Hi, Sorry I don't see how a person can mostly do both.
The question is "I mostly play" AI or PBEM

The problem is that right now I play all PBEM but that is because the AI seems to do some really stupid things. A better AI and I might be close to mostly AI.

I assume you ae asking for how we play right now, so I voted PBEM.

Huh?

I play the smaller scenarios against the AI for training.
The entire campaign I do PBEM.
Because against the AI, I will stomp it within a year.

If the AI were good I would play AI much more then PBM. I have no life, against the AI I could make 10-20 turns a day on weekends, in a good PBM I get 1 on weekdays and 3-6 on weekendes if the opponent is willing. That is not good enough for my addiction.

poll will probably be skewed towards PBEM game, as most people who play AI probably don't visit the forum much

Two releases then.
1. With AI.
2. Without AI.

3. Toggle on/off AI.

hate to point this out...but most of the users in the forum tend to be PBEM players...they are online quite a bit participate is chats and AARs....I do not think that the majority of users who purchased this product participate or are active in this forum...hence this type of poll will be slanted

btw...i voted AI

intresting ! I am not sure how the distribution of the votes would be counted on every copy sold in the world .

I play 90% PBEM if you count my playing time. I started some AI games here and there but I skipped them usually after a few turns and lost complete intrest in playing the AI by now.

I have a couple of AI games that I make a move in once in a while. The AI is pretty dumb though so those are to explore new stuff (like playing the Nips).
The games I care about are the PBEM ones (3 right now).

I agree that most of the folks who vote here will be PBEMers. Perhaps after say two weeks the total number of votes can be tallied and compared to the total sales and some kind of meaningful conclusion can be drawn (maybe not).

This is not really useful since only a very small proportion of WitP buyers use these forums.

I agree on that, plus most people posting seem to be PBEM people. And as I said above, I play PBEM because the AI is so bad. I remember playing a lot of PacWar against the AI( until I found matrix games and PBEM ) Improve the AI so it doesn't do stupid things and I'll play the AI.

I'm sure that the majority of game owners play more against the AI than PBEM. What would be interesting is how many of them are playing the "entire war scenario" all the way through, and how many are playing the shorter and/or smaller scenarios? It's trying to get the "big" scenario to work with the AI that really causes the problems. In the scenarios it can be tweeked to meet individual cases and needs much more easily.

Well, the grand campaign is the only scenario I'm really interested in and the main reason why I bought WitP. And I play AI only, for several reasons I don't want to discuss here.

My vote was for AI and like kafka, I usually only play the grand scenario. We have alot of the same problems with bugs just like the pbem folks. I think it's safe to say both types of players are looking forward to improvements. It will hopefully make play better for all.

I don't quite understand folks who like to play the 4 year full war scenario against the AI. What's the point after 6 months to a year? The AI just can't provide a decent opponant after that point. It fumbles around with no clear purpose or direction, sending it's forces to certain destruction or hiding them away in rear areas as if it can't figure out what to do with them. I'd love it if it could play an intelligent game (or even a competent one) in the full war scenario. But it can't. And in the need to try to "help" the AI "hang in there" lie many of the games biggest problems. I don't reccommend leaving it out because it wouldn't be a great thing to have---but because it just doesn't seem possible under current programing restrictions to build one that will work.
And if it can't be made competent, and it causes untold problems and difficulties in design, then it seems better to leave it out and at least have a good game for PBEM than to leave it in and have a poor (or unworkable) one that tries to be both. I hope the "new guys" have some ideas that can get around this problem..., but if they can't make it happen then at least give us a good and accurate human vs. human game.

My guess is those who regularly post in here do PBEM...but or more casual gamers do the AI.

I would like to be able to finish PBEM games with AI when they prematurely pull out of the game.

I don't play against the AI in any wargame I play, I play CS, ACOW, WitP and WPO - I don't think I've played a turn against the computer in over 2 years.
