Battle Rep of 12/23/41

MALAYA

2 of my DD sunk a PTM off Singapore.

DEI

Over Palembans I shot down 3 B-17 but they scored 23 hits on the oil plants. I'll reinforce the Zero defense there.

CS Chiyoda sunk today.

14 Martin and 3 Hudson attacked the TF Nagato on the way to refuel. No hit.

PI

I attacked Manila today with 53 Nell and 42 Betty, escorted by 41 Zero. The CAP was formed by only 13 P-40E, anyway I lost 1 Zero and 5 Nell, and I shot down 3 P-40E.

The para that arrived at Tugueguarao were usefull. They have been attacked by the 2 tank bn that I spotted yesterday. They moved fast! Tugueguarao is in allied hand again. Never mind, it's not so important. I will take care of this base later.


CEN PAC

At Palmyra ma TF, only 1 hex from the landing, has been attacked by enemy aircraft coming from a CV. This is the third CV of the US. I know that the other 2 were on the south, days ago and it's impossible that they navigate so far.
Anyway my TF is definitely lost: 3 DD, 1 AP and 1 AK.
Never mind, I'll concentrate on other objective.


SOUTH PAC

An enemy TF bombarded again Noumea.

Finally I have a good news from the Pacific. The KB spotted a surface TF just north of Espiritu Santu. This is really a surpise. What was doing the TF there? Waiting for my invasion forces? That's a bit strange. Stay there without air cover.
Anyway, tha TF was formed by:

CA Pensacola: hit by 18 bombs and 5 torpedos; sunk
CL Leander: hit by 13 bombs and 2 torpedo;
CL Achilles: hit by 6 bombs and 5 torpedos; sunk

Only 1 Kate lost.

I'm pretty sure that now the TF that bombarded Noumea will run away as fast as possible.
Now, with KB there, I can proceed with my plans.

MALAYA

Another AK lost by SS south of Singapore.
One more AK sunk at Johore by another SS, hit by an escort DD.
Altough still deadly, the SS are engaged by the ASW TF.
2 allied PT sunk at Johore.
Another AK hit with one torpedo by brits a/c.

I attacked Victoria Point and Johore afld, but no allied flights registered. Anyway the afld have been hit hard.

Taiping and Mersing captured.

PI

Big air battle over Manila.
I attacked the afld with 47 Nell, 38 Betty, escorted by 21 Zero. The allied CAP was formed by 29 P-40.
I've lost 3 Nell, 6 Betty and 1 Zero; 3 P-40E shot down and 1 Catalina destroyed.
4. Inf Division, on march toward Manila, has been attacked by some Blenheim.
I have to tell it: Chuck is plenty of surprise.

I'm scared by the two Armd Bn at Tugueguarao. If they go to Aparri, it will be a disaster. I have no inf units there and I'm sendind quick the Shuzuan Inf.
By now I'm trying to delay him with a shock attack of my courageous para.

CENT PAC

1 SS I-17, damaged in the past days, sunk today.
The rest of the TF destined to Palmyra has been destroyed. The ships didn't reach the destination. I don't know why, but he TF diverged from the route and headed for a position S of Palmyra.

An important AK with supply for Canton I. arrived today to unload.

DEI

The 56. Inf Bde started to land at Menado. The cover is assured by the baby-KB. The coastal guns caused over 600 casualties.


SOUTH PAC

CL Leander hit and sunk while he was trying to reach a safe port.

It's Christmas day for the western powers.

DEI

At Manado the TF Nagato, en route to the replenishment, bombarded the base. 339 dutch casualties.
My troops attacked and occupied the base, destroying 5 Martin 139, 3 Brewster 339 and 3 Demon. Not so much for me, but they are very precious for the dutch.
Now I'll keep the 56. Bde there for a while. I cannot trust on Chuck. If I leave and I place only one B.F. to manage the afld, I'm sure he will come back.
So I'll transfer there another inf unit from Mindanao.


BORNEO

After the big problems in Malaya, that took all my attention, it's time to continue with invasion. Some Inf units will be sent in various point of the big island to install important airfield.


MALAYA

Vildebeest are back in Singapore. They placed 1 torpedo on BB Haruna and 2 Torpedo on DD Akatsuki.
Another losses, probably, (the DD is at 88 flt) but it's what I have to pay for a bad plan. The warships have to take the allied hit, to leave the transport ships intact with the precious reinforcements on board. BB Haruna is at an incredible 2 sys damage after that torpedo.
One of my AK, damaged yesterday, sunk today.

PI

The 2 tank bn at Tugueguarao are pushing towards Aparri, as I said yesterday, but my para of 2. Rgt are doing an excellent job to delay them. At Aparri I landed today the Shuzuan Rgt. This should be sufficient to repulse an attack.


SOU PAC

In the south my invasion TF are sailing towards their respective objective, covered by the KB.

MALAYA

Another AK torpedoed and sunk. The SS hit by 1 DC. At least my escorts do something.
5 Nell shot down over Singapore, all by the Maj. Boyington
At Johore I have 45K troops and Chuck 30K. After all I should survive.
Now I will land the reinforcement at Mersing and no more at Johore. They will march until there.

SW PAC

I started to land troops at Lunga.
The invasion fleet of Luganville is two days away.
I've detected a small enemy TF W of Noumea. I'll send KB souht to check it out.


PI

I transferred troops to Ormoc, to continue with the occupation of the PI. Chuck has a lot of troops there and it won't be easy.
Manila afld has been hit hard, but I lost 3 Nell.
The 2 Arm Bn tried a shock attack agains Aparri with 150 tanks and AFV but the Shuzuan Inf repulsed it. 10 tanks and AFV destroyed.
At Tugueguarao the 2. para rgt conquered the base again. The 2 US Armd Bn were at Aparri and left Tugueguarao so I could occupy it easily.
My troops arrived at Clark Field. I start the bombardement today.


DEI

The TF Nagato is en route to Palau to refuel. The baby-KB is in Davao for the same purpose.
I'm loading BF for Manado. I want to start the air operation there asap.


SOUTH PAC

I spotted a big enemy TF, with 3 CA, moving west. I suppose this is the carrier TF that attacked my ships at Palmyra until yesterday.
It could raid Canton or Tarawa. I have to find some air squadron to reinforce them, but they are too far away and they will not reach the base on time I think. Anyway I'll try. At the moment I have 27 Nell, but the is an afld size 3, I don't know if they will fly.

DD Akatsuki, damaged few days ago, sunk today.
The TF Haruna sunk an allied TK south of Singapore. The same TF bombarded Johore, causing over 300 casualties.
Over Singapore I've send 60 Zero to fight the AVG. 2 Zero shot down vs 4 P-40. Another 2 P-40 shot down by my Sally coming from other airports.
I occupied Kuala Lumpur.


DEI

The TF Nagato refueled at Palau and sailed again. I left Yamashiro on port. She is sys 20 and need some rest. Not too bad, but she slows down the entire formation.



SOUTH PAC

I started landing in Lunga.


PI

Another air battle over Manila. I've lost 3 Zero and 5 bombers. The allied lost 6 P-40.
Chuck tried once again a shock attack agains Aparri, but he was repulsed.


CENT PAC

US a/c coming from a carrier attacked Canton I. and sunk one of my AK while unloading, (the unloading was almost complete), and hit hard the airfield.

Another AP torpedoed south of Singapore by a SS. Another one by a Vildebeest.
5 more AVG's P-40 shot down over Singapore. I've lost 1 Zero and 4 Lily.


CENT PAC

1 of my SS sunk W of PH.


DEI

At Manado 1 dutch SS attacked my merchant ships while unloading and torpedoed 1 AK.


PI

The ground bombardemente at Clark Field seems to produce some results.


CHINA

At Yenan the chinese attacked (deliberate). It has been a massacre. I lost 573 men, but Chuck suffered 3575 casualties.

Today no sign of AVG over Singapore. They maybe left the area.
Hit with 3 bombs one AK at Victoria Point.
Another AP torpedoed E of Singapore. I've lost the numbers of damaged merchant ships.

PI

The air battle continues. Today I lost 1 Zero and 2 Nell and I shot down 7 P-40.
One of my surface TF that was patrolling the area intercepted and sunk 1 AK west of Bataan. What are allied merchant ships doing in this area?

SOUTH PAC

I started to land in Nauru. The island has been conquered immediately. I wnat to install a floating base there.


DEI

I've lost 1 AK while unloading at Menado. The troops have been rescued.

One Catalina hit one of my AK with one torpedo, during the night!!
Another AP torpedoed by an SS.
My surf TF intercepted another AK again E of Bataan and sunk her. Is the second ship in two days. Chuck is trying to send supply to the PI garrison.
I tried a shock attack at Aparri against the 2 armd bn arrived there, but whithout success.


MALAYA

Another 4 AVG's P-40 shot down over Singapore, but I lost 1 Zero, 2 Sally, 1 Nell and 3 Lily.
DD Yudachi took 2 torpedo and sunk by the Vildebeest.
Malacca occupied. Now I have to conquer only (!) Johore Bahru and Singapore. Now I want to draw all the possible forces to Johore, to close the match asap.


BURMA

He started to bomb my bases in Burma with B-17. The ouverture is for the Imperial Guards Division, that reached Moulmein.


CENT PAC

Nell taking off from Canton hit with 4 bombs CA Indianapolis, W of the island.


DEI

One MSW damaged at Menado, while protecting the unloading merchant ship.

CA Indianapolis, damaged yesterday off Canton, bombarded the island tonight.
My Nells flying from Canton hitted with 1 bomb CA Louisville.

PI

At Manila, today, I destroyed 2 P-40, 1 Blenheim and 1 PBY.
At Iloilo, my troops have been attacked. I suffered heavy losses, but I'm still there.

DEI

Baby-KB attacked one AVD south of Amboina, hitting him with 7 bombs.

CHINA

He tried a delib attack at Nanchang, but I repulsed it. Jap losses: 1098 - All losses 1552

BURMA

At Moulmein Chuck tried also to attack my just arrived troops, without success.

This is the first day of 1942. December went not good for Japan. Too many losses, and only some success.
I tried something different than in the other games, but this proved to be a mistake.
Now I have to re-plan the whole campaign, because I cannot affort the same rate of losses.

PI

Strong air raid against Manila. 8 bombers damaged and 4 P-40E, 1 PBY and 1 Blenheim destroyed.
At Aparri the two US armd bn resisted to my shock attack.

BURMA

B-17 bombed my troops marching trough the jungle, near Moulmein. 177 deads.


DEI

One of my AP bombed near Sorong, but my troops conquered the base.
My Sally bombed 1 AK near Bankha.


SW PAC

One AK hit one mine near Noumea.
Finally my infantry arrived at Lunga and conquered the base. Now the construction of the afld can begin.


CHINA

I tried a shock attack against Hong Kong without success. No problem. I'll take my time.


The situation is not going fast as I hoped. I have a lot to plan. Later I'll post what will be my future objective.

The situation is normal everywhere. The big troubles in Malaya should be ended.

There is not too much to say as report.

I've decided to proceed with caution. Now I'll reinforce the garrison that I already have and I will occupy all the base in the back of those garrison. Example: Noumea and, soon, Luganville, will be reinforced and after, with the air cover from those bases, I'll occupy all the islands between SW PAC and Rabaul.
I have two inf divisions coming from Japan and loading onto ships. I think I'll use them in the PI. I want to close here the game asap and, then, go to Malaya to close the game there.

BURMA

Chuck is continuing to attack my troops at Moulmein with all that he has in India, Blenheim, Buffalo, B-17.
My attack against Moulmein didn't go well: 2850 casualties and zero result.

PI

At Ormoc my troops captured the base and 1528 prisoneers.
At Iloilo the Kainan infantry is at the extreme limit. I'm sending reinforcement as quick as I can but I don't know if they'll arrive in time.

MALAYA

We are continuing to bombard each other at Johore. I don't have enough forces to attack but I can stay there until I want.

BORNEO

I reinforced the garrison at Singkawang. Now I can base there 220 planes. The AF is at size 3 (expanding) but a lot of planes can already operate.

CHINA

South of Nanchang two of my division encountered what seemed to be only a couple of enemy units so I ordered them to attack. But the enemy units where ten, with over than 92'000 men and I suffered 6092 casualties At least their march in direction of Nanchang is stopped.

DEI

Next step will be the conquer of Amboina. I'm sending TF Nagato to bombard the installation, while the 56. Bde is loading ad Menado to attack the base. 22. Base Force is loading at Palau to provide the air ops.

SW PAC

Rabaul is at size 4 and can operate Betty and Nell.

SS I-53 placed 2 torpedos on one dutch AK off Batavia.

TF Nagato bombarded Amboina, killing 607 enemies.


SOUTH PAC

I've occupied Abemana. Is not so important as a base, but I hope this move will force him to react.


CHINA

Chuck tried a shock attack at Kaifeng. Result: a massacre; 2582 chinese dead. I've lost 293 men. I don't know how long my troops can hold the position. There are over 60'000 chinese and I have less than 20'000 men.
South of Nanchang, where yesterday I've lost over 6000 men, the chinese attacked and forced my troops to retreat to Nanchang. I've lost 776 men and the chinese 1'121.
The situation is very dangerous.

PI

Reinforcement are arrived at Ilolio and begun to unload. The Kainan guards hold with success the position.

On allied AK torpedoed by one of my SS near Batavia. My crew seem have found the way to fight as Emperor is expecting since the beginnig of the war.
One of my Nell taking off from Palembang, attacked and placed one torpedo on DD Electra in the Indian Ocean.
Other victims of my planes operating in the area are 1 TK and 1 AK.
I transfer there one daitai of DB Ann. The plane is not so great, the bombs are of only 100 kg, but against merchant traffic I think it's enough.

He tried to come back in Menado, attacking with is garrison, but without success.

From Menado I've loaded part of the 56. Bde that is currently heading to Amboina, protected by the TF Nagato and the baby-KB.



PI
The reinforcement arrived in Iloilo stopped the attacks of the allied.
The 2. Armd Bn in Aparri are still alive. They tried again to conquer the base, but they lost another 11 tanks.

SW

I've decided to invade PM now, before he can reinforce it. I have all the 16. infantry division for this purpose. I now it's risky, but in this game I want to take some risk, and to wait. For the air cover I have Zero in Rabaul and Lae and I splitted KB. I know is not a great idea, but I need some Zero over their heads. Shokaku and Zuikaku are heading towards PM.
For today thunderstorm are forecasted in the area, and this is good.
A surface TF with 4 CA and 2 DD is coming asap from Rabaul to help with the invasion. Is now some hexes in the back of the inv TF. I don't know if the 16. div will be enough but reinforcement are on their way.
Anyway, maybe this will force Chuck to come out with his CVs.

Another AK topredoed by I-55. She sunk.
The TK damaged yesterday also sunk.
Chuck ordered a night air raid over Palembang. 1 resource hit.

Today I landed on Babo.

The Nell coming from Palembang placed 2 torpedos on DD Pope, and sunk him north of Kuching. What he was doing there? Chuck has a lot of courage and he has no intention to loose without inflicting me all the possible losses.

Other ships attacked in the waters between Borneo, Sumatra and Java: 3 AK and 1 MSW sunk. They had 4th NEIAF Base Force on board. The men are now swimming.

My invasion TF is now 1 hex W of Amboina. The landing will begin during the night.


BURMA

My Oscar operating in Burma managed to limit the damage that the allied bombers inflicted to my troops, but today Chuck used also the B-17. I have to organize a serious air defense there, but for now I can't. I've sent an air regiment to Bangkok but he needs two more days to arrive at destination.


SW
I started the air campaign over PM, with 39 bombers.

Meanwhile planes from Shokaku and Zuikaku sunk one AK SE of PM.
Maybe Chuck will think that the whole KB is south of New Guinea and he will come out with his CVs to attack my ships around New Caledonia. I really hope the things will go in this way, so that I'll attack him with the KB.

The invasion force is just one day from PM.

The infantry has finally arrived in Luganville. The base is now occupied.

PI

Iloilo is captured today. The enemy forces are retreting toward Roxas.

The 56. and the 2. Division are coming from Japan. I will unload them in Luzon.


SOUTH PAC

850 men are sailing to Nanomea, to occupy the atoll.

During the night I started to land in Amboina.
On daylight, A-24 Dauntless attacked my ships. Baby-KB assured the air cover but they scored 1 bomb hit on one AP and 2 bombs on one MSW, that sunk in the evening.

Babo is captured.

SOUTH PAC

Nanumea is in my hands.

The AK Tsuneshima Maru, loaded with suplly for Canton I. has been sunk by an allied SS. This is a bad event, because Canton is short of supply.


SW PAC

In the afternoon, also the landing on Port Moresby begun.


MALAYA

Now I have all the troops at Johore, with 1892 AP. I'll try immediately a shock attack today.

I wnat to try a delib attack at Clark, just to see how strong is the defense.

2 AK sunk today by my planes in Palembang and Singkawang

SW PAC

An enemy surface TF (CA Canberra, CL Perth and DD Le Triomphant) surprised my invasion TF at Luganville. The escort's DD have done a splendid job. DD Kasasagi and DD Hiyodori are sunk and DD Kiji suffered heavy damages, but only one hit on one AP and three hits on Canberra. The unloading operation can continue.
Mavis arrived today at Luganvill and the recon operation can start immediately. KB is south of Noumea, where I spotted 1 CA moving west.

PI

As I expected the delib attack at Clark Field went bad. I've lost 1211 men vs 1603 allied.

MALAYA

In Johore the Shock attack reduced the fort to 0, but this costed me 4313 men vs 2044 brits.

SOUTH PAC

Nukufetau is occupied.

I captured Boela, SE of Amboina.
On Sumatra I captured Djambi, N of Palembang.

MALAYA

The brits have evacuated Johore to avoid heavy losses during my attack. No I can concentrate the forces on Singapore.

CENT PAC

I landed and occupied Baker I.

PI

The 56. Inf Div has arrived in Aparri and the 1. Eng Regiment in Tugueguarao.
In a few days also the 2. Ind Division will reach Luzon and, after the elimination of the two US tank regiment in Aparri, I will proceed against Clark.

This is not a good day.

I tried two deliberate attacks, one at Clark and one at Moulmein. None meet success.
Also in Amboina my attack has been repulsed.


PI
I'm unloading at Cebu I. the last allied base in the Philippines, except those on Luzon.
I spotted one AP 2 hexes W of Manila. I ordered Naval attack to my planes in Taiwan.

DEI

In Amboina the 56. Bde is tired. It's the third invasion in 1 month and it's maybe too much. I need to send some reinforcement there to help those guys.

SOUTH PAC

The DD Asanagi has been sunk by an enemy surface TF at Nukufetau. It was the escort of a small AP loading a little group of infantry from the atoll.

PI

At Aparri I forced to surrender the two US tank bn, capturing 2976 men and destroying 125 tanks.

BORNEO

Sandakan is conquered by a Nav Gd unit, marching from Jesselton.


BURMA

I have installed a quiet big afld in Bangkok. Aircrafts taking off from there have attacked a big convoy in Rangoon, sinking 1 AK, 1 MSW and 1 PC, and damaging 2 AK

CHINA

Finally I captured Wenchow, in the south.

This is a tough period and I don't have much time for the AAR, and even to play.
I missed 3 days of report, but nothing so important is happened.

PI

I intercepted another AK directed to Manila, I suppose, and I sunk her.
In Roxas I finished off the defenders of the island, capturing 1192 men.
Apart Luzon, I have only to occupy Cebu I.

MALAYA

Today I lost 6 Nell and 1 Zero, while I shot down 4 P-40.

BURMA

2 more AK hit in Rangoon harbor and 1 in Moulmein. Another 1 hit off Rangoon. I'm trying to understand if he's leaving or if he's reinforcing.


SO PAC

Chuck is doing some recon over Noumea and Canton I. He's trying to figure out what I have there. I think that Canton is more in danger than Noumea. For this reason I'm sending there a lot of air assets.

I captured Amboina today. I've occupied Boela days ago, so the 4382 allied soldiers of Amboina could not retire there and they surrendered.

BURMA

At Moulmein I'm always fighting. He has ammassed thousands of troops there. My forces have been too slow to march and he had all the time to reinforce. I'm thinking to call back the troops and to use them in other operations.

His subs scored good hits today. 2 TKs sunk at Brunei and Miri, while loading oil.

DEI

One small dutch TF, with CL De Ruyter and 3 DD attacked 1 AP, 2 PC and 2 DD at Amboina.

PI

I captured Dumaguete base, with 2782 allied soldiers.

BURMA

At Moulmein I made another shock attack and another disaster: 2931 dead.
I'm seriously thinking to retreat from there and to go directly to Lashio and Mandalay. At Moulmein I'm loosing only time.

The allied aviation is very effective everywere. Chuck placed some B-17 arounf the theatre and, even if they are operating in few numbers, they scored several hits.
But the event of the day is the occupation of Manila by my troops.
I've lost 2132 men and I inflicted 1632 casualties to the allied and I've destroye 8 A-24 on the ground that were transferred there a couple of days ago.

The first assault on Cebu failed, but I'm transferring more reinforcement to close the game.

In the S Pac I'm proceeding smoothly. Before I want to conquer all the base that I left behind my conquest, to have the air cover. I cannot keep KB there forever.

It's though to keep an AAR.

CHINA

Hong Kong falled today, finally. 19583 prisoneers.
I send the 104. division back to Canton, togheter with all the support units.
The 38. division will remain in HK and will be transported in Malaya, to help conquer Singapore.

At Yenan the fort has been reduced to 1. I hope to occupy the base during the week.

MALAYA

It's time to start a serious air campaign against Singapore. I want to free some units asap and the airport there is still open. I cannot send reinforcement there until allied aircraft can operate from there.
I'm transferring bombers in Saigon, Johore and Palembang. I'll set up some in naval attack and some in afld attack, against Singapore, Batavia and Kuching. Some allied aircraft attacked Singkawang from Kuching, forcing me to evacuate.
Meanwhile, I'm trying a deliberate attack, just to see how strong is the defense.

Ok Kealun. Three more days and at Feb 1st I'll post some maps.

MALAYA

Today I started air campagin against Singapore.
I've lost 8 bombers and 1 fighter but the afld has been hit hardly.
I tried also a delib attack against the fortress with no result. I've lost 3800 men vs 2700 brits.
Ok that's a very important info for me. Now I'll stop the attack and I'll continue to bombard.

DEI

I bombed also Kuching afld and Batavia afld

PI

I captured Naga. Obviously he moved towards Manila with all the troops he has.
At Bataan the 56. division failed to attack.
