In V-8.03 the code was changed to allow loaded infantry to take losses when the vehicle (normally a tank) they are riding on is fired on. I fully agree with this change, but wonder if it didn't have an un-intended consequence.

In a recent game I noticed that infantry carried inside armored vehicles (halftracks), were taking heavy losses (4-6 men killed) to fire that had no effect on the vehicle, it missed. If the vehicle is damaged or destroyed I can see these results, but when the vehicle is not hit and the troops inside take losses seems a bit much to me. Normally if is very hard to get infantry to dismount from inside an armored vehicle when under fire unless the vehicle is badly damaged or destroyed. This is just human nature, why leave a seemingly protected area for a hostile one? It takes very experience troops to understand they are normally safer outside the vehicle than inside it.

I also have noticed a tendency for infantry to dismount from a vehicle when passing a hidden enemy. The enemy unit does not fire on it, but the troops dismount anyway without spotting the hidden unit. This seems like a bug to me.

I've only had that happen to me with snipers, the troops un-ass the vehicle, don't spot the sniper until next turn and the vehicle keeps right on it's merry way.

This "feature" or "bug" what ever you call it has been in the SP series forever.
I remember it in SP3 for sure

This is usually the case when the "ambushing" unit fails their check; the aborted assault causes the enemy transport unit to unload, as if an actual assualt were taking place. Remember, when you assault a vehicle with passengers, the passengers dismount to help defend the vehicle.

I have seen this work two ways. One way is to pass a hidden unit normally a sniper or recon tm in the adjacent hex, but I have also seen it happen when the hidden unit was two hexes away. It always seems to occur at ranges of two hexes or less.

I did not notice it happening until I installed V8.03.
