Just Finish reading Bloody Shambles Volume one.

While reading this book it reminded me that 488 Squadron Changed its Buffalo Fighters for Hurricanes in January 1942.
It occurs to me that the best way to enable this in witp is to make 488 Squadron a Royal New Zealand Air force Squadron.
Has anybody alreadly done this?

Langley, IF I understand you correctly that will not work. Upgrade of all British squadrons, regardless of the command are blocked until May 42. Same goes for the Dutch, one can not change them to Southwest Pac command and upgrade them.

He's suggesting making them a New Zealand unit under SEAC command. Change the nationality, not the HQ.

I think you can use the editor to make an upgrade other than the default...like the Brewster squadron that upgrades to Dakotas...

Looking up 488 Squadron on the web I found THAT IT WAS A ROYAL NEW ZEALAND AIR FORCE SQUADRON. It therefore should be able to reequip with Hurricanes in Jan 42 even in stock...except that stock has its nationality wrong.

It is actually 488 (New Zealand) Sqn RAF.

The Squadrons numbered 400 - 499 were Article XV units (in theory) manned by aircrew from the Empire Air Training Scheme. As such they were administered by the RAF and only attached to home countries where applicable i.e 452 & 457 Sqns when they moved back to OZ. maybe a better example is also in Malaya, 1, 2 & 21 RAAF Sqns were part of the RAAF. 453 (Australian) Sqn was also an Article XV and part of the RAF. Its all a plot to stuff up the neatly organised Americans!!

So WITP is technically correct, for a change.

You are correct Witp is correct for a change.
However as I pointed out at the start the only way I can think being able to upgrade 488 Sqn to Hurricanes in January 1942
is to make this Squadron a RNZAF outfit.
This is not as bad as it may seem since of the 27 Pilots in the squadron 25 were RNZAF members.

Well in WitP it has correct name but not nationality.

Look at No.25(?) Squadron RAAF - was RAAF squadron manned by dutch pilots. So it's named as RAAF and its nationality is Dutch (to draw pilots from Dutch pool). The same should be with 488 Sqn, its name depicts its RAF origin, but nationality should be NZ.

Hi,

yes it should have it's nationality changed to NZ , but remain an RAF squadron
also 453 Sqdn shoulds have australian nationality but be titled as an RAF squadron
457 squadron is listed as an RAAF squadron , should be RAF with Australian nationality
321 squadron should be Dutch nationality,RAF squadron
413 and 436 squadrons should be Canadian nationality, RAF squadrons

cheers
