Playing scen 17, USN. Patch 2.41 (no anomalies yet besides this sub and recon air raid thing) Date is Feb 22 43.

Here is the thing. I set a sub TF to patrol, minelaying or transport either as human or PC controlled. It goes off and does its thing. And will continue to do so until I stop them. If I disband a sub TF - regardless of misson or who controlled it - the sub will leave port on its own the following day as a sub TF, patrol mission and computer controlled. This always happens if the sys damage is 10 or lower. Higher sys damage - it will stay until the sys damage reaches 10 then it will leave on its own. One other thing to mention - the sub will sail away from port for one turn, then its orders will change to return to port. Anyone seen this before. Are my sub commanders protesting something?

It seems like the only way to break this behaviour is to change the sub control to human and give it a new destination. If I leave it computer controlled, it keeps returning to port, docking, shoving off the next day for a 1 day cruise.

The other behaviour that is a bit odd, the Japanese air strikes against bases have stopped, but I get daily raids over most of my bases by recon planes. This has been going on for close to 2 weeks now. Is this some sort of tactic to rest their LBAs and tire out my cap?

Disable Auto Sub OPS in preferences/game setings menu. Now you really have full control of your subs.
Try to increase your CAP or use different alts for your CAP so you may catch the one or the other recon plane.

Thanks for the response. I will try changing the sub ops in prefs - although some times I dont mind the computer handling some sub ops.

As for the recon planes, I dont mind if they want to fly missions over my bases, and my cap catches a recon plane now and then. What I was wondering why the sudden stop in Japanese combat air ops. Since the beginning to the game, weather permitting, they were bombing something somewhere. Now it seems they are content to stay parked. My recon shows close to 600 planes based between Rabul and Shortland and I am sure Truk is stacked. Even surface bombardment missions against Shortland go uncontested (by air) and only the local bombers in Rabul will come up if I send a surface bombardment TF against them. I've even parked a CV TF within SBD range of Rabul and they dont seem to mind. (Earlier in the game, any TF that spent more than a day at Port Moresby unloading was visited by Bettys and Nells. - Even had a raid against a TF unloading in Cairns - Australia.)
