I thought the Bismark was captured and re-named.......Iowa.

Why would anyone want to do that? I have been to Iowa (under duress-my brother in law lives there) and it is not worth naming a garbage scow after.

How does one know if they have a concussion? I got smacked from behind pretty good while driving to work this AM. Headache started almost immediately. Now starting to feel a little dizzy.

Look in a mirror. If your pupils are different sizes, you have a concussion.

Sounds more like a neck injury. I don't think concussions cause pain. See a chiropractor. They work wonders.

Then see a lawyer.

Puppils are ok.

It's odd that I'm feeling aches and pains, but the car was hardly dented. Must have been tense thinking about work.

Nah, it would have taken the old fart that ran into me half an hour to get out of his car. Truth told the guy probably shouldn't be driving.

AARP's position is that you can take his license away when you pry it from his cold dead fingers.

I teaching a defensive driving course as a side business. Ironically the safest age group is 55-64. 18 years olds have a crash risk 10 times higher. After 64 it goes up but does not reach the risk of 18 year olds until age 80.

Almost every state has manadory retesting on it's books but none do it unless a little birdie sends a letter to the DMV reqesuting that someone be reteseted.

I would rather pry it from AARPs cold dead fingers.

That's interesting, but really not surprising to me, I find 55-64 year olds to be pretty safe drivers. They are calm, mature and they don't have a lot of bratty kids in the car yelling at them while they drive.

Colorado has toyed with the idea of starting a driver reporting list. Citizens can call in and report someone's bad driving to the state. They themselves have to be willing to go on record though giving their name and other information. The idea is when road rage hits someone, get them to reach for their cell phone instead of a gun. I guess after 3 bad reports the state sends a letter saying . After another 3 the state sends out a couple of state patrol men to your home to say . If things continue badly there can be other consequences like defensive driving courses. I personally like the idea.

Law in New Jersey is that 10% get retested every year. I have been driving for 21 years and have never heard of it happening without a letter to DMV.

By the way, that same study showed that 25% of all 16 year old drivers will have a crash in their 1st year of driving. My newphew in Iowa has a permit at 14 1/2 so I am sure he will wreck the car before he gets a license.

I never understood this, just how out of it are 16 year olds? I didn't have my first accident until I was 25 (not my fault) and I didn't cause my first fender bender until I was 32. On the other hand when I was 18 a cop pulled me over and told me I had committed 6 moving violations in 3 blocks. When you're young like that it's not as much a matter of obeying the laws as it is just don't hit stuff. Reflexes and mental sharpness should compensate for poor obedience of the laws.

The other day, a 27-year old father and his daughter (age 7 MONTHS) were killed in a hit and run in this country.

They'd been walking along the side of the road, on the correct side, minding their own business, when a 19-year old superman driver plowed them down (you have to be 18 to drive in this country). The 19-year old had been doing 65 mph in a 30 mph zone, and what was his excuse for murdering these two? The 27-year old turned out to be deaf, so it was his own fault that he and his little girl died.

I stand by what I said: they don't care.
