (modern CVs will withdraw towards Kendari) and send them in Koepang area - hoping Andy will think that I divide KB and send CV divisions in different theatres...

Andy is busy with licking his wounds (airforce) and regrouping his forces. He withdrawing cadres from all units available units (Java, PI) i think and moving them in India. There is nothing much i can do except attack India.

However, operation "kick out the Brits" are canceled - American troops are rebuilding fast and Andy moved (i'm pretty sure) all available air groups (including American ones) in India. Some of enemy CVs too, probably.

I'm continuing with recon of forward Indian bases and maybe i would sent nice 100-zero sweep ride against a base where my recon was faced with strong CAP (cca 20 Hurricanes and 20 P-39). I need some easy victories while i still have zero bonus. Furthermore, this will convinced him that i'm going for India (together with invasion on Amandan Islands and Akyab) but i need to bring one more base force and Air HQ in Mandalay (don't want fly from Rangoon - max range for my Zero and have "victory" with 10 or more ops losses). So it will take some time.

In the China, a mad run continues. Some of my divs will arrive in the crossroad hex (Kweilin-Wuchow-Kweiyang) but not expecting much there. This is only a divertion, same as my Paras at Yunan. I'm bringing in Bankok one para-capable SNLF and together with part of 2nd para rtg will try daring airborne on Kunmning (recon reporting 4000 men, 20 guns and one unit - i will pry that this is only chinese BF. Will this 55-60 AP be enough, i don't know, but it is worth to try it... (well if Allied fanboys lurking here i'm hoping that they wouldn't told Andy he need to pay attention on this weak point - Scottsman should be punished for that

I was considering to advance in Pacific - Noumea. But i realised that if i screw there i can surrender after that. My guess that India will be start point for the future Allied operations and that's why Andy sending cadres there. I'm sure that will also send couple of units via infamous "opposite Magellans route" (you know that s**t - teleporting units from the West Coast to Karachi with delay of 60 days). Oh, well... Pacific should be pretty open for my operations but WHAT IF Andy send all available American units (or at least majority of them) to Noumea?

In that case i would not be able to take Noumea and even evacuate LCU's - GAME OVER (yes, even 5 or 6 div are not a guarantee for successful finishing Noumea-go).

I'm not afraid of losing the match, in fact I'm already prepared for it (hey, doesn't sound like Yamamoto) but i want to have AAR in 1943. We have them only few here.

So, plans for Australia are re-open (i will latter attach screen). I'm decided to listen PzB and AmiralLaurent advices and hit the Perth:

1. although is Perth far away it is still attainable (?) and my forces can capture this place and back in SRA (the danger of Allied counteroffensive - somehow i know that Andy would not wait for 1944!) relativly quick.

2. i can gain there some strategic points

3. Northern Australia will be in great danger if I succed...

However, i'm not dissapointed this will attract Andy's attraction for a while. I'm anxious to start Divine strike-go (paradrop on Kunmning) but i will have only one opportunity so have to wait little more.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 02/08/42

Japanese Ships
DD Hatsukaze, Shell hits 1, on fire
DD Tomozuru, Shell hits 14, and is sunk

Allied Ships
DD John D. Edwards, Shell hits 1
DD Paul Jones, Shell hits 1
DD Parrott
DD Stewart
DD Le Triomphant
DD Banckert, Shell hits 1
DD Witte de With
DD Express

Now, the good news. Soerbaja was bombarded again and this time it was a good punch. Several planes lost on the ground, but the real prize were hits on O23 (sinks) and DD Van Nes (she is already lost despite she wasn't sink)

Allied aircraft losses
CW-21B Demon: 2 destroyed
Brewster 339D: 2 destroyed
Do 24K-2: 1 destroyed

BB Ise
BB Mutsu

Airbase hits 2
Airbase supply hits 1
Runway hits 55
Port hits 28
Port fuel hits 1
Port supply hits 5

More good news to come - I-9 puts three torps in AK Memphis City (bye, bye).

Palembang is hit from Singapore today - we are going to disable every single enemy in the base.

Batavia captured and several planes are destroyed on the ground. I'm glad for Coronado (one month production is lost so far) and Dauntless destroyed. Hopefully there is some pilots also killed in AF (they should be a crack crew from American CVs)

AIR LOSSES

Less than 10.000 resource and oil captured but production will run at full capacity from today.

NLF unloading over beach at Aru Island.

CHINA

A run in Southern China is over. I didn't succed to surround enemy troops from Wuchow area but anbandoned Wuchow is liberated. Resources are intact!

I almost triggered Divine strike-go, but decided to wait one more turn.

PHILIPPINES

SS-40 found again, hit with two bombs and sank. Sailfish is also hit with 250kg bomb and doubt that she will transport units again. I guess that this fun is over - no enemy subs in Manila waters and it would be really stupid move from my opponent to keep sending more and more fresh meat in Manila area (Japanese inteligence service also believed that lots of cadres from Manila are evacuated).

However, thanks Andy! - 8 subs are lost in Manila area (14 total - i have lost 7)

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 02/09/42

Very boring turn. There are only few things worth to be mentioned: Zeros from Baby KB shot down 7 enemy fighters at Darwin (no losses on our side) and victory in China:

Ground combat at 47,34 (hex south of Ichang)

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 49511 troops, 576 guns, 6 vehicles

Defending force 10293 troops, 50 guns, 0 vehicles

Japanese assault odds: 12 to 1

Japanese ground losses:
1146 casualties reported
Guns lost 16
Vehicles lost 1

Allied ground losses:
240 casualties reported
Guns lost 11

Andy have now two choices: either he will retreat from Ichang either he will be surounded.

Divine strike-go ordered for tomorrow and i'm ready to take quilty if operation will failed. One chinese LCU (partial) is in Kumning, not BF, according to recon pilots. But i have to try this. At least it will give some headache to the Scottman.

I'm afraid that my paras will be evaporated in the near future - there are two Chinese units in Yunan now...

a double update:

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 02/10/42

SS Sailfish sunk near San Jose (as I predicted).

Another raid on Chungking - two I-153 shot down, 12 resource hits. More than 100 transports carried our brave paratroopers on suicide mission. After the first battle i knew it I wouldn't be able to caputre Kumning. It was so close, so close....

Ground combat at Kunming

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 2156 troops, 26 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 2916 troops, 17 guns, 0 vehicles

Japanese assault odds: 2 to 1 (fort level 3)

Japanese Assault reduces fortifications to 1

Japanese ground losses:
75 casualties reported
Guns lost 2

Allied ground losses:
23 casualties reported
Guns lost 1

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 02/11/42

Palembang is under heavy bombardment from the air. It would take eternity to my units arrive at Palembang hex...grrr.

Manila is under heavy pressure from the air too. Yesterday all planes attacked assigned targets (AF and ground units) but today only bombers assigned to port and AF attack...strange.

In next few days i will have about 3500 AP - what to do? Shock or deliberate attack? Can shock attack be overbalance (?) in my favour or not? I would appreciate any input from you guys....

SRA

These Bettys are coming from Kendari. Enemy TF based at Derby. Andy didn't move it yesterday from Derby yesterday. What is he doing: fuel problem or another sneaky plan by this Scottsman?

Koepang is reinforcing with base force and construction units, supply is still at low level. I moved in one Zero daitai and LBA and limited them on 11 hex range. BB Yamashiro and Fuso protecting the base and reinforcements. Akagi and Kaga are few hexes east of Koepang, while Baby KB sails to Kendari (refueling)

Japanese aircraft
G4M1 Betty x 9

Japanese aircraft losses
G4M1 Betty: 1 destroyed, 1 damaged

Allied Ships
DD Paul Jones, Bomb hits 1, on fire
DD Banckert

Aircraft Attacking:
1 x G4M1 Betty bombing at 6000 feet
4 x G4M1 Betty bombing at 6000 feet
3 x G4M1 Betty bombing at 6000 feet

Troops unloading over beach at Medan - mix bde + eng rtg.

Bandoeng captured. Imperial guard division still traveling from Krangen to hex W of the base. 18th div starts to unload at Kragen. SED is unloaded and ordered to join our Java troops.

CHINA

Ground combat at Kunming

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 3250 troops, 24 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 3365 troops, 22 guns, 0 vehicles

Japanese assault odds: 1 to 1 (fort level 1)

Japanese Assault reduces fortifications to 0

Japanese ground losses:
310 casualties reported
Guns lost 4

Allied ground losses:
18 casualties reported
Guns lost 4

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 02/12/42

SRA

Enemy surface TF (at Derby) dissapeared. I've ordered naval/port attack on Derby (few ships reported in port.

Imperial Guards div arrived in hex north of Soerbaya and will attack Dutch units along with 35th bde, tk rtg and 2 naval garnison units (780 AP points).

Mutsu TF will bombard Soerbaya this night...

I have 3 Zero daitai at Mandalay and ordered a sweep over a base in India (Calcutta, Dacca?) - app 40 enemy figters reported on the CAP duty there (Hurricanes and P-39). Let's see what will happen here....

PHILIPPINES

Army bombers attacked usual targets - Manila AF and port, while part of them bombed 1st and 41PA division. I hope that tomorrow all my bombers will attack ground targets (I assigned all 300 bombers to ground attack) because a deliberate attack is scheduled for tomorrow on Manila. I have little less than 3500 AP and very anxsious to see tomorrow results. Honestly i have no idea what will happend here....

CHINA

Ground combat at Kunming

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 2813 troops, 20 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 3822 troops, 24 guns, 0 vehicles

Japanese assault odds: 0 to 1 (fort level 1)

Japanese ground losses:
137 casualties reported
Guns lost 4

Allied ground losses:
75 casualties reported
Guns lost 2

No suprise here, Andy continue with bringing reinforcements by air. Zeros on LR CAP over Kumning shot down few fighters and 3 transports but i was unable to cut Kumning. Divine strike-go is recalled. I need to save my paratroops and rebuild them.

Meanwhile, a massive attack on Chinese units south of Kweiyang. Pretty disappointing, assault strengh is down to 3100 points.

Ground combat at 42,37

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 208706 troops, 2428 guns, 247 vehicles

Defending force 147878 troops, 717 guns, 0 vehicles

Japanese assault odds: 1 to 1

Japanese ground losses:
7442 casualties reported
Guns lost 188
Vehicles lost 17

Allied ground losses:
977 casualties reported
Guns lost 57

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 02/13/42

A quite dissapoint results from night bombardment of Soerbaja (4 BBs): 6 Dutch ac, 321 casaulties. Hm, i'm gonna to check TF commander....

Troops finally disembark at Medan. Deliberate attack ordered for tomorrow.

Uh, i was suprised when I saw only one Daitai on sweep over Dacca. Of course, it was my mistake - did not set other 2 Daitais target for sweep. So here what i got:

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 24
Ki-46-II Dinah x 1

Allied aircraft
Hurricane II x 19
P-39D Airacobra x 15

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 3 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
Hurricane II: 9 destroyed, 1 damaged
P-39D Airacobra: 4 destroyed, 2 damaged

Not a bad result, after all. At least, daitais set on sweep but without target stood down so Andy don't know that they are there. I moved fatigued Daitai to Rangoon and replace it with fresh one and if Andy send his monsters (B-17) he will faced with 60 Zeros on CAP. I'm think I'm ready.

Anyway, I'm satisfy with Curry-go, diversion operation that will, hopefully, keep Andy in belief that I will go for India.

Air raid (11 LBA) on Derby did not achive any succes - one Nell is destroyed, no hit on anchored ship(s).

CHINA

85 Army bombers bombed Chungking resources - no significant fighter opposition and 8 resource hits are scored - 138 resources are damaged so far.

All is quiet on the ground at Kunmning, but skies over the base are not. Andy did not attack my paras which is good. As long as they are in the hex base no supply is produced.

He sent 7 SB-2c to bomb paras at Kumning. Zeros on LRCAP shot down 3 of them plus one I-16c and one Locheed 212. Enemy lost 24 planes while i lost 7 (4 zero 3 A2A) this turn

PHILIPPINES

hmph... i didn't got 2-1 odds and my army there have barely more than 3000 AP (from 3500). Heay bombing on 21st PA Division (118 casualties reported, guns lost 8), 45th PS Regimental Combat Team (46 casualties reported, guns lost 4), 81st PA Division did not help...

Disruption level is not so high but some of units have more than 50 and i ordered rest for them.

Ground combat at Manila

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 184310 troops, 1797 guns, 488 vehicles

Defending force 66865 troops, 589 guns, 160 vehicles

Japanese assault odds: 1 to 1 (fort level 0)

Japanese Assault reduces fortifications to 0

Japanese ground losses:
4168 casualties reported
Guns lost 135
Vehicles lost 16

Allied ground losses:
1769 casualties reported
Guns lost 58
Vehicles lost 2

PACIFIC

Well finally some action in this theatre . My subs are really dissapointment in this game. They don't dare to attack even conwoys like this one - it was ASW attack! Phew!

Japanese Ships
SS I-6

Allied Ships
AK Empire Summer
AK Empire Confidence
MSW Latrobe

Tomorrow i will post a map about my future plans in this theatre.

BURMA

Now i can understand why Andy run away with burmanese units from Mandalay towards Dacca (trail). Two Chinese units appears at Lashio and defeat my Tk rtg (which attacked first). Now i have to reinforce Mandalay with mix rtg from Rangoon.

33rd Div arrived at Bankok and sent to Rangoon.

Hmmm.... i caught myself that I'm thinking again about India invasion...puff!

Ground combat at Lashio

Allied Shock attack

Attacking force 3041 troops, 24 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 1710 troops, 0 guns, 118 vehicles

Allied assault odds: 4 to 1 (fort level 0)

Allied forces CAPTURE Lashio base !!!

Allied ground losses:
69 casualties reported

Defeated Japanese Units Retreating!

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 02/14/42

BURMA

Enemy reaction on the sweep over Dacca was quick, as I expected. Sneaky Scotsman withdraw fighters from Daca (so no CAP over base) but i wasn't so stupid to send another sweep over the base. Instead this i ordered CAP over Mandalay (90%) but only 45 of app 70 zeros fly over Mandalay sky.

They met Andy's monsters (LB-30 and B-17) and bloody encounter begins. Their base is Ledo and i guess he training them with supply mission to China.

I hit escape button after watching A2A combat for some time because almost every LB-30 shot down my Samurai(s). But hey, we all know that Allied pilots are liers! Anyway, this bloody encounter did not go bad for Andy. I've lost 11 Zeros this turn (7 A2A combat, 3 on the ground and one ops los - this one could be lost in China skies).

Bombing raid on Mandalay cost him 14 4E bombers (8 LB-30, 7 A2A, 1 ops and 6 B-17E; 3 A2A, 2 flak, 1 ops los).

Day Air attack on Mandalay , at 33,30

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 45

Allied aircraft
B-17E Fortress x 31
LB-30 Liberator x 48

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 9 destroyed, 10 damaged
Ki-46-II Dinah: 1 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
B-17E Fortress: 4 destroyed, 20 damaged
LB-30 Liberator: 7 destroyed, 20 damaged

Japanese ground losses:
16 casualties reported
Guns lost 1

Airbase hits 1
Airbase supply hits 3
Runway hits 4

Aircraft Attacking:
41 x LB-30 Liberator bombing at 6000 feet
9 x B-17E Fortress bombing at 6000 feet
15 x B-17E Fortress bombing at 6000 feet
3 x B-17E Fortress bombing at 6000 feet

Seven Samurai's are KIA in action. Unfortunatly all of them were veterans or even crack pilots:

F2 Tainan Daitai (leader Nakajima 74/81, overall exp 82) - 3 pilots died: W. Kasai (no more flying over Planica hill) 79exp, T. Yamamoto (the nephew of great Admiral) 89 exp and V. Nomura (76). The Daitai flew on 24K but they climb towards the bombers on 6K.

Daitai is awarded with 3 confirmed kills: crack pilots gained one exp point (both from 82 to 83) for one kill (Shibata and Nomura L.)

F2 Yamada Daitai (leader Sekiya 83/78, overall exp 76): lost one pilot (Kondo-67exp) and shot down 3 enemy planes. Pilots which gain exp are: Obura (from 74 to 77), Hamamoto (from 71 to 74). Hirano stays at 76. They all shot down one 4E each.

F2 Omura Daitai (leader Motomatsu 56/52, overall exp 59 - mix of crack and green pilots). 3 pilots KIA: Kanzuki (86), Hamano (62) and Aihara W (60). Daitai is awardered with 4 kills:

Matsuba get 4 exp point (61/65), D. Fujita (64/68), H. Matsuyama (62/66) and Nagashi (66/70) also get 4 exp point, all of them for one kill (this results match (?) with my previous experiments - posted in main forum)....

CHINA

Zeros on LR CAP over Kunmning shot down one SB-2c and damaged 4.

Still no withdraw from Ichang, but i need several days to encircle him...

Allies finally cleans Yunan hex. My paras withdrew one hex SE of the base.

PHILIPPINES

Air bombing on 2nd PA Division and 41st PA Division in Manila

PACIFIC

SRA

Medan captured. Only 5 oil are damaged. Defeated enemy retreats towards Kulla.

Japanese forces CAPTURE Medan base !!!

Japanese ground losses:

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 02/15/42

Palembang falls into my greedy hands - oil, my precious oil. Despite heavy bombardments from sea, land and air last two weeks i did not capture oil fields intact. Nevertheless i can consider Oil-go as a moderate success - 138 oil are damaged (568 is operational) and 89 resources are damaged (811 operational). I will post soon my war industry statistics.

I found something about 10K resources and 121K of oil. According to my calculation more that 240K oil and 50K resources should be produced during last two months. I doubt that Andy managed to take 40K resources nad 120 K oil (i sunk most of his TKs in the area)... oh well...

Defeated enemy engs withdraw south of Palembang - one NLF unit embarking at Palembang and will capture Teloemba... something to cut these troops and provide me a free training camp!

Ground combat at Palembang

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 94137 troops, 945 guns, 21 vehicles

Defending force 1740 troops, 9 guns, 0 vehicles

Japanese engineers reduce fortifications to 4

Japanese assault odds: 734 to 1 (fort level 4)

Japanese forces CAPTURE Palembang base !!!

Japanese ground losses:
70 casualties reported
Guns lost 2

Three Dutch garnisons holds against IMG division, 35 bde, Tk regiment and naval garnisons. The reason for that is i don't have support while he have (Dutch base forces)...

Ground combat at 22,64

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 44066 troops, 426 guns, 117 vehicles

Defending force 11805 troops, 107 guns, 4 vehicles

Japanese assault odds: 1 to 1

Japanese ground losses:
662 casualties reported
Guns lost 23

Allied ground losses:
540 casualties reported
Guns lost 29
Vehicles lost 2

Tjilitjap captured and Dutch CD surrenders.

Ground combat at Tjilitjap

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 6180 troops, 0 guns, 119 vehicles

Defending force 1023 troops, 3 guns, 0 vehicles

Japanese assault odds: 5 to 1 (fort level 2)

Japanese forces CAPTURE Tjilitjap base !!!

Allied ground losses:
1668 casualties reported
Guns lost 1

PACIFIC

Japanese forces CAPTURE Emirau Island base

BURMA

As you can see on picture i will have to deal with Chinese divisons in area. Can't allow them to re-open Burma road. I suspect that Andy will start air raids on Mandalay but did not move Zeros in Mandalay. I have to admit that i'm very very careful with my Samurai's.

(Title means : Sneaky Scotman evacuation route )

Under the impression of General Hoepner's AAR's i checked my oil and resource status in Home islands. And what i can see... no more than 30-40K resources in any base, several bases are low at resources?! Oil is in the much better situation... Created some emergency conwoys (from China) before my "regular" shipment from SRA arrives in HI. Wierd, pretty wierd. I have more than 18.000 resources in total, but today my stocks shrinks from 1 622 000 to 1 594... hm, have to keep an eye on production....

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 02/16 AND 02/17/42

Not a much to report for 16th February. Dutch sub (K VII, I think) is hit twice on eastern Sumatra coast by Sally and Alf.

Andy moves bombers in Bankha and i thought that he will use them against my ships there. I sent Haruna and Kongo on bombardment run, covered vith fighers TFs in area, but these planes were on transfer from India to Australia, I guess. Today they are reported at Barj something (base east of Balikpapan, on SW Borneo). Anyway, ordered Fuso and Yamashiro TF to bombard this place, just in a case.

Now take a look what this Scotman the Sneak doing! Transfer route from Cayagan to Australia via Mortoai with one or two Catalina on transport duty, i guess, but it isn't really matter...

K VIII sinks (SW of Amboina).

CHINA

Air raid on Kweiyang with 43 Sallys. They destroyed 4 Chinese "forts" (IL-4c) on the ground.

Raid on Chungking wasnt so successful. 60+ Army bombers scored just two resource hits.

2 SB-2c's shot down over Kumning.

BURMA

Enemy sweeping Mandalay base (they are set on high attitude, of course) over last two days. The Emperor told me that we can't allow such arrogantly behaviour from American mercenaries, so i visited Mandalay again. AVG/B pay it dearly . Didn't withdraw Zeros from the Mandalay this time.

Day Air attack on Mandalay , at 33,30

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 69

Allied aircraft
P-40B Tomahawk x 21

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 4 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
P-40B Tomahawk: 18 destroyed

Allies lost 20 ac in A2A while i lost 7 (4 zeros). But lots of LR CAP mission cost me several fighters. Total losses this turn are 25 Allied for 15 Japanese planes.

Enemy withdrawing from Ichang.

PHILIPPINES

I'm pissed, just slighty pissed off. Bombers on AF strike fly regulary while those on ground attack didn't attack. And this is not a first time. What annoys me most is that this happends when i order my LCU to attack enemy at the Manila. Phew!

Ground combat at Manila

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 180793 troops, 1663 guns, 467 vehicles

Defending force 63036 troops, 490 guns, 157 vehicles

Japanese assault odds: 0 to 1 (fort level 0)

Japanese ground losses:
3416 casualties reported
Guns lost 51
Vehicles lost 17

Allied ground losses:
2089 casualties reported
Guns lost 72
Vehicles lost 1

Back to 0-1. Disruption is 70+ and I'm again under 3000 AP. Only good thing here is that i suffered 1.600 casaulties less than in previous attack, while allied losses going up.

Resources have been a great problem for me in my game with MC ( not now as long as most of my industries have been already shut down). It seems that there's a leak somewhere in the resources stocks...but i've never understood where....
For the whole 42 i had to make some extra shipments of resources from Korea and China to be able to fullfill the requests of the homeland, being SRA-and DEI never enough

Manpower points eats ressources (5 per day) and there are more than 800 manpower centers in Japan, so you need in Japan 4000 ressources more than oil each day.

Also the total shown by the games are only the ressources, oils, supplies and fuel in your bases. To know you real stock you should add what is aboard your ships. In your case the drop of 28 000 is probably due to ships loading ressources in Chinese ports.
