A Dutch submarine detected as far afield as Wake! Too bad my new Q-Ship didn't work as advertised.

Well a few days have gone by and it is still very quiet with just some ASW combat. The storm must break soon.

Hey, that's my high school yearbook photo! Where'd you get that?

Erhem... Soerabaja saw another round of combat tonight between IJN cruisers and destroyers and enemy torpedo boats. Those Dutch torpedo boats are notoriously slippery, and almost immune to heavy gunnery. Only one of the enemy vessels was seriously damaged in tonight's action.

Bill's ASW boys are getting worrying good at their job: today, they all but sunk two of my subs at opposite ends of the map. Elsewhere, Chinese troops are approaching Port Arthur.

The game isn't dead, but we've decided to cut back on posts here, avoiding "nothing to report" type posts.

Anyhoo, Imperial forces landed at Tarakan in eastern Borneo today. We are expecting a major US counteroffensive in the Central Pacific soon.

As the new year opens, we'll take a look at the scores:

Japan controls the whole of the Philippines, as well as Guam and Wake, and the NE corner of Borneo from Miri down to Tarakan. In China, unfortunately, our presence at Shanghai and Tientsin has been eliminated, and Chinese forces are poised to attack Port Arthur.

On the naval front, we have taken a satisfyingly large bite out of the Royal Navy, as well as the Dutch and French. However, the main USN battleline remains intact, and unfortunately unaccounted for. Our submarines have been somewhat succesful, but have also taken grievous losses, and the single enemy submarine sunk in response is not a satisfactory state of affairs.

We are prepared to meet the expected American counterstroke in the Central Pacific head on, and expect it to happen quite soon. As for our other enemies, they will be dealt with in time...

An unmitigated disaster befell the Imperial Navy at Kuching today.

As should be blazingly clear from the accompanying screenshot, our squadron was completely outgunned, but the commander, vice admiral Kenji Yamamoto, charged the enemy ships anyway.

The result was sadly predictable: admiral Yamamoto flagship, the battleship Kashima, was sunk with the admiral still onboard. The only other vessel lost outright was the destroyer Momo, but nearly every other vessel in our force was fatally damaged.

Today, a strongly armed task force engaged the enemy off Kuching and scored a spectacular victory. Most of our ships suffered superficial damage only and of the others more heavily hit all are expected to make port. This Task Force was protecting the North western side of Borneo whilst a CV Task Force headed by the carrier Argus was protecting the South West. Enemies were sighted by Argus's planes but no hits were verified. All the allied navies are co-operating efficiently.

The IJN cruiser Tama sank today off the north coast of Borneo, another straggler from the battle of Kuching.

At Midway, the concept of the merchant cruiser as a commerce raider got sunk today, as the Nissyu Maru stumbled over a very large enemy convoy during the night. It only took the enemy's three escorting destroyers a short time to grievously wound our ship, and although she's limping away, she's very unlikely to make port.

Well I have to admit that luck has been on my side recently. My TF at Kuching was really sent there as a bit of an after thought and it struck gold. Following that the TF that encountered the merchant raider had only been joined by the DD Escorts two days ago.

The two DDs that found what appears to be another merchant raider outside Singapore were the most seriously hit ships from the recent battle of Kuching making their way back to port. As the screenie shows they are damaged but not beyond repair being so close to harbour.

The Imperial Guards Division secured the town of Samarinda, on the southeastern coast of Borneo, today. Our ultimate goal for this offensive remains the town of Balikpapan, which intelligence indicates is held by at least 6 distinct enemy units.

Today a Japanese commerce raider had the unfortunate experience of stumbling across three US Battleships 100 miles from Mare Island. It remains 100 miles from Mare Island but considerably deeper.
