Use Irvings for CAPing the rear bases that are out of P38J range. The only use for them, and you get a free fighter cover for a base.

That is the only logical conclusion Honda. What is the extended range of the P-38J - 15 hexes?
Andy was a bit surprised that Eniwetok fell this quickly but when you consider that he landed ca 3
division of troops to defeat 2 naval guard units...

Reveived loads of Frances bombers today - loadout is 4x250 kb bombs. Does this mean that this torpedo
bomber will only carry bombs? Been a bit afraid of this! All new Daitais now arrive with crappy
pilots with an average of 45 exp. Lost 5! Francis in transfers from Japan to Shanghai in cloudy weather.

The good news: One of the Zeke Daitai's that arrived upgraded to 54 George's

Got soo many air units now that it's really difficult to know where to put them. Now as Andy is about to
finish his dirty work in the Marshalls his numerous carriers will most likely come looking for trouble.
I don't want to provide them with too many easy kills. Difficult situation really, but it could have been
worse

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 01/12/44

Ground Combat

Still some fight left in the troops!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ground combat at Eniwetok

Allied Deliberate attack

Attacking force 30210 troops, 256 guns, 14 vehicles

Defending force 9890 troops, 5 guns, 0 vehicles

Allied assault odds: 10 to 1

Japanese ground losses:
889 casualties reported
Guns lost 2

Allied ground losses:
575 casualties reported
Guns lost 10
Vehicles lost 1
-------------------------------------------------------------

Do you want to upgrade to the N1K1-J George?

The problem is that you started (as I remember) under ver. 1.21. So later OoB changes are not included. Seems that Frances recieved torpedoes during later patch.

I believe that early version under which you started is the problem too. Bad for you, because Freances could carry torpedoes up to 11 hexes distances and are fast and armoured. With bombs its another worthless plane like Sally or Helen in 1944.

IIRC P38G has extended range 9 hexes, but i am not sure about P38J.

Stop it with that or he's gonna commit suicide

No seriousely, no way a save or a OOB may get edited to enable this midgame?

Frances without Torps are really a game breaker. It can make a massive difference in the decisive battle between sinking several capital ships and just damaging/scratching them, which in turn can maker the diffference in an invasion....

Hope it can be tweaked somehow...

They will still be quite useful as Kamikazes. Train them up in china, and then..

No way to change the OOB without restarting the game...so that's it!
Will train my Frances to 85-90 exp and use them as night kamikazes or long range bombers!
Max range is 15, normal range 11.

Not sure how easy it is to get night kamikazes to take off against enemy targets

Took a look at the historical 6/44 scenario and noticed that the Japs had just as many - and more - troops
on many of the forward bases than I we do. Hm, not sure were they come from...instead of putting troops in Burma
I got mine in India. If I were to put 2 full divisions each on Timor, Rabaul, the Bonins, Formosa + 4 in New Guinea
and 4 in the Marianas/Palaus I'd have to rob China/Kwantung

Mike added the ability to update devices from newer patches, but I believe there is no unit or group OOB update.

That last poochs€rew was most annoying indeed Fishbed - and if Fegelein (Matrix) had been around
they would have gotten their fair share of the music

Not much happening, Andy is busy with his 'stuff' around the Marshalls and I continue to organize
the defenses. Moving 5 aviation regiments from Japan and ex Kwajalein/Eniwtok to the Philippines.
2 heavy artillery units are enroute to Menando and Morotai.

It will now take a major effort to crack the defensive perimeter no matter were it's attacked

sank the carrier Shinano in December 1944!

Andy continues to move his carriers towards the Bonins! What is he after?
I'm happy to let him burn fuel and accumulate system damage.

In May 1944 we receive another 3 fleet carriers. The last major naval reinforcement of the war!

What now? Andy moves his carriers west towards the Phillipines! I'm adjusting my

get to close 2000 ac will target them! A replenishment group has left the Marshalls and
is trailing the carriers.

400 fighters over Tokyo and Ulithi...we wait!

Maybe he has all his bombers on ASW or Naval Search and his fighters at 90% CAP. Trying to get you to fly against him so he can down a lot of your aircraft. That sounds sneaky, like andy. He could also just have them set to Naval Attack and rest.

If so I would get all the fighters on CAP over sensible airbases and wait for him to come, maybe with the KB some hundreds kilometers away on interception course...
I mean, we can be sure you will achieve nothing about a 200+ ubercap as they will be no leakers - BUT, if he gets impatient and comes get nasty against one of your marianas airbases, that would be nice to be ready to welcome him, and strike back if he gets a little weaker...

That's probably what he wants...but I don't understand why that supply train just left Eniwetok.
Unless he wants me to go after it

I've put my fighters and bombers on Pagan on range 2 - if he gets that close all 4 islands in the chain
will be able to launch coordinated strikes. If that happens even 300 fighters on CAP can't stop em all!

Going to take the losses that are incured and let Andy play his game. If he makes a mistkae I'll be on him
like a hornets swarm

This is really a good occasion to use the KB if ever he is unlucky enough to got something hit, or more simply if his CAP gets depleted. He is really more or less far away from anything...

Thing is, safest bet for a great battle is still when he is tied up with protecting a landing, yet you cannot let him play in your backyard without reacting... KB is at Ulithi right ? What is his likely return path, This is when you can strike, he'll be lower in fuel, and any damage would complicate the return trip even more...

Well, not that I qualify as an expert or anything... just my two cents.

Well, Andy wanted to strike the ships in Osaka: his max speed dash didn't bring his carriers
close enough though so they hit some transports in Bonin Island (port) instead and sank them with
a massive strike. Me thinks the carriers will go back home now, got to be low on fuel. All this reckless
driving must have incurred some sys damage as well.

My response was to move almost 400 fighters to Osaka as well as 350 fighters and 200 bombers to Tokyo.
The warships made a dash for a more northernly port so there were only low value ships left in Osaka/Tokyo.
The enemy fleet is now just south of the Bonins.

I've actually got 2 carriers, 4 escort carriers, 3 battleships, cruisers and lots of destroyers in the Home Islands.
Been upgrading the Shokaku's and transporting air groups. Been thinking about a little offensive 'up north' as well!

Not very keen on engaging the enemy carriers unless my LBA can soften them up *considerably* first. Can't afford a Midway
or a Stalingrad..have to keep kewl!

Heavily CAP but no match for the KB
Too bad you would need a very bad interception course, I suppose you can't intercept them without getting in range of the returning strike fleet right?
A couple of CVE or CVL for lunch would have been kewl

True Unfortunately I'm not in a position to intercept and Andy's carriers are heading
back towards the replenishment group. He said these long range strikes are a waste of time and
effort cause they're so easily spotted...so I guess we won't be seeing them again for a while.

While the US carriers have been spending fuel the Combined Fleet has been gathering strength and
a massive air armada is now taking shapes! The air fields of China, the Philippines, Japan and
the Marianas hold thousands of highly trained army and naval aircraft

I've managed to to the near impossible: 4 full divisions have been relocated from Kavieng to NG,
Truk and the Marianas by air transport without Andy noticing anything Not many troops left on
Kavieng, the first assault will drop it... Andy hasn't bombed the place in a long time so I took
a chance and moved some transports in. Other transport units operated out of Truk, Hansa and Ponape.
A troops convoy carried the crack 16th Division from the latter just a few days ago - right in front
of Andy's nose!

So Hansa and Wewak are both garrisoned by a full division while the smaller bases of Dagua and Aitape
are held by 1-2 regiments. A strategic reserve is yet again available in the Marianas.

Numerous aviation units and Army/Air HQs are being shipped from Japan to the Philippines and the Bonins.
A few more months and we're ready to face the storm! The Hiyo is down to 10 sys damage and most of my
heavy cruisers and battleships have only minor system damage left.

So my apologies for being kinda defensive (boring:) - a major Allied mid 44 offensive isn't easily defeated!

The Sitz krieg continues! When the $hit hits the fan next time I'm afraid there will
be no more breaks until the war is over.

Andy's raid towards the Home Islands certainly accelerated my plans about strengthening
the air defenses there

Promised you a sub attack on the US carriers...well, depth charge attack followed
by immediate sinking of Jap sub was perhaps more correct Really frustrating
to be able to set up the perfect intercept for nothing. Well, asw ac sank a US sub
today and ships damaged another. Submarines are truly cursed in this version of the game.

Talking about the sun...Andy suddenly performed a bombardment attack on Kavieng!
Guess he was surprised, shock attack tomorrow I assume.

Ground combat at Kavieng

Allied Bombardment attack

Attacking force 4815 troops, 43 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 5275 troops, 117 guns, 0 vehicles - not a lot of combat troops but 4800 enemy

troops

HMS Shropshire: a date with Miss Betty!

I've reduced the range of my Bettys to a range of 2 for a long time. Increased it again a few days ago
and voila. It's just like fishing
