Hello,
I am following these developments involving Harpoon 3, and have a quick question.

On the Advanced Gaming Systems website, specifically:

http://advancedgaming.biz/index.php?cevent=page.view&id=41

that deals with the community beta of Harpoon 3 - Advanced Naval Warfare, down under "Feadtures" it says:

Features
The most realistic, modern, naval warfare simulation publicly available.
Derived from Harpoon Classic, and updated from Harpoon II.
Based on Larry Bond\\\'s Harpoon 3rd Edition Rules.
Microsoft Windows compatible: 98, ME, NT4, 2000, and XP.
Apple Macintosh compatible: System 7.1 or greater, OSX support. My emphasis added
Unlimited combat areas - the entire world map is included!
Multiple databases, many user created.
Scenario Editor allows unlimited scenario creation.
Two Platform Editors allow creating/changing of platforms, bases, sensors, weapons, and loadouts.
More sophisticated simulation code than Harpoon Classic

Of course, I am wondering if the line containing "Apple Macintosh compatable" is still in the works for this Matrix edition?

No flames please. I do have a Windows machine, just curious of the Mac compatability.

Tom

Look at this message posted to the AGSI forum.

Apparently, there will be no Macintosh version of ANW.

Hello Tom,

the page mentioned above is about the current release of Harpoon 3, not the imminent release of Harpoon 3 ANW. The "COMMUNITY BETA of Harpoon 3 Advanced Naval Warfare (v3.7) - See Forums" is just a pointer to the forums for people that want to take part in the beta. This page was recently updated and I see that it might be a bit confusing. I will forward that information so the page can be cleared up a bit.

So to sum it up, there unfortunately won't be a Macintosh version of Harpoon 3 ANW as the amount of work that would have needed to go into it stood in no relation to the number of potential customers. However, we have received reports of some Macintosh users that managed to run Harpoon 3 ANW in VirtualPC mode. (see http://forum.advancedgaming.biz/viewtopic.php?t=839 )

Sorry for any confusion the page might have caused.

Cheers,
JP

Too bad. A Mac-native wargame would be really welcome. But I guess there's got to be some reason to keep the ol' PC around, and wargaming is the best I've come up with so far!

I should add that on the newer Intel-based Macs, Apple is releasing Boot Camp to allow dual-boot OS X and Windows. This should work far better than 'Virtual PC' as Windows will run natively instead of as an emulation. Of course, you still need a new Mac....
