I have now tried the game for a few days and here are a few things that I do not like. 1)Trying to get a (german) ship! It seems like half the time you can not get a ship because there are no officers to post a game. 2)After sailing around for an hour or more after you finally get a ship you get killed in your 1st battle. You try to spawn back but you get a message that it is invalid. Your day/night officer must have left the game. 3)When you 1st enter the game and try to get a ship but there are none, you then try to get a (british) ship but you have to wait until the "on leave" clears. Why? You really have not entered the virtual battlefield and you do not know what is going on. I have not made up my mind yet on wether I should buy the game after the free period is over. Also I have not tried to get a Tank. I would like to try a sniper position but that seems to be out of the question with just ten sniper positions available.

I love the game. I play infantry and having a hoot even though I die alot. Almost rank 3 after a week. Great game but steep curve. Join a squad really helps a bunch. I joined the 16 ID, great bunch of guys.

What is the weblink please for the 16 ID (stands for 16th Infantry Division?)? I've been playing for nearly two weeks now, and a member of another squad for about a week. I find my gaming experience to be very mixed, and am thinking about cancelling my sub. When it is good, it is great, but I spend many hours of precious (CIV4 or COG) time sitting around, or travelling to battle just to get wasted on first contact. I'm not a gaming n00b either, and I'm half way to my second rank through defensive AA gunnery alone. But as infantry or tank I just die all the time mostly even before getting a shot off.

The squad I joined seems to have no coordinated activities in spite of tuning to their Teamspeak and text channels.

I want to like this game, but I'm close to giving up. But if there is a squad out there that does really coordinate its activities, I'd like to give them a try before I give up.

Here is a thread with squads looking for new players (including rookies): http://forums.battlegroundeurope.com/showthread.php?t=47950

That thead should be viewable without a subscription.

As far as the naval game. Yes, it's lacking for the reasons you posted. It wasn't so bad before they added brigades, but now officers can only post naval missions when there is a naval brigade at that location. There are remedies in the works, though. CRS has talked about having fairmiles available at any brigade location (army, navy, air) as long as there is a port in the city. This should really improve the number of naval missions you'll see ingame. For lower ranked navy guys, fighting in the rivers is a little safer than sailing out where destroyers dominate you.

I have tried nothing but rifles and at rank three I use the LMG or the SMG the most. We had a training day over the weekened with the exp players showing us attack and defend tactics. Huge help I might add in the big picture of fighting. There was over 30 of us and next session we hope to have over fifty with tanks and planes in the training.

Dont give up ! This by far the most exciting game I have played for PVP. It took me about ten days of play before I got better and that was solo. Would have been faster if I had joined the 16 ID sooner.

Yesterday I tried the British Army. This was supposed to be a point attack. When I entered to my surprise, under availabe it said 3 snipers out of the 10 total were available. Alright, here is my chance to try the position. WRONG!! Clicking on it, said that it was invalid choice.Really? Ok, if I can't try to be a sniper, lets try to become a SMG there are lot more of them that are available. WRONG! Invalid choice. The only position that I tried which let me in was the Infantry. What gives? You are trying to learn the game and It won't let you try the different positions. Are these positions reserved for the Elite. You must have rank?

Gotta have rank. Most infantry types are available after 1 or 2 promotions. Simply grab a truck and create a mobile spawn point for a busy attack mission (stop truck and press D when you are within about 1km of the target area). If enough folks spawn out of your truck you'll pick up a rank or two in about a half an hour at your low level.

Another good way to gain rank fast is to grab an AAA gun and set up 20-40 meters from one of our army bases that Gerry is attacking. The axis brings in lots of slow Stukas for their attacks and they are easy pickings once you get good at leading aircraft when you fire. 2 or 3 planes should get you close to a promotion I'd think. They bomb inside the Ab all the time, so make sure you set up outside near some trees or buildings so they can't see you very easily.

Jim

I have been thinking about the AI on ships. I have never seen nor heard of any of the AI positions aboard a ship firing at the enemy. I have to man the position in order to fire the gun(s). Here is what I have in mind to suggest. Just leave the guns unmanned. If an enemy plane or soldier shoots up the gun, give to it a percentage of damage 12%, 67%, 88% etc. Now any human that hires on as a gunner will have the ability to repair such guns while out at sea. It will take time to repair the gun(s) depending on the damage which has occured. The human repairing the the gun(s) would earn points to his/her next promotion. Of course he can also be killed. Maybe doing this a ship could stay in the battle zone a little longer without having to respawn because your aa guns are out of action.
