I suspect that there is a step I'm missing.

Prior to the Amateur Draft, I'm using the players interface to add historical players to the draft pool. They seem to import just fine - and the other teams are selecting them with their draft picks. None of them show up, however, when I'm looking at the draft pool to make my selections. (And I know there are still many that should still be available. In fact, if I do an expansion after the draft they show up as available during the expansion draft.)

Is there a step I'm missing, or am I doing things out of sequence?

Thanks for any pointers...

I'm bumping this back up.

I still haven't figured out if this is a bug or I'm just doing something dumb or missing something obvious.

:)

I'll bump this one more time in hopes of someone offering me a suggestion. I'm still seeing this every season. Import some extra historical players and the other teams get to draft them - but they never show up in my draft lists.

i noted in anouther thread that players imported or created actually dont appear in off season draft and are available only as free agents after the draft. Ive yet to see a situation where a players was picked in the draft after being imported.

your seeing a player picked in the expansion draft is not actually a draft but rather a free agent signing.

hope this helps

I'm certain that I'm seeing them being drafted by the teams selecting _before_ me in the draft. And at the end of the draft, many of them seem to be on the other teams. Unless I'm totally confused, it appears that only the human controlled team doesn't see them.

What would happen, then, if I import them at the very end of the previous season? Maybe I'll try that next and see if I can pick them in the following draft. (I'm doing all of this is an experimental test season so I can play around some...)

i have always created or imported new players at the point after the world series has been completed and never seen these players drafted, have only seen them as free agents.

if you want, try and go to one of the AI teams who youve seen draft one of these players and check their draft history to be certain that they didnt sign them as free agents.

Ok, that was a good suggestion.

I just went in and looked at a few of the imported players and their transaction history:

Ken Griffey: 11/1/1924 1925 Draft - Signed in round 1 by Kansas City
Don Gullet: 11/1/1923 1924 Draft - Signed in round 1 by Pittsburgh
Vida Blue: 3/31/1924 Signed in round 14 of the 1924 expansion draft

That would seem to indicate that I'm right, that the computer teams are in fact drafting the imported players - both in the normal draft and in an expansion draft; but that the players are not being made available to a human controlled team.

hmm, my situation must only happen to created players.

seems to be a flaw indeed, but it will make it harder for you to match the AIs drafting ability

One other thing I was curious about is if they could have been picked up as free agents "during" the draft. I'd never checked to see if you could do that - but you can't. So it appears that it is a bug for Shaun to look at.
