Thread #703 with this title I'm sure. Anyways, let's see if I understand it. I'm about to jump into a Scenario vs an Allied AI. I've read the section in the manual a few times, tutorials at spooky's, and downloaded AdmiralLaurent's spreadsheets.

My understanding is at the start of the war, you have about six months to capture resources before Japan runs out of them. Oil is the primary concern, resources and manpower are secondary compared to oil and the NEI happens to have a nice supply available. After the economy runs out you will need to ship resources and oil from the captured areas to sustain industry in Japan, Formosa (and China?). You can tinker with aircraft production with the associated industry screens and speed up ship production in the ship availability screen once your shipyards accumulate enough points. All this I feel I understand well enough.

I feel unsure on how manpower and heavy industry points regenerate after they are spent. Do you simply ship resources and oil to the hex and the computer determines how much is used when you want to spend heavy industry or manpower points? Or do manpower and heavy industry centers generate a certain amount of points every so often? Do I need to ship resources to specific hexes (example: will resources shipped to Osaka be usable by industries in Tokyo? I assume they are as long as you can trace a short enough overland path?) How much do I have to worry about keeping the small amount of heavy industry and armanents factories in China supplied with oil and resources? How big a threat is the Allies bombing resources that I capture? Can I slow down ship production, or just speed it up and how?

thanks,
vertical

Pretty much all you need to do is dump off oil and resources in the vicinity of your HI. The rail net will move it around to where it is needed, mostly. There is a limit to how far it will move, but in practice this limit has little if any effect on what you need to do. Pick a big port--Sasebo is convenient--and unload your resource/oil convoys there. You will also need to take some oil to Formosa, some oil to a port in China, and some oil to SE Asia--Saigon is good. How much oil? Take 20-30,000 the first time, and then keep an eye on it. It will migrate to your HI centers. When they start to get low on oil, dump off more. Shouldn't really take much attention once you get going.

Yes, each one generates points every day, assuming they have oil and resources. HI creates HI points, supply and fuel, one of each (or is it 1.25 supply? I can never remember)

Already answered. Resources and oil move along the rail net, and can cross one all-sea hexside that has a level 3+ port on each side.

Already answered; not very much. Just check it every now and then. You need to have at least as many resource points and 2X as many oil points in the hex as there are HI factories in order to make them run. Read 13.2.2 for more details.

It is a huge threat. Any decent allied player will bomb your oil centers to rubble in short order if you let him. Before you collect your prizes you first need to eliminate the allied air threats in the vicinity. Don't even think of taking Palembang for example before you have neutralized Singapore, Kuching, and Batavia. Also always include aviation support units with your invasions. This will not only allow you to base aircraft there immediately after you take the place, they also provide much-needed support squads to your combat units.

Search for a thread called "Acclerated Ship". Yes, it is mispelled. It is in either the main forum or in the War Room.

edit: never mind, I bumped it, it is in the main WitP forum somewhere near the top

Good thread, thanks for the bump.

And I remember when I thought Falcon 4 was complex.

Just to clarify one point from irrelevant's excellent post:-
Heavy industrial produces HI points daily(by expending oil and resources) and accumulates them in a pool. These HI points are then used by aircraft factories/engine factories/shipyards etc. A surplus of points is essential - you need save them up for those dark days in '44/45 when resources become scare - to enable production to continue.

I seem to remember that a patch changed this to 1x oil points in the hex. Can anyone confirm this?

Vertical, I made a spreadsheet to track oil and resource use. It's on Spooky's web site.

Mike, do you have this excel sheet also for version 4 of the map and scen 155? If not I think I'll use this as a start and adopt it myself. Nice piece of work btw, thx :)

Thanks. Sorry, but I haven't upgraded to version 4. I have 2 PBEMs going and would have to start over if I changed map versions. I suspect you could check everything in under an hour. If I remember correctly, there's no more than a handful of base changes.
