What happens with surviving AC fragments from a sunk US CV when the mother ship respawns? Do they have the same ID and rejoin the parent?

Should I preserve the fragments until the respawn, or just disband them into other air groups?

I'd either use them until they are down to a couple of aircraft and then disband them or disband them right away. They can't draw replacement aircraft, so if they consist of a lot of pilots, those pilots will just sit around playing cards.

Edit: I can't answer the first two questions. I play Japanese only and we don't have the luxury of respawning CVs.

The fragments are still 'associated' with the parent group. Once the CV comes back with the parent group (same ID as original) on board, the fragment will drift towards it.

However, it will quite awhile before that happens. Most worthwhile thing is to disband the fragment into another undersize CV group.

Thanks for the replies.

I was worried about corrupting the parent group and/or the group into which they would be disbanded, but I gather it's OK.

My CV groups (even fragments) cannot be disbanded. Are you guys telling me that yours CAN be disbanded?

There has to be another group/fragment with the same type of aircraft present at the base.

I've known this for a long time, but always wondered about the rule. What is the rationale for this rule? Why can't I disband a unit and send the planes and pilots back into the pool?

I don't think it has anything to do with 'rational' as much as it's an aspect of how the code works. Myself, i'd like to see the ability to disband a unit even if there isn't another similar plane type present to take up the pilots and planes.

However given the issues surrounding that aspect, such tampering might reintroduce more bugs than the feature is worth.

I think the disbanding restrictions were to prevent gamey tactics, such as disbanding aircraft from a base, like Clark Airfield, that is about to be overrun, and thus denying the enemy some VP's.
