I'm considering to which theatre to send a BG of A-20Bs. At which missions did you find this plane best utilized?

Due to it's range, you need to look where it will actually have the ability to reach a target.

A-20's make great fodder. There's alot of them, they are well protected....nothing flashy but can give your opponent sleepless nights.

All joking aside, they don't have a massive range - 6 hex's in game, so you can't really use them that offensively in the South Pac due to their range. I tend to use them for ASW or naval attack against invasions forces on smaller airfields were its not possible to base heavies. I presently have several units of boston/havocs based around Noumea

Serves me right for trying to be breaf...

My dillema is: ground attack in a theater like SEAC, or naval attack in Pacific.

Eg. After seeing Martins perfomance against transports, i would never use them for anything else.

Martins are ok in the begining but Hudsons and B25 Mitchels are better, the dutch will upgrade to them later in the game.

If you you PDU's you can change them to another type.

Bostons I use mainly got ASW, B25's and Maruders (Widow makers) for naval attack.

If you can get the A-20s to Burma or China, they're more useful there (range constraints otherwise). Be advised that the A-20s attack with 250# bombs (like Martins and Hudsons), so they're less useful on NavAtk. But you use what you've got. B-26 and B-25 are much better on NavAtk, because they use 500# bombs.

I really like the Martins and Hudsons, simply for their range. Payload is light, but range is great. BlenIV is the same thing as a Hudson (in game, not litterally), except that it carries 2x 500# bombs, instead of the 4x 250# bombs of the Hudsons.

If you're short on B-26 and B-25 (and you will be), the A-20s can be used in SoPac as "deterrents". You're not really going to be able to run out and bomb another base with the A-20s (range sucks). But if you pair them with even P-39s, the P-39s will escort and your A-20s will launch (vs. shipping). But again, the A-20s use 250# bombs, so they're not going to be much use vs. any but destroyers and transports. And if you -do- have destroyers and transports within range of A-20s, you've probably got serious problems anyways. But, you use what you've got. Also be advised that the A-20s can't make the jump from Noumea to Brisbane, even if you hold Norfolk Island (I think).

A-20s like all attack aircraft are supposed to be used for ground attack. Use them anywhere you can to soften up Inf before an attack. They're great island hoping in the Solomons, DEI or PI.

They are also not bad in an anti-shipping role, though limited range means that they have to be well placed.

In one of my early games against the AI, I seem to recall using them to great effectiveness defending Rabaul from an inbound invasion force. The AI didn't have any capital ships in the area, so they attacked the transports and laid waste to them. then later they were moved to PM where they harrased his cargo ships heading for Lae.

Historically, these planes did quite well in a close ground support role bombing or even strafing the enemy. Anyone ever try to set an A-20 to strafe?

They suck at ASW for some reason.

I'm not positive, but I recall that the range for ASW is 1/2 your normal range. Which for the A-20 would make it only 2. That's probably why they're not doing so well on ASW (few subs for them to find).

Might want to double check this, but I believe the A-20's carry 500lb bombs.
This gives them a little more kick than some of the available bombers early on in the DEI.

Don't put A20's on ASW .. much better on naval search 6k 100% max range .. lot more useful anti sub then .. small units i put on palmyra and johnson for just that reason .. after training them up obviously ( i.e suppy transport till 70+ exp)

I waited for the G version in early 43, strafing with those nose mounted .50 cals did the job on NavAtt at 100'
