Hi folks, in order to get as wide coverage as possible I will be doing periodic updates on the status of PureSim 2006 from my blog. I just did my first post in a while and it includes some info on PureSim 2006 (though not much new as far as folks around here would be concerned)

The blog is located at: http://puresim.blogspot.com/

Shaun

Thanks for the link and the update Shaun. All looks great - and would be happy to pre-order and be among the public testers !

Shaun,

Assuming this is where you were wanting people to note their interest in participating in the 2006 version public beta, let me say that I, too, would be ecstatic to be part of it and pre-ordering would not be problem. (If I'm going to buy anyway, why not pre-order?)

I look forward to the release of the game, both beta and final versions!

Ken

I would love to beta if possible. I really like that almanac feature. That is going to add a lot to the game.

Shaun, concerning the expansion of minors to include AA and A, will this be a feature that's "required" in all associations? Personally, I'd like to keep the single level of minors in my current assn. and have the option to use all three levels in any future assn. I create. Thanks for the screen shots. I continue to salivate over the new almanac.

You can count on testing from me, my friend.

Though...

The only constraint is I will probably limit it to folks that pre-order the game.

We couldn't pre-order for PureSim 2005 Gold, and the blog entry is the only information suggesting that pre-ordering will be supported for 2006.

My two cents.

The extra minors isn't something that makes a difference to me. I'd never use it. But everything else I really like.

Couple suggestions. A graphics improvement for watching and managing the games would be nice. Not like an arcade game but watching where the ball goes, if it's a 6-3 groundout then watch the ball go to the ss, have him pick it up and throw to first. If it's a fly ball, have the outfielder run to its location, catch the ball and watch him throw it to the cutoff guy, etc. And if it's a strikeout or whatever, say so on the screen like it does for a fly ball or ground out.

Also make it easier to set up the graphics for the association. Like set up all those places the ball goes only once and then have all the other stadiums do it automatically. Currently it needs to be done with each park and that can get to be a pain.

Also, an option to just play one team against another in different years for only one game would be nice.

And lastly, make it a real windows game. So if the desktop res is set higher it will cover the whole screen at that resolution.

I wouldn't be good at beta testing so I'll leave that to others. But so far this looks really great.

1) The exrta minors is needed for "fantasy players". Two-levels is OK when using just real players. But it doesn't really allow you to experience the complete development of fantasy players.

2) I will not comment on the second paragraph. PureSim is not an arcade game.

3) This is impossible -- each park (or background) must be set-up on its own. Can't happen any other way. It would take tons of code to allow for that.

4) Why would you want to play some team "one time" every few years or so???

5) You can force 1024 if you want. I prefer 1024x768 myself.

1 Fine. I just commented that it's not something I'd use. I'm not against it. But I'm not that much of a hardcore stats person, even for fantasy players. Everybody's different. I might not much like what you love about the game and vice versa. Doesn't mean I'm right or you're right, just more interested in somewhat different aspects of the game.

2 No no you misunderstand. Not arcade. I don't mean I want to be able to do this stuff with a joystick or something. But if the program did this instead of just drawing a line to the location, I think it would be more fun to watch. And one of the things I really like doing with this game is watching a game play out.

3 Well if it can't be done then it can't be done. Just a suggestion.

4 Not every few years. I might just feel like playing the 63 Dodgers against the 56 Yankees. One game. I think it would be nice to have that option without setting up a whole association.

5 I know you can force 1024. And you might prefer that. Other people might not. I prefer a little higher. By making it a true windows game everybody can use whatever they want.

2 and 5 suffer from the same technical restriction - basically, the game is an Internet Explorer window, serving HTML files to the user.

Upside: it made it quick and easy for Shaun to make everything feel like a 'link'... because it actually is.

Downside: He doesn't have a graphical context with which to do things like the animations you describe in (2), and would need to provide HTML set up for each size you ask for in (5), as HTML doesn't do the 'shrink/expand to fit' layout management that you might get from a full GUI SDK (graphical user interface software development kit).

Yes, that is a good idea. Might not be that hard to implement.

About the minors, will you be able to train players at new positions like you could in the past? From the wording, it doesn't sound like it, and losing that would be a huge blow to the minors system.

I can understand the graphics limitations and that's ok. I made another suggestion a few months ago that others also seemed to like. So I'll repeat it here to keep it up front.

Just add a window for things like strikeouts, walks, etc to the screen when watching or managing a game. This would be similar to the window that says ground out or fly out. When I'm looking at the field and something like that comes up I miss it because I'm looking for the line, the next batter comes up and I'm trying to figure out what happened in the previous at bat. This hopefully shouldn't be difficult to implement. Thanks.

I actually already have implemented that. It makes it much more seamless to watch a game. If there is a BB or a K then the info window denoting so is presented on the field at home plate.

As my kids used to say ---- psych

LOL. With that feature alone, you just sold a copy of 2006.

(shuffles away) In the meantime I guess I'll have to live without it. Sniff.

Shaun, it just occured to me. Is it possible to add this for other things as well? Like "hit by pitch" and "runner steals second base" etc? The more things that can go in a window on the screen, the easier and more enjoyable it is to watch a game. Thanks.
