Guys,

I know you are hard at work regarding v1.8 (with whatever made the short list). would be nice to know what made the short list ....

Yeah I know, if a problem arises that not everything on the short list may make it to to the final product, but at least throw us a bone as to what may make it into v1.8. Yeah, if you post, some will complain about this or that, but at least we're aware of the direction.
Mike Wood showing up occassionally alluding to a surprise and disappearing is just a tease .....

You know Matrix never discloses anything about patches.
There might be spy's from other gaming companies ghosting this forum.

Yeah, I know there history, but thought some embarrassing grovelling would at least beget a crumb. Because, you know that grovelling is one step past begging ....

How do you know that? According to what's been posted on the forum, the person responsible for 1.8 is spending nearly all of his time working on a different new game.

Give him a break guys. They have to feed their families too. They can't spend all their time on a game that has been out for almost two years now.

It's like buying a can of coffee at the store and finding it's only 3/4's full.
As a consumer, wouldn't you go back to the store and ask nicely for the rest of your coffee.

Not after when will it be here Mike, just trying to get an appreciation as to what it "might" contain......

Shouldn't you be reviewing a Logistics/production spreadsheet ?

The fac thtat it has been out for amost two years is why the serious problems with the game are so worrisome.

And you are right, since the game is well beyond it sprofitable stage, I am guessing many of these problems will never be addressed.

Actually, I think that Matrix/2by3 has supported this game fairly well. They have been (to one extent or another, been working on v1.8. So I have no issue here. I'm just trying to grovell and find out what finally made the short list. Afterall, whatever did and consequently whatever gets into v1.8 is up to them. I'm just asking for a few crumbs as to what to expect. Presumably, severl of the corrections will only be valid on a new start and I'm trying to decide whether to start anew or wait .....

I am about as reasonable as rationality allows, but this game is almost two years old and there are serious BUGS still in the game.

BUGS! Basic finctionality that simply does not work correctly!Units don't go where you tell them, units that are not where they appear to be, etc.

Bot to mention serious gameplay issues that are not bugs, but design flaws where things just do not work as they were intended.

I am glad they did not simply abandon it, of course, but I would not call that "supported fairly well".

Patience my young Jedi .........

Seriously, for a game that's been out 2 years, other publishers would have already cut bait. Is it perfect ? Well, given there are still other porjects in the fire, not bad by my take. Will it ever get to where I want it ? No ! But, if it did, I'm guessing that Ron and awhole lot of others would still be complaining. There is no final solution here. Just baby steps. Keep up the good work Mike. And oh, BTW, how about throwing us a bone relative to v1.8.

I don't know any other game company which furnishes a forum for the gamers to "do their bitchin' ".
I do however see that Matrix has a history of providing "surprise" patches long after the game has been past the "profitibility" of doing so.
(SPWAW was provided *free* in its' initial release, and has remained so till now.)
Patches for it are still being released years after it was made available for *free*.

The fact we purchased other titles from them would (with other companies) merit no expectation of a guaranteed patch.
In fact, I know a couple of those other firms (some now defunct), which actually charged for the "upgrades"!!

Now, yuh wanna talk about flawed games?
Monopoly has been flawed ever since it was released.
There is NO randomness to having those railroads dead center on each side of their board.
Have you ever tried to negotiate a deal with a guy who owns all four of them ??
Forget it..
And whats' the deal with being forced to play against felons after being handed a wad of visible cash.
(I am referring to the jail in the corner, and the "bail bond" card which everybody clamours for to "get out of Jail free.")
Maybe there is an expectation that we shall all be in jail eventually ?
Ahh, we shall all be outdone by fools...Knaves...Idiots.......

We need to get Agent Penguin on this Matrix patch mystery right away.

I agree by the way.
It's like filling up my truck with $80's worth of gas.
Then finding out as I drive away that I only got $60 worth.

Driving away and telling myself, ah it's alright, they just haven't calibrated the pumps recently.
Yeah, OK. Some people might tolerate getting pinched, others won't.

Don't make me out like some whacko! Seriously, I just want it to work along some reasonable standard.

v1.8 needs more development time to be completed. We've been working on arranging for that time behind the scenes. Sorry for the wait on this. The primary goal of v1.8 is to fix the bugs in v1.795 and make sure that the most annoying and stubborn bugs - i.e. Disappearing Leaders, Disappearing Land Units are squashed. I'd also like to see ASW sighting toned down, but I'm happy with ASW balance overall.

The funny thing is, we've always been open about our updates as soon as we have a fix list. Once we realized development would be slowing down, we opened a limited beta forum to keep folks apprised of beta changes and let them try them before release. Even so, we're considered to not share info and some beta-specific bugs have been brought up on the forum as if they had been around for a year or as if the beta is considered the finished next release. <shakes head>

There is certainly incentive for us to withdraw and keep the whole loop closed until the next release, but that's never been our style. Some folks have realized that, others haven't. There's no question we're in a slow development period with respect to WitP, but that too will change. WitP has been through many versions and some recent bugs have not been around since the beginning, but appeared after one version's feature improvements, etc.

v1.8 will be released. There's no point to being irresponsible and rumor-mongering that we've abandoned it, which is contrary to everything we've ever posted here. The timing on that release, however, remains to be seen, but I think there will be good news on development time in the near future.

Regards,

- Erik

Take your time. I am more than satisfied with the support you have given this game, and right now I am very busy so I don't even have much chance to play right now. But, I will. Thanks, Erik.

Fact is, 1.6 is a good game! As a former surface sailor, I hate subs anyway, so I could care less is they get sent to the bottom!

Thanks Eric for the comments, but I have been telling friends to hold off buying until v1.8 gets released. But, that was when it was rumored to be done by Christmas. So much for that happening.

And speaking of Christmas, your News banner still is wishing everyone a merry Christmas.

Thanks for the comments Eric - as a person who often buys games that have been out for a while, and then being disappointed by the lack of support for games that are only a year old, I for one am very happy with ANY continued development, even if a slow pace. I have a feeling I'll be playing WITP forever (unless you guys do a WITP II) so waiting a bit for the patch is fine with me.

A comment like the above would be nice to see once or twice a month just to keep everyone posted though!

If the disappearing Leader and Unit bugs are going to be fixed - then i'm happy to wait - rather it is finally squashed now than it persist. Toning down the sub sightings by a/c would be most welocome.

Thanks Erik and Team
