Stretching this out is just so much BS. The fans who've been patiently waiting for this game have been asked to bend over and spread their cheeks (Frank stopping working on this to work on Black Powder Wars). It's been excuse after reason after excuse.

Personally, I think we've got about as much chance of seeing this game out for real as we do of playing Duke Nukem Forever anytime this century.

Duke Nukem Forever.

There's a rumour Frank is reworking the whole thing to the tactical fps "Duke Nukem Forever Meets Eric von Ludendorff In Ypres"

You know what, David...if it happens, great...but we have no reason, at this point, to believe ANYTHING Matrix or Frank say about this game.

I'll believe it when I see it.

If you want it so bad, why don't you design the d&*( thing yourself - Frank is working on several other projects for Matrix right now and he'll get to this when he does...

Gawd, I can just imagine you on the floor beating your hands on the carpet whinning... I WANT IT I WANT IT....

The real issue is that Frank has never once said "this is on hold while I work on something else".

In my book its just very rude.

Alot of us want this game - but don't act like it is a God given right that we own it...

Matrix has stated before on the board that this is on hold while Black Powder finishes up ( for the most part ) - so just wait... Yes, if you want to bitch to Frank - go ahead - don't buy the game when it comes out or whatever - but don't act like he owes us a thing...

I don't understand why Frank has been tied up on a game(Black Powder) that wasn't his to start with. Wasn't this part of the deal with all of the new games at Matrix-they are being developed separately?

Well, I don't know... but it's like driving somewhere with your kids - hearing " are we there yet " every 5 min gets old!

I hope it comes out - and when it does I'll buy, but I'll survive until then...

His lack of presence here has been very disappointing.

I always enjoy reading this forum (Ok not really), but between Empires in Arms and Guns of August, the forums are quite similiar. Both games have taken ages to come out. Now if only I could take bets as to which one will come out first

I hope my 3 year old son takes up strategy games like these. That way when he comes to visit me in the retirement home he can lighten up my day by giving AARs. Sadly, that may be as close as I get to playing the games.

There seems to be a real chance that Duke Nukem Forever will be released this year--in fact, a sequel is now being planned.

Hopefully Guns of August will be out before the Duke Nukem Forever sequel

You'd think that with the current dearth of WWI strategy games or just WWI games that dont suck a$$ they would make this game a priority...but then i'm just a paying customer what would i know

I'm sorry guys, this is all my fault. You see, I payed in full for this game on July, 28th 2002 when it was named Trench. Catchy name eh. I hear that the cost of living is very reasonable in Canada, so obviously Frank has been able to sqeeze out almost four years of living on my $20.00US.

All kidding aside, at this point, I will simply be grateful when GOA is finally released; which just has to be soon. It just has to be.

I suppose they'll admit it's vaporware when it becomes vaporware. David H. has been honest enough to date I would expect he would say the truth rather than put up with the BS of promoting something for nothing. And then the fallout besides, t'aint good business.

Those of us on the outside have our priorities. Matrix et al have theirs, and the reasoning for them won't be obvious or apparent to us without all the information. After all, to us it is entertainment, albeit dearly desired, but to them it is a business decision. I do know how it is to balance desires with reality, professionally I deal with it every day, I'm an Architect - balancing tangible with intangible is bread and butter for me.

Give Matrix and the developer the benefit of the doubt, the track record is certainly there for both. My life will be richer for the addition of this game, but I certainly wont let it suffer for the lack of same.

Hi Guys

Look Frank Hunter makes the choices for what program he is going to work on first and how long. The truth of the matter is that We picked up Black Powder Wars because Frank told us about it. So please do not think we took him off of this game to work on something else because that is simply not true.

I have been getting Frank's update to Guns of August and working out the kinks in it. I keep you guys updated.

David

I was under the impression that I had mentioned that BoN had turned out to be a much bigger project than I had thought it would be. It and taking care of my youngest have left me with very little time to work on 1813, RFSTA4 and Guns of August. If I hadn't mentioned that previously I do apologize, I certainly should have.

On the subject of vapourware, its not up to Matrix. I'm an independent developer. If Matrix cancelled the game yesterday it wouldn't mean a thing since I'm not funded by Matrix.

Projects are cancelled when putting additional money into a project either doesn't guarantee completion or means costs will exceed assumed revenue. For an independent, cancelling a game is a non-issue since it means throwing away past work for no return. All games I've committed to doing will be finished as fast as I'm able. No other scenario would make sense for me.

I'm the only one that pays a cost when a game is delayed and therefore I assure you all that nobody wanted Guns of August released more in the past 2 years than me.

Frank -
I think the issue for this community really isn't so much the delay as the complete lack of communication. We understand that things happen. We understand that you want this out more than anyone. But it gets frustrating coming here week after week and finding absolutely no information. And so, the fresh posts with real information are most welcome. Thanks for those. I hope that the tone over the past several weeks can be put behind us. The easiest way to do that is to ensure that everyone is working from the same assumptions and expectations. Would it be possible for you to commit to provide an update once a month? Just any time during the month, but ensure that you come by and provide the latest update, whether it be good, bad or ugly, at some point during each and every month? If you can make that commitment and then be sure to come by and make at least those posts, then I think everyone will be a lot happier.

Thanks!

Wow, I can't help it but to feel very exclusive. Being one of the 21 worldwide feels like being a chosen one. (up until now it felt like one of the 21 idiots)

also: maybe information could be updated via the good old webpage dedicated to GoA?
