ORIGINAL: Skyros The pictures Oh, those. One night a few years back Russ asked me to booze around with him in the Twin Cities. Well, early the next morning we found ourselves in this seedy alley down by the river near St. Paul. Russ lay crumpled three sheets to the wind against an ashcan, He looked like an old rag doll. I was just beginning to get my own bearings when this old man appeared and asked for change. "What's in it for me?" I asked. "Salvation!" he replied, "And all the women I've ever known in my life." With that, from underneath his dirty coat the man produced an envelope. He put that in my hand and said, "Treat these ladies with respect and you'll never know the street." Nodding in semi-stupor, I gave him what was left in my purse and the geezer hobbled away. Inside that envelope I found the pictures I share with you today. I never saw the old man again, but at one time he must have been someone to stand clear of. As for Russ, I left him collapsed in the alley. Last I heard he'd shoved off on some leaky ore freighter out of Duluth. Me, I married into money, started my own software company, and God willing and the creek don't rise we're fixing to hit it big this Christmas.
