what plane is the best for ASW role?
what about altitudine?

I seem to get most hits using DB. As for altitude i use 2000 feet for pure ASW missions.

Allied: PBY, Hudson, SBD, TBF, any medium bomber, later the PBM and 'naval version of the b-24'
Japan: any of the many floatplane units (Dave, Jake, Alf), Mavis. When you run out of land targets then army bombers like Mary, Lily etc can be used.

4000ft or lower.
Remember that they only search effectively to half what you set on the screen (set range 6 hexes - search only out to 3)
