If you could have one Allied A/C that is not currently in any of the Mods or stock what would it be and why?

If there is an aircraft in one mod that isn't found anywhere else and you think it should be, that qualifies too.

Not sure what is in every mod, but the plane I'd like to see added most would be the P-38L. Not 100% on this, but I think it was the most commonly produced variant.

And any scenario that goes to late 45/46:
F8F Bearcat
Typhoon/Tempest
P-80 Shooting Star
The Japanese Jets (not sure what they were called)

Oh goody...more planes that can shoot down 50 Zero's in under a minute.

F8F would be interesting but how would one rate it? Slightly better than the Hellcat?

Japanese jets were basically modified Me-262's, I forget their names at the moment. While some were made by their surrender some people might disagree with their addition for a million reasons.

Seems like a waste of time to add planes that are either too late for any action (the war is over already) or simply aren't needed, do you really need those extra 4 kills per lost plane/pilot?

Well, if i wanted to shoot down 50 Zero's in under a minute I'd pick the F-86 Sabre.

I'll agree with you that they are not needed in the game (except maybe the P-38L), but it would certainly make it more historically accurate if they were availible in realistic amounts (no 5,000 P-80's sweeping the skies of Japan daily).

As for how one would rate an F8F, I'm not sure of its exact specs but I think somewhere around the same as a Hellcat, maybe a little faster, more manueverable with an excellent climb rate?

Anyway without giving too much away, I will say I've been playtesting BigB's upcoming mod, and the air combat in that has very believable outcomes. Might be worth looking at if you're tired of one-sided slaughters on both sides.

All of these already exist in various mods. And the Japanese jet was called the Nakajima Kikka.

The first version didn't, that's true. It was very quickly redesigned to carry 2*30mm cannon.

Avro Anson.

Like the the Fairey Battle it was used by the Empire Air Training Scheme but unlike the Battle, the Anson equiped front line squadrons engaged on coastal ASW patrols for a time.

eg:
No.66 Squadron May'43 - Jan'44 Bundaberg* QLD
No.67 Squadron Jan'43 - Nov'45 Melbourne VIC (Laverton)
No.71 Squadron Jan'43 - Aug'44 Lowood QLD, Coffs Harbour NSW
No.73 Squadron May'42 - Aug'44 Cootamundra NSW, Nowra NSW

* Home of.... (shameless plug!!!)

Please don't perpetrate that myth. It was completely indigenous.

In fact, it looked a bit like an FW-190 at one stage of design....

The F8F was a point defense interceptor--the lightest airframe that could be powered by its engine. High RoC, not a large bombload nor long range. The F7F was an anti-bomber destroyer (like the Tomcat). The F4U and F6F were traditional multi-purpose high-performance fighters, with the F4U being particularly useful as a fighter bomber. The F6F was more forgiving in carrier operations.

The Sea Fury was the naval version of the F86.

You pays your money and makes your choice.

the Bearcat made a respectable Fighter Bomber, the French used them in Vietnam in the ground attack mode. Not long range though and the French didnt have the belly tanks. With Internal fuel it could go 1100 miles and with a belly tank over 1900 miles.

The Hawker Sea Fury is a totally different aircraft from the North American FJ-2 Fury which was an F-86E development

I think the Sea Fury he is referring to is the Hawker Sea Fury (as used by the Royal Australian Navy post war). It is the naval version of the Hawker Fury which itself is a light weight radial engined derivative of the Tempest series.

A very nice machine....

Well if you are looking for a late war USN aircraft, go for a Skyraider.

Don't limit the discussion to late war. There are plenty of underrepresented Aircraft in the game now that had many variants. Some were more common in the PTO, but due to limited slots are not in the game now.

The Japanese Jets (not sure what they were called)

They made a prototype inferior knockoff of the ME-262 that made it to the equivalent of "x-designation" that they were unable to build owing to lack of strategic resources. The also had an ME-163 knock off prototype that never flew. Of the two, it's more plausible that they'd have been able to build ME-163s because they were designed not to use strategic resources and had a very simple hypergolic rocket motor.

Youd also want the A1 Skyraider in the late war US OOB if it went to late 1945-1946+.

Actually, the Shusui (Jap Komet) did fly. All of one time...
