What's up with this?

Hong Kong level 9 fort to level 0 in one turn? At a cost of 89?

Never seen that before?!

Ground combat at Hong Kong

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 33485 troops, 329 guns, 17 vehicles

Defending force 12206 troops, 102 guns, 4 vehicles

Japanese assault odds: 9 to 1 (fort level 9)

Japanese Assault reduces fortifications to 0

Japanese ground losses:
89 casualties reported
Guns lost 1

Allied ground losses:

You play vs Darth Vader of Land Combat.

Mogami is one of them evil Sith Lords who can get 56:1 using Tibetan Monk Regiment vs any base on the map.

I guess this guy bombed HK, destroying supply: unsupplied units fight with 1/2 efficiency. Then he assigned China command to HK, all units prepped for HK too and that's it. Him getting say 6:1 in this battle would not change a thing, BTW. He'd reduce 6 fort levels today, and the rest of it tomorrow, capturing the base and destroying all units there - which is exactly what he will do here too (only won't have any forts to fight against tomoroow).

O.

Hi, OK Oleg you know thats not true. If I was a Darth Vader how did Tom hold Manila till late April against 400,000 Japanese? The only Darth Vader like attribute I have is I will bring how ever many troops are required if I can get them there.

I'm not sure being new to the game but has not land combat always reduced fort levels equal to combat odds?

The troop totals mean little because 50,000 infantry have a much higher combat value when compared to 200,000 HQ and support troops.

(The combat report posted is not from one of my games)

Shock attacks reduce fort levels equal to the odds ratio.

That's so? Equal to the odds ratio?

I have not run into this. I have many times attacked a base with odds of 3-1 4-1 etc and never seen the fortification level drop at all. I do not use shock attacks tho will that make a difference.

Hi, Non shock attacks reduce fort levels equal to number of combat engineer units involved up to odds ratios.

See rule section 8.4 (manual page 152 - about halfway down the page):

If no units are using a Deliberate Attack (i.e. all attacking are using Shock Attack or Bombardment Attack), than the Fortification Level will be
reduced by 1 for each odds level (i.e. 4 to 1 odds would reduce the Fortification Level by 4). Also, combat engineers participating in attacks against bases can reduce fortifications by up to one level per day, making it easier to take the base.
