Hi,
Just for shnits and grins I started an AI game as the Japanese. I wanted to see their side of the game and fool with the production system.

I am using Andrew Browns map (scen 16) and it is now 01 JAN 42, and I have - the British bottled up at Singapore, the USAFFE bottled up on Bataan and Cagayan, taken Hong Kong (Dec 20), Wake (Dec 15), Guam (Dec 12), and Midway (Dec 24), as well as the entire Malayan peninnsula below Ragoon, Luzon and Mindanao, and sunk numerous allied ships (cruisers, and transports unescorted between Borneo and Mindanao).
My subs are brazenly operating in the California coastal hexes from San Fran' to San Diego (lost one sub, torpedoed the USS Porter).
And last, I have combination A6M & G4M/G3M groups from Davao to Midway on every principle island in between.

Seems like a lot of conquest for three weeks work.

Question: is it always this easy for the Japanes initially? say till about May 42?

Good work. Seems your very well organized.

Yes, against the AI this is possible and against a PBEM player too if you are well organized and the Allies don't get too lucky (like force Z surprising a landing force).

IMHO, this is becuase most players are far more aggresive because this is a game with no real world consequences.

I think that's a big 10-4

Just curious - do any of you out there even play against the AI as Japan?

EDIT: I am surprised to observe that the Air Combat model under these circumstances (computer AI - Allied) looks surprisingly realistic.
An example:
I was attacked over Malaya by 7 Buffalos and 6 Blenheims, I had some 20 odd Oscar I's on CAP. The result was 3 Buffalos and 1 Blenheim shot down against 4 Oscars. Had that battle happened in a PBEM - I'm sure all of the Buffalos would have been downed against probably 0 or 1 Oscar's (I routinely see 10:1 and 20:1 kill rates in the Japanese favor...even at even odds, in my PBEM where I am Allied)
