Well think of this one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The brief text for a pic to do with Milne Bay acctack by the japanese:

"PAPUA, NEW GUINEA. 1942-09-07. BULLET PROOF VEST CAPTURED FROM THE JAPANESE AT MILNE BAY. MADE OF CLOTH, IT HAS SIX SHEETS OF BULLET PROOF STEEL COVERING THE FRONT, THE SHEETS BEING LET INTO THE POCKETS, THREE ON EITHER SIDE. THIS JACKET HAD BEEN HIT BY A TOMMY GUN BULLET; THE PLATE HIT HAD ONLY BEEN DENTED AND THE SLUG HAD FALLEN INTO THE BOTTOM OF THE LINING. A CURIOUS POINT IS THAT THE MAKERS TAG BORE BRITISH AND AMERICAN PATENT NUMBERS. IT HAS BEEN SUGGESTED THAT IT WAS A CIVILIAN ARTICLE - A RELIC OF CHICAGO DAYS. "

Thanks to our Allies?

If you don't know this was an a Japanese amphibious landing that had been resisted and repelled.
Troops:
Aust
7th Australian Infantry Brigade (a Militia Brigade)
18th Brigade, defenders of Tobruk
1300 US airfield construction engineers
AND the RAAF.

Japanese:
2,000 marines and some light tanks
plus naval gun support

Interesting post TDR!

It reminds me that the Italians during WWI tried such experience.
They designed some "medieval" armour in order to provide protection to the soldiers during the assault.
The most famous was the "Corazza Farina" from the name of its designer.
Some cool pics here.

Also the Russian in WWII equipped their soldier with armour plates, especially in urban fighting.
