Quite a bit of activity today.
The highlights are: Inchang falls to Japanese forces, with the defenders withdrawing, in good order, towards Chungking.
Singapore resists enemy attacks.
A Battleship TF appears in the Coral Sea, near Rabaul. It is attacked by LBA from Rabaul, without much success.
Enemy Betties attack and torpedo CL Dragon, on the E coast of Borneo.

Note: For ease of description N is assumed to be the top of the screen; this is of course often not north, but it makes for easier reporting

IJN forces operating near the Solomons are conducting anti-air training in route to there mission objective. Once operation are complete in the Solomons they will join other IJN forces for the next phase in the liberation of the Pacific.

The IJA reports that resistance in and around Singapore should be crushed within the next few days, as well as the defenders of Bataan. The march for Chungking is ahead of schedule which pleases General Tojo.

Amerrica naval forces in the South Pacific have fled to safer waters. Just in time.

Japan bombards Singkawang. For some reason they did not like the bombers there scratching the paint on their ships. (Not that they hit anything)
Also their Battlewagons bombarded Rabaul. A prelude to an invasion if you ask me.
At this time, Japan can do anything it mighty well pleases, and there is precious little the allies can do aboput it.
Allied forces can snipe, and occassionally get lucky, but for at least 6 months, whatever Halsey-san wants, Halsey-san gets.

BBC world service. Here is the news>
A dispatch from #10 Downing street regrets to inform the public that Singapore, also known as the Gibraltar of the orient has today surrendered to Japanese forces.
As of this time there are no effective British or Dominion forces in Malaya.
The enemy forces are now expected to attack, either north into Burma, perhaps seeking the oil from Rangoon and Mytkivina or south east into the Dutch East Indies, on which they have already established bases.
The United Kingdom and her allies remain firm and comitted to the defense of freedom and decency.

With Darwin exposed to enemy air attack, the allied naval forces need to withdraw further south. The Banda Sea and Ceram sea are now an uncontested Japanese lake.

Halsey-san made an early invasion of Amboina. He rapidly established a Betty base there, knowing that Darwin would be the natural refuge of shipping fleeing the PIs and Malaya. Darwin is not at this time an effective base due to this, and until heavy fighter forces are available for deployment here, the allies must concede the BAnda and Timor seas.
His occupation of Canton Island has done likewise in the East side of the Pacific. I do not know if he has Betties there (I don't think they are there yet) but allied shipping now needs to be routed way East through the Society islands before it can get to Oz.
Palmyra has now been reinforced, and is, I believe safe from attack.
Noumea has also received infantry, and fighter reinforcements, and is also amply supplied. Additional TFs with more fuel, supplies and, mor importantly base forces are expected any day now.

So much for this attempt to rescue the troops at Rabaul.
What hurts the most is the loss of the APs, which will be sorely needed later on
