The only known restored to WW2 condition LST is at Evansville Indiana.
There is a German Schellboote on the Main river next to the Freidensbrucke in Frankfurt am Main.
There is a Brit Cruiser on the Thames in London.

USCGC TANEY (WPG-37) is located in New York I think. TANEY was at Pearl Harbor on 7 Dec 1941. Sister ship USCGC INGHAM is a museum somewhere or other. USCGCs
BIBB and DUANE (also sisters) are vets of the N. Atlantic convoys (as are INGHAM and TANEY) and are popular dive sites West of Key West, FL. All of those ships served well into the 80s. USCGC DUANE carried gold hull numbers because it was the oldest ship in commission other than USS Constitution and USS Arizona (which have special commissions requiring no actual service).

In Japan is the Battleship Mikasa, which was Togo's flagship in the Russo-Japanese War.

In the US, the battleships Texas, Alabama, Massachusetts, Missouri, and New Jersey are all memorials.

Even though it isn't a memorial, the C class Cruiser HMS Caroline is used as an RNVR ship. She is the last surviving ship that participated at the battle of Jutland. Once she is retired from teh RNVR (which she has been active since 1924), she is to be moored next to HMS Warrior.

There's a WWII submarine docked in Cleveland, Ohio. I lived there for over 5 years but damned if I can think of her name right now.

The WWII USS Batfish is in Muskogee, Oklahoma, about 30 or so miles from where I go to school. She is pretty much on dry land, she isn't floating. All parts of her are accessible except the conningtower. The museum also has some 20mm Oerlikons, 40mm Bofors, 5in/25s, and Mk 14 Torpedoes as displays.

Don't forget the U-505 in Washington (for you German guys).

Several Fletcher class destroyers hanging around. I don't know of any heavy or light cruisers that survived the war. USS Lexington is in Corpus Christi.

I don't know of any WW2 warships that are derelict and still around, would be cool to see them.

As far as I know the U-505 is in Chicago at the Museum of Science & Industry. As far as other WW2 ships go:

USS Intrepid (CV-11) New York City
USS New Jersey (BB-62) Camden, NJ
USS Massachusetts (BB-59) Fall River, MA
USS North Carolina (BB-55) Wilmington, NC
USS Lexington (CV-16) Corpus Christi, TX
USS Midway (CV-41) San Diego, CA
USS Hornet (CV-12) San Franciso Bay, CA
USS Yorktown (CV-10) Charleston, SC
USS Texas (BB-35) San Jacinto, TX
USS Alabama (BB-60) Mobile, AL
USS Wisconsin (BB-64) Norfolk, VA
USS Iowa (BB-61) Newport?, RI
USCGC Taney (W-37) Baltimore, MD
USS Slater (DE-766) Albany, NY
USS Salem (CA-139) Quincy, MA

There are others that I cannot remember at the moment, including a slew of subs.

Rick

P.S. As far as derelict ships go, James River near Newport News, VA has a great number of the old WW2 ships.

It also seems the Heavy Cruiser Des Moines (CA-134) has been stricken, and is currently on hold by the US Navy pending donation as a museum ship.

Well, my Dad's ship (USS Brookings, APA-140) apparently was sunk and then salvaged i think not to long ago. I couldn't find out what happened to it after the salvage, though. If it is not razor blades by now, i would guess it would be a derelict.

Justin's list forgot one very important Battleship: the USS North Carolina. The Showboat is a museum in Wilmington, NC.

There is also an american fleet sub from WW2 at Fisherman's Wharf, San Francisco, and another in Portland, OR. This is by no means a complete list, but we're working on it!!!

BTW, there is a group in Portland that is rebuilding a US WW2 PT boat. It isn't ready yet for display, but I can't wait until it is...

taney is in baltimore harbor. the tug hoga, which helped put out fires on arizona and was later an oakland california fireboat, is moving to arkansas. arizona is not in commission but constitution still is. BB texas, a ww1 dreadnought, fought in ww2 and is in galveston, texas. BB north carrolina is in north carloina. CV yorktown is in charleston, CV intrepid is in new york. many of the DDS, like caisson young in boston next to constitution, are post ww2 modernized to some extend, some more than others. same withh the BB iowas, missouri at pearl harbor, wisconsing at hampton roads maritime museum, new jersey i think in philadelphia, and iowa i think still in washington state.

hmcs sackville, a canadian flower class corvette, is in halifax and hmcs haida, a tribal class DD is in toronto

best bet find the september 2002 copy of sea classics magazine, which i have in front of me. it has the 2002 guide to NORTH AMERICA's naval/maritime museums

BTW: in Baltimore they have a Liberty Ship which they use for WW2 themed cruises... It may be mentioned in that magazine of which Wayne speaks (I have a copy around here somewhere), but I'm sure that you'll find ads for it in just about any WW2 history magazine...

There is a working Liberty ship at San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf. (Jeremiah O'Brien, I think.)

And it is the Hornet moored at Alameda.
