Hi all!

Im very happy with this wonder game but as a Spanish Historician i must say...None of the game´s creators has readed the Peninsular War (Guerra de la Independencia 1808-1814)? I know the great battles of Wellington and his friends from Lisboa to Tolouse but we dont must forget the great battles of Spain with better or lower skills. The first great napoleonic crushing defeat in Bailen, the eternal hispanic guerrilla, the spanish total war (from a boy to old men and women)...generated a lot of good comanders like Castaños -victor of Bailen-, Spoz y Mina -Better general of Guerrilla-, Alvarez -great defender for 6 months of Gerona-, Empecinado -great controller of middle Spain-, La Romana, Blake, Reding, Cuesta, etc...
Wellington, Napoleon, Blucher, Charles, etc was a great generals but not the ones.

I think the devs have a distinct British slant (look at the ratings of the common British generals compared to those of other nations, nevermind the lead programmer's own avatar), and it is common for British historians to slight the efforts of Spain in the Peninsular War.

Was just thinking the same thing this week when I picked up an old book about Wellington's Peninsular campaign. Aside from the issue of Spanish generals, I think that there's probably a need for more national character in general, other than differing morale and the geurillas/cossacks/landwehr units. It would be nice to see some upgrades limited to certain nations, and differing ranges for taxes, feudal levels, conscription rates, fortifications, etc. for each nation.

We had difficulties finding portraits for Spanish generals (and for Turkish generals).

It is very easy to mod the game to add new generals or to change their stats. We even have room for more than 100 additional portraits of generals.

Yup, I can confirm that. It was difficult to find usable portriats of even the handful of top Spanish leaders. Thank goodness for Goya. IIRC, There were a couple of low-quality b/w images of some of the guys, but it took so much effort to colorize them that they got cut and replaced w/ others.

The turks were worse, though; There are 1001 portraits of the Sultan, but few of anybody else. Fortunately, nobody recognizes what those guys look like, and their clothing styles don't change much either so we can use people from 50 years before or after.

The russians have the best portraits. Meticulously documented.

You can just upload them to the forum here. When posting a reply there is a line of text below the body of the message that reads "Click here to upload!" Click there to upload. The Matrix forums support most popular types of file formats -- jpg, gif, etc. -- with files up to 200K.

In addition, the Peninsular War wasn't underway yet in 1805, though in retrospect we could maybe have programmed more Spanish generals to appear later on in the scenario. Timetables for the appearance of leaders was something we were really only able to implement in part, I would say.

ok Mr Z but let me tell a pair of things:

General Castaños was a high ranged general from a little time before 1805 and also a lot of spanish generals.
The guerrilla´s heroes like Empecinado, Cura Merino, Espoz y Mina... only from 1808 but not the others comanders, my friend.

I have a lot of photos and i´ll publish soon with his own history!

PS: Sorry for my poor english im a spanish

Hard du Sarge? LOL...I'm still laughing I think you need a modesty modifier! Hmmmm...I wonder if they can find one of those huge French bicornes big enough? Perhaps dye some unused sails from a French Man-o-war and a lot of starch?

God Bless ya HS!

Sorry...I'm still laughing.

Hard du Sarge....

So perhaps the thing to do for Turkey would be to take the image of the Sultan and reuse it by dressing him up in various disguises -- Gen. Groucho Marx, Gen. Zorro, Gen. Long John Silver, etc.

I would like to say that spain had good generals , but ...we lost all the battles in which we were alone against the french. Bailen was and small one , were we beat 2 divisions( 1 of cavalry ) , and Castaños never was in the field . Readding was the real winner, and we were very , very lucky.

But , i think that the generals we have in the game are a bad examples , I mean, Godoy never leaded an army, Palafox was a coward , that run away from Saragossa, leaving his army under siege, and I haven´t information about Urrutia.
The worst are de diplomats.....Dom Joao , and De Sousa....are they playing in the Brassilian ligue?
