Pauk has hit me at Narau Island and sent in some Betties to keep the pressure up on my CAP thats another 30 ish zero pilots dead in 2 days not bad going

72 Fresh Wildcats flew in off of Hornet I would like to see him try a sweep now !!!!

(Basically the entire USMC Fughter force is on Tarawa)

He failed to take Narau and he seems to have a force stooging about NE of Marshalls.

Given that I still have all 6 CV's I am guessing he is keeping KB united.

I sent another PT Boat Sqn to Narau the damage to his DD's was minimal.

I need to start thinking about ship upgrades.

Come October almost the entire US Pacific Fleet needs upgrading

New Mexico Class BB's get a major AA upgrade as do my USN CV's and most of my US CA's.

My plan is to rotate one BB and one CV back for refit when they arrive at the West Coast I will start a second TF back for refit I cannot afford to weaken myself to much.

This is the downside in making Suva my main fleet base.

How many AR's & AD's do you have and where are they at?? I would place 3 AR's at Sydney, Auckland, and Melbourne to assist in your upgrade. Maybe not the CV's and BB's, but for the number that will need go through in 10/42, it can be of great assistance.

Since I spent 2 1/2 years on USS Canopus AS-34, I am partial to having them assist with decreasing sys damage quickly.

Hehehe I had some fun today para drop on Majurocaptured the base.

Its nice to be able to return all the headaches Pauk has given me with Paras.

Lesson here you need to garrison all rear area bases.....

Re AR's not enough is more or less it.

I have 4 at Suva where Centpac is
4 at Pearl, 4 at San Fran and Seattle and 1 at San Diego.

I have a lot more about 5 months away and 2 coming in about 30 days

I am moving the three of them from Suva to Sydney and will do my cruiser and below upgrades there

3 from Pearl are moving to Suva and 3 from west coast are moving to Pearl.

I know this leaves me a little short on West Coast but with only 4 BB's under repair there at moment I can probably live with delaying the return to action of those 4 BB's by a month or two.

OK its been a couple of interesting turns.

China

My Army in the north surrendered today. Homan has fallen and I am in dissaray in northern China.

CENTPAC

narau was counter invaded by Pauk with KB in suport. I am still getting indications of a Tarawa invasion so I am sitting tight.

I mined Narau and have a reasonable garrison so I should be ok unless he reinforces.

If he doenst knock me off tarawa soon he will regret it.

SOPAC

Combined Pacific Fleet waits in anchorage at Suva

Norpac

Quiet

Australia

Quiet

Now I dont think I have made many mistakes in this game or done much wrong and yet I am facing almost 4:1 already.

I may need to take a risk in November/ December in order to avoid a points defeat.

OK he took North Australia but of all the moves he could have made that was the least threatening so I am slightly confused as to why I am so low on points.

Anyway it is nearly august in 60 days I start to get P38's then the fun really begins LRCAP for TF's is going to make me more aggressive.

Starting to reorganise and get ready for offensive ops. I started with SEAC. What is clear to me at least is that India is safe however projecting power is going to take a while.

No major reinforcements are expected for 6 months so I suspect at best a limited offensive towards Akyab is all that can be condoned at present.

Indian IV Corps will be targetted with the offensive I am pretty certain it will need to be overland as the RN is off gallavanting in the SOPAC so I estimate 2 months before I will be willing to commence the cross country march.

Interesting little fact

Indian/ US army and Aus Inf Divs all have 27 Combat Engineer Sqds (TOE)
UK Inf Divs only have 18
USMC Div has 121 !!!!!

Given the allies only get 3 US / 3 Indian and 1 x PS Combat Engineer Regt seperate and that the Indian Regts are normally out of combat after 1 fight through lack of replacements this makes rescuing that PS Scout regt probably the most valuable PI unit after the armour.

The Indian Eng are a tad misleading as the low replacement rate means they are difficult to replace with 5 Divs to grow.

This makes the 3 Chindit Bdes worth their weight in gold to the allies they have the 50% more combat enginners than a UK Division !!!!!

Just thought I would mention it !!!

Back to your AR reply.
Why have 4 AR's at Seattle and 1 at San Diego?? Why not use LA since it has a bigger shipyard?? Take 2 and sent them to Aukland along with 1 or 2 AD's to cover your DD upgrades.

In India
Do those troops in internal India have over 20k supply, a HQ, and stationed on a Manpower, HI, or Resource to speed up the re-build process?? Don't these factors effect the rebuild process?

Thanks for the observation on combat engineers. Just hope my Jap PBEM opponents don't read this AAR.

I will look at that tonight. I am note sure why I have let LA alone. Probably because I have very few ships on the West Coast in repair at the moment.

Re the rebuilding forces most are in plentifull supply and are in range of a command HQ

I have 4 Bdes rescued from Malaya covering North Inda of them only FMSV is at full strength and the other 3 are not being rebuilt (% strength is misleading as most of unit is support squads)

In West I have 2 Divisions being built up and 2 rescued Bdes 22nd Aus and 28th Indian. The other 2 rescued Bdes are in garrison and will not be rebuilt

In East I have 2 Divisions building but have no rescued forces.

The remaining 2 Malay rescued Bdes are at full strength and are part of my field force.

Of the 10 Bde cadres rescued from Malaya 5 are shells in garrison only, 1 is full strenght but securing Karachi.

Leaving 4 that will be rebuilt and eventually used in action 2 x Indian and 2 x Australian Bde's (Given my desire to get 23rd and 17th Infantry Divs operational ASAP I will probably turn off replacements to all other Indian Units for a few months).

With the immediate threat over to India I have time before my late 42 Arakan offensive.

I am also strongly considering pulling Indian III Corps out of India and sending the whole Corps against Perth.

It will weaken IV corps assault on Arakan but it would facilitate the re conquest of Australia.

It is clear that Aus 1st Army with only one Corps under command and with 1st Aus Div wrecked and 3rd Aus down to one shell Bde the Australian are not going to be strong enough especially with my committments in CENTPAC those troops will have to come from somewhere

Some more info as you can see I am short of troops for any kind of offensive but Perth has to be retaken.,

The more I think of it the more I like the idea of sending an Indian/British Corps to assist with the reconquest.

The germ of an idea I have for this game is not the typical 43 allied attack on Mandalay I have done that to death and want to try somethign different.

If I pulled 1 strong Corps out of India to assist my ANZAC forces I would have a strong force to attack into Timor and Java after reconquering North Aus. Without jeapordising my SOPC or CENTPAC offensives

It is to early to be certain yet but it does have some promise. I am going to think it through a little more.

I am slightly worried about NZ and will be reinforcing in the near future

Andy

Quiet few turns.

The RN Eastern Fleet has been weakened to strngthen the RN Pacific Fleet I only have HMS Resolution, HMS Valiant (Flag), 5 Destroyers, 7 Flower Class Corvettes and 14 Bathusrt/Bangor class MSW's.

That is weak !!!!

Joint Pacific Fleet on the other hand... 7 Fleet Carriers, 1 Light Carrier, 8 Battleships, 1 Battle Cruiser, 18 Heavy and 23 Light Cruisers and 87 Destroyers is powerfull (not counting 2 BB's and 1 Fleet Carrier at Sydney or 1 Fleet Carriers and 2 BB's at Pearl !!!!)

The 10/42 upgrade cycle is close where a lot of my ships will need to rotate I am switching a New Mexico Class BB from Suva for an R Class BB from Sydney

POW is at 13 sys now at Sydney another month or so and she should be operational

2. Assault on Lunga
3. Bomb North Burma
4. Air Campaign on Marshalls
5. Re Invade PM
6. Sit tight until P38's arrive

Quiet turn I am surprised Pauk is being so quiet.

I am about a month from my CV's have a full complemement of Seafires.

He must be planning something big. He has time for one more offensive thats an easy win before I start to compete with P38's where will he strike....

It is only August 42 so I have a long way to go before I am competative...

This feels very weird I havent lost a Carrier so the Japanese so far have been quite quiet for a while I wonder if he has decided to wait for me if so it will be a quiet 3 months as I am not going to attack until I have P38's at least.

Quiet on all fronts again I wonder what he is waiting for.

I am surprised that he isnt attacking. In 6 weeks or so the balance of power will shift and I will start to get P38's and thats the begining of the end for the Japanese

I guess not losing my CV's has put a crimp on his options (I am down 4 CV's because I havent lost any )

I sent some paras in to hit Makin for the hell of it !!!!

I over concentrated my airpower in India where it is of limited use. I really thought Pauk would try to attack me there.

It is unfortunate that my Airpower is in India and my sea power in SOPAC....

I am considering many options

1. Bypass North Aus straignt into Bali/Java with support from India
2. Take Perth then North India
3. Dracula Seaborne invasion of Burma
4. Kwajalein and marshalls campaing
5. Lunga and Solomons
6. Port Moresby
7. Andaman Islands

All option are on the table at the moment

Longer term I have a really cunning plan that I am considering;P

Andy

Ouch ouch ouch

I got lazy and my Wellingtons paid the price :(

Pagan raid today was expensive. Need to rethink a little if Pauk is going to defend the airspace.

Once I know where he has based his fighters I will pound it to scrap.

I will need to keep pounding Akyab anyway to try and allow Operation Typhoon to succeed.

I have a very very cunning plan for 43 in this theatre when I have it worked up fully and have identified the required forces I will lay it all out.

The pre requisites of the plan are a landing at Perth (Operation Squall) and Andaman Islands (Operation Buccaneer)

Planning is moving forward for all three operations which will be carried out with minimal force to preserve my Carrier Force for the real showdown in CENTPAC

I am also starting to think once more about attacking Lunga (Operation Tempest)

Having focussed the IJN's attention on the Marshalls and Gilberts its time to change the axis of attack I want to be ready when my P38's arrive.

IMHO concentrating on SRA is the best option. Sure, he doesn't have to reinforce his pacific islands, but in SRA your LBA can be much more powerful.

IJA reinforced the base despite my LR CAP

Ah well it forces him to react again for minimal cost and investment.

The more I stretch him the better things are...

Small problem with my Destroyers.

A. S Class really stink !!!
B. So do FD'ers but at least they have Torpedoes
C. Most of my Fleet DD's upgrade in October 53 out of 75 DD's go in for refit.....

I would kill for some Tribals to give the RN DD force some bite. IMO the best RN Destroyers all retained for the Med and Home Defence unfortunately

I get stuck with Electras (minus Radar sets) the J's P's and Aruntas are ok but I only have 7 of them..

I am operating 9 x 8 DD Flotillas screening my fleet with only 3 spares to rotate for upgrade.

I may need to just accept that October is going to be a quiet month for me as I go through an upgrade cycle
