The newbie here being me. :)

Since this is probably the biggest WitP community, I'm dropping a quick line about an informal project I'm starting at Strategy Zone Online.

I really want to get into this game and have had it for months, but it intimidates me. So I'm starting a community game wherein I play turn by turn against the AI as the Allies and pretty much do whatever you tell me to--whether specific commands or strategic advice. Since this is my very first game (I've gone through the first three turnsbefore just playing the area around Pearl Harbour), I'm going to suck and lose without help. I thought it might be a good way for me to learn and you guys to have some fun and work together.

At the start of each turn, I'm going to post a save file, which anyone can download and look over. The Dec 8 file is up already. I am playing as the Allies with +/-15 day variable and all else default.

I like this idea! I've started over countless games so far becuase I realized I'd made some mistake that I shouldn't have and don't have a "save" from a week ago.

*edit* I can't find it, and there is no search function at Strategy Zone Online that I could find. Linky please?

Hey Mensch, long time no see. I switched completely to WitP almost 3 months ago.
This is an interesting idea, but when it’s all said and done, there’s room for only one captain on the bridge. In any event I won’t be offering any advice for some time as my feet are still wet-and getting more wet as I speak. I could teach you how to achieve eyebrow defilade in the waves if you’re interested.
The AI has the typical AI problems. You could likely hold your own in a short time. To truly see the error of your ways and to learn about naval operations, you need to play against a veteran player-one who will give you tips after each slap.
Good luck with the game-it is a whole new world, and in far greater detail.

Hey Maestro! No, don't worry about it. Your advice has to be better than leaving me to my own devices. Anyone is welcome to contribute...even if you know less than I do.

I'm working through the first turn and have some advice already. I count on screwing up quite a lot over the first part of the game. Hopefully after a while I can take it to the enemy. There's just so much to do and look at. Since I'm not familiar with all the deployments, I have to check all the bases to see what's available and then consider where it might be put to use.

I'll try to drop in to this thread too, so if you want to post advice here, that's cool. But I'll list the file at SZO.

I can offer some sound advice; approach this as you would approach a "huge" TOAW scenario which you knew absolutely nothing about. The first thing you must do is look over and organize your thousands of units to be able to accomplish your envisioned operations. This means hours of work before you even start the game (get a notebook), but will make a huge difference in not only in the success of your operations, but in keeping the turn length reasonbly short. Know where you are going before you start. Also, there is a great library of AAR's here at your disposal.
I'm using the "crawl, walk, run" method in mastering this thing. Small scenarios first. There are dozens of excellent downloads available to help keep track of and understand different parts of the game. Actual experience with a good mentor is the key.
I'll take a look at your SZO thread from time to time. Good luck!

are there any other WitP communities out there? I thought this was the only one?

Only WitP community I know of. Guess that's why I called it the biggest.

New turn up. My siggy has the link to my webspace where I'm uploading the new turns.

Here's the link to the SZO thread: http://www.strategyzoneonline.com/forums/showthread.php?p=482707#post482707

WitP Wiki. Not sure if it qualifies as a community, and activity is horribly poor, so I assume no one is really interested ;-)
