Whoa ... just got the game ... read the manual, tutorial, and have done some dry runs to get used to the interface. Definitely feeling dizzy. So much to digest.

I've played EU and EUII a lot and while similar, CoG has such rich historical detail. I love the month turns and the 10 year scenarios. Anyone have any suggestions for getting started?

In my dry run of the 1805 scenario, the 2nd turn saw some massive battles in Switzerland between myself (France) and Austria/Russia. Battles of 300,000 men in the 2nd turn of the game is like being thrown in the deep-end! The tactical detailed battle is incredible. I managed to get the cursed Austrians to flee. But I feel out of my depth managing a country in the midst of such a massive war, at least right off the bat.

I've read some of Ralegh's Guides ... maybe they, like the manual, need time to sink in ...

That happened to me also. The best bet is to play a few games just to get used to the mechanics of the game. Don't be too serious at first, just focus on learning specific functions. Once you learn one thing, start a new game and work on learning another while incorporating what you learned.
