So, is this something out of your garbled mind or did the British really contemplate an 18" gunned BB?

Oh, that's quite historical. Just after WWI, the British designed a battlecruiser class called the G3 (9*16-inchers, 32 knots) and a companion battleship class called the N3 (9*18-inchers, 24 knots). Both were cancelled due to the Washington treaty.

The G3's do... The BC's were considered the ones most likely to be built, so Tanker stuck them in.

Heh... In "Super Dreadnoughts", you get three G3's (Invincible, Trafalgar and Indefatigable) and three Hoods (Hood, Anson and Howe)...

Folks, i am taking cover now as a tornado watch is in effect - we seem to be in the path of a possible tornado ... if you don't hear from me for a while, hopefully it is just because the power or wireless tower is out...

Whew - it looks like it hit just to the west and north of us - the big rotating red circle on the doppler weather radar went over Argyle, the town just to the NW of us, and has swept off to the NE. Might get rain, hail, lightning. The towns hit haven't reported an actual tornado - just high straight-line winds and softball-size hail.

A second storm is supposed to go through about 2 a.m. - i am hoping it will also miss.

Interesting to see what we grabbed to save when we thought we were about to be hit - the dogs, laptops, emergency equipment (flashlights, windup radio, walk-talkies).

My wife had subconsciously put the TV remote in the shelter...

You sure that wasn't you with the TV remote? That is supposed to be the man's domain after all.

Yeah, Robert, that sounds sorta suspicious, you blaming it on the wife...

Nah - it was her, i actually witnessed the event (to my amusement, but didn't comment on it). About 10 minutes later, she got this confused sort of look on her face (we were watching local weather radar) and said "Did I put the remote in with the emergency stuff??"

TV watching is mostly her domain. i will watch movies on a movie channel, and that is about it (i watch one "regular" TV show per week, and that's it...)

BTW - they are forecasting some similar weather for tonight... Let's hope nothing so bad.

Worst stuff that hit was winds (destroying some trailers, buildings) and "softball sized" hail (about 10 cm, i guess - for our European friends.) Getting hit by one of those would ruin your whole day. Some injuries reported, but no fatalities (AFAIK).

no,...."TAB" is traditional. Diet Coke is the new generation along with Coke Zero

i meant "traditional" for purposes of this experiment - i.e., it worked once, so people keep on using it (without experimenting with other sodas).

BTW - this MIGHT be a video of it (at work, so can't see it directly):

Yup - pretty good show.

Finally got to watch this masterpiece - no shaking required!! They took pains to drop all the Mentos in at once - and he had a fountain of Diet Coke that was quite impressive... there was about 1-2 inches left at the bottom after it spewed about 12 feet into the air!

i just showed this to my wife - she said she had seen this on the local news as well as Discovery Channel News. Discovery Channel tried this experiment with about 6 different kinds of soda - Diet Coke worked the best.

According to the chemist NPR talked to, it is a matter of the carbonization collecting on the irregular surfaces of the Mentos...

Next time Nik says he is sitting, reading and drinking diet Coke, we'll have to convince him to swallow a few Mentos!!

Tempting, very tempting, but having seen him, I suspect he's never touched anything "diet" in his life!

Well, you guys finally convinced me to watch the video but the link doesn't work for me. I get an "unrecognized file type" message and am asked if I want to save it. Someone got another link?
