That's one hell of a pic. That's the Tomi Zai (spelling) kamikaze hit that knocked Big E out for the duration in 45 isn't it? Must be the elevator at the top of the blast cloud.

Bingo. You get the prize. Didn't any of you guys read "The Big E"? I'm disappointed.

Well, you again will have to wait for your "prize" - probably tonight...

Here's something different. I'm pretty sure other people have experienced this, but it's a first for me. By the way, CPT Tamechi Hara is commanding the Amatsukaze, who did the deed.

yeah, that's always one to make you sit up and take notice!

There was a thread (not The Thread) about this about 9 to 10 months ago, iirc.

EDIT: Well, if anyone could pull this stunt off, it would be Hara (who developed the devastating IJN torpedo doctrine before the war...)

What bothers me is that the Plunger took 2(!) long lances and I didn't see her go down. This is part of a pretty big, nasty naval battle that's been going on for over a week (game time) and I don't expect closure on it for another few weeks. Here's what has happened so far (minus intel in case my opponent reads this).

I sent KB1 (Hiryu, Soryu, Shokaku & Zuikaku) SW from Kwajalein to hit some merchant ship convoys moving SW from Hawaii that were passing east of Canton. KB1 went south of Canton. KB2 (Akagi, Kaga, Shoho & Zuiho) moved north of Canton to catch them if they ran north. KB1 hit them and started slaughtering them. Next turn Yorktown materialized SW of KB1 and KB1 reacted south to them and in LBA range of Baker (I think?). They sank Yorktown and took moderate damage to Soryu. Soryu's planes landed on Hiryu, so now she can't launch any more. I started to move west to get Soryu out of there. KB2 moves from NE of Canton to trash the merchants. He didn't know KB2 was there. Next turn Saratoga appeared and launched on KB1. Hiryu and Zuikaku took heavy damage in return for heavy damage to Sara. I kept withdrawing and Sara withdrew south to Baker (?). I sent KB2 south at full speed and catch and sink Sara. Now I was really worried for Hiryu and Zuikaku. If they went down, I'd lose over 180 pilots of KB. Now it is really interesting. He's sending every sub in his inventory to catch them. KB1 is slowly withdrawing and KB2 is covering their withdrawl. So far I've managed to heavily damage 4 subs (although I haven't seen any of them sink) including Plunger. Plunger sank one of my DDs on ASW duty in the area.

His losses from this little incident are:

2 CV
2 CA
1 CL
5 DD
14 AK
13 TK

to my 1 DD (at this point).

I'd tell you more, but can't risk it at this point.

We're in late Mar 42 and this is our first major engagement. My opponent has basically run from me but I am now hitting his line of defense. I've taken the SRA, Burma, and the Solomons. I've also take Wake. He still controls PM although I have the rest of New Guinea. Pretty historical to this point.

I'll keep you informed as events transpire.

Well, since everyone here has gone to sleep, I'll post another interesting little tidbit.

I love my I-120 series subs. I sent I-122 on a minelaying mission to Diamond Harbor. She gets to port and dumps her 50 mines. An AK hits one and then she torpedoes and sinks the AK. This all happened the on the same turn.

Gotta love it.

I've had a couple subs hit by torps from defending escorts when attacking on the surface at night. It is pretty jarring to see. better than a double shot of esspresso!

Have you discovered the joy of Tina?

Nothing like being able to drop para units 20 hexes in any direction. Makes the Allies guard rear area bases or risk losing them or worse yet getting a supply line cut.

This is why I love dogs. Even after being snipped they have a smile. A cat would be leaving you a "gift" in your shoes.

Yeah, that's one of my aces up my sleeve. I'm doing some recce from my Emilys and Glens to find just the right target to hit. I want to be able to get the paratrooper in, take (and trash) the place and get out before he can kill the paratrooper. He's already told me that my float planes drive him nuts.

That's the stealth version for the CIA. It's designed to blend in with the indigenous population

The Allies tend to leave rear area bases in India unguarded. It is easy to do a slash and burn on the industry there. Also you can make him chase you around and cut his supply lines in the process.

How does a paratroop unit harm industry in a base. I thought the only way to do that was when a base force was made to retreat.
