Computer Game -- Age of Rifles

Boardgame -- Musket and Pike (old SPI game dealing with tactical warfare in the 1500s and 1600s)

RPB -- I've only played D&D, but Tekumel: Empire of the Petal Throne looks very interesting.

Tabletop -- Man of War (Warhammer at sea)

In the bath -- Frogman (when I was about 6 and able to actually swim to the bottom of the tub with a snorkel and frogman's mask.

Don't know if it qualifies as a "wargame" at this forum, but I continue to play Cavedog's "Total Annihilation" to this day...

2. Boardgame: Hmm, St.Nazaire, an AH solitaire game - my mates thought real-boardgames-for-men-not-pansy-risk was to complicated/boring!

3. RPG: CRPG - Planescape: Torment. RPG - WFRP

4. Tabletop: Ehh - Bloodbowl, propably - also dabbled in WH40K and WFB

5. In the bath: What bath?

You got something against RTS? TA's my favourite RTS too but I wouldn't name it my favourite (war)game though it comes close.

Don’t blame ravinhood ,he is just one of the many victims of the RTS crimes.

The developers turned RTS into a four letter word ,not war gamers.

Anyone who indulges in RTS is not a wargamer and is a traitor to the cause of keeping wargaming alive.

"RTS" itself is a blatant lie, because anything that takes place in "real time" would take too long to be a playable game. "RTS" just describes game engines that allow the game to play while the poor wargamer has to sit and fiddle with his dingy - i mean, "joystick" - in order to try and keep up with events that are being depicted in a time flow so much faster than real time that the player cannot keep up with the computer's superior informatiion crunching speed.

Just imagine Napoleon - "Jeez, I gotta figure out in ten seconds how to counter Charles's apparent thrust at my left flank, a move that took two days in reality, whatever that used to be before I became a RTS general."

In that case I'm traitor and I'm sure I'm not only one around here.

What game are you referring to? Is it Fields of Glory by MicroProse? How about Total War and Close Combat series? I thougth those games are reasonably close of real time and not too long either.

[edit]
Even though games like Command & Conquer and Total Annihilation aren't realistic (in time or otherwise), they are fun to play and that is most important thing of any game.

Very difficult to say just one...

1. TS's Battleground series - it was the search to find out if the games were ever going to be updated that lead me to Matrix...

2. AH's ASL

3. have yet to delve into this genre

4. FASA's BattleTech by default; only tabletop I've earnestly played

5. "Battlefleet" - had a nice collection of plastic warships as a kid...

Ask me tomorrow and numbers 1 & 2 will be different. Avalon Hill broke me into war gaming when as a ten year old I found "Gettysburg" in my Aunt's hallway closet; now a sentimental favorite. As soon as I figure out how to maneuver a &*%$ phalanx around a battle field, TS: ATG has the potential to move up the charts...
