Who is this "Log"? Is it the toy from Ren and Stimpy? I recall the jingle as:

It's log
It's log
It's big
It's heavy
It's wood
It's log
It's log
It's better than bad
It's good!

ICBMs take too long. The flaming sword of justice is swift and decisive, like my WitP game playing.

On an entirely different note: Ang Lee is apparently hoping to broaden the commercial appeal in a sequel to his Oscar winner:

I saw that a few days ago on another forum. (The pic, not the movie. )

Rtrapasso, was it you that sent back Oblivion because it wouldn't run for you? Big mistake man. I got my copy today, installed and started it up just to see how it would run. It auto-selected "medium" graphics for me and I was still ! I was literally just standing there turning around in circles looking at the scenery for like 15 minutes the first time I was outdoors. Ended up playing for three hours without realizing it. I'm seriously thinking of upgrading my video card just to see what this sucker looks like with the graphics at "high".

I'm running a 3.6 GHz, 2 gig RAM with a Nvidia GeForce 6600 video card. I think Speedy said he was running a 2.? GHz with a gig of RAM (which should be fine) but I don't think he said what kind of video card he has.

Let's see here, the box says for minimum specs: "Windows XP, 512MB system RAM, 2 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor, 128MB Direct3D compatible video card and DirectX9.0 compatible driver"

Recommended specs: "3 Ghz P4; 1 GB RAM; ATI X800 series, NVIDIA GeForce 6800 series, or higher video card".

There's a whole list of "supported video card chipsets", but if he wants to know those he's gotta ask.

So my video card is a little below "recommended" but it seems to be running fine for me so far and even with some of the bells and whistles turned off or down the graphics are spectacular.

Hi guys,

Haven't received my copy yet. Should be here within 2 days.

From what I hear my system may struggle but fingers crossed.

Have a 128MB Radeon card. Which meets the minimum specs!

Well, the readme includes a long list of things you can turn off in the game, mostly graphics options, to speed up your framerate. It also lists these Radeon cards as "supported":
ATI Radeon 9800 series
ATI Radeon 9700 series
ATI Radeon 9600 series
ATI Radeon 9500 series

I know Nvidia released a new driver about a week before Oblivion's release and have heard rumors that it included some improvements specifically for Oblivion, so you may want to see about updating your Radeon driver.

I assume I don't need to repeat the usual junk about de-fragging your HD and reducing background processes?

I run a GForce 6600GT, and am still on the fence about Oblivion... Will wait a bit longer and hear how people do with the thing...

Here's what Rob Brennan says he has:
quote:

Mine is slightly above min specs . 2.2 GHX Proc. 1 gig ram and a 500MB graphics card ( Nvidia) . the game is so slow even on min options its unplayable ! .. Be careful everyone .. im sending mine back asap !

So, your machine is about 1.6x faster, and i don't know how big a 6600 Nvidia card is or which exact Nvidia card Rob Brennan has. My current machine is probably even less capable than Rob's, so i suspect that it would run slower than molasses, if it would run at all...

My 6600GT card has 128Mb of DDR3 RAM, but cheaper versions exist with 128Mb of "normal" RAM. If Rob actually has a 512Mb Nvidia card, I sincerly doubt it's a lower-end 6***-series. More likely a 7800...

It sure sounds like Rob has a high end video card. So, unless there is some other problem (always possible), it sounds like machine speed and memory are going to be critical since Rob's video card *appears* to be even more capable than dtravel's, which runs well according to him.
