Everytime I get into the game I find a feature that makes it impossible to go on. This time my money disappears. I have 464 gold, taxes are 1059 next turn, total for next turn is -33, being plus 464 I should be OK. But.....next turn my money is gone, 5 are left, my taxes are 25, not 1059, and my netincome is -1074. I dont know if I should be angry or if I should cry, please HELP!!!!!!

Playing latest version as France 1792

I believe I know the reason for losing the taxes, an English-hostile army is in Paris, cauing me to lose all income, they are not sieging only standing there. Should this be the desired effect? Bad rule if that is the case, if not then a bug.

Enemy forces whether they be an army, corps or ne measly division, including cossacks and guerilla's, perched in one of your territory's negates your production for that turn. It is not a bad rule. You have to defend your capital. Enemy forces in your capital will also plummet your national morale as well. Low national morale and an empty bank account sre not good for your country. If you can't defeat the army then offer a limited surrender. Get out of the war before it detroys your country. You will probably only lose one province.

I have played the 1792 scenario regulary as France and I keep my bank roll at $2000. If you are new then read Raleigh's guides as they are great guides for beginners. Then adapt his ideas as you gain more experince.

Personally I increase taxes to 24-25. I lower fuedal dues to 0. I move my merchant ships to good sea areas (large ports and no other merchants or privateers if possible), I put my privateers out to steal from others, I develop courts and culture ( to combat waste) and banks to increase money. Produce large amounts of food to help your population grow and to sell to other countries. I put the trade advisor on and forget about it. I make my draft age range 20-35 to increase morale. I steadily increase draft size. I keep military readiness at 100, and no less than 80 if I want to save some money. Utilize a minimum of depots. I usually stick a depot betwen several armies. As you play and learn the game you will get a feel for what you need to do to conserve your money or prevent loss. The forumns are full of helpful advice from those of us who have learned our lessons and passed them on to others.

Make no mistake. THe game works, the system works. But it is not easy or even initally intuitive. Even for veteran gamers. That is why it is such a popular game right now because it IS challenging. Don't give up, ask questions and read old topics. The designers have fully supported the game. They have helped us learn rules and mechanics. We have helped them fix bugs or make enhancements.

Hope you enjoy playing. Hope this little bit of advice helps too.

Don't forget weather! A series of bad snowstorms in your provinces can seriously mess up your economy too, and can cause the sort of drop offs you are describing.

I think its a great game, but sometimes the game is wrong. example of this is the waste rule in 1.0, it just didnt work, now its fine. I dont mind losing income when there is an army in Paris, however if this was or real the government would leave the capital and amanage from somewhere else. It was a two division army that took away all income. I just think its a little over the top.

Have you updated to the latest patch (1.2.18) from the members area? If you are playing an old version, you are probably experiencing problems that have already been brought up and fixed.
