strange land combat result

I had something really strange happen in a PBEM game of mine. I'm not sure if it was on purpose or an accident, but my opponent has put an unusual delay force outside a city.

the strange thing is that his unit doesn't even show up on the LCU display! its just my units attacking a blank screen. yet on the map, it shows a single unit.

below is the last combat result, which at this rate will take months to kill this unit!

has anyone seen this before?



Ground combat at 12,25

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 86410 troops, 800 guns, 26 vehicles

Defending force 3580 troops, 0 guns, 0 vehicles

Japanese assault odds: 44 to 1



Allied ground losses:
54 casualties reported

I suspect you are attacking a "ghost" unit, or a unit that got "lost" (disappeared) during transport. Ghost-like remnants stick around for quite a while sometimes, although i've never seen anyone attacking one.

No, they are no ghosts, Scobidoo. You are attacking a HQ unit (fly a recon to the base to have its name) and these are never displayed on the ground combat screen.

You are also facing an unit that has no retreat path and that is outside a city... It may take days or weeks before it surrenders in the last versions of WITP. Even if at 44 to 1 it will probably surrender in some days.

ahhh that explains it! my opponent just emailed me back that it was indeed an HQ unit as AmiralLaurent mentioned.
