Oh sure...tease him into unforgiveable blasphemies.....that's a nice friend.

I'm afraid you will be sent to the Comfy Chair for a time, Terminus, until your heresies have run their course.

Well, since I'm going to The Comfy Chair anyway, I'm already in deep doo-doo...

Yes, TOAW III is excellent. It covers battles from WWI onward to 2015, with a couple of Civil War scenarios thrown in for good measure. Scale goes from 2.5-50km/hex and from platoon to corps. Basically, it tries to be all things to all gamers, and actually succeeds to a very great extent, which is rare. Supposedly, it even has a passable to good AI. It certainly kicked my butt the first few games, but that's not saying much...

Hmmm, interesting... I seem to be losing posts...

Anyhoo, their problem is that I've got the key to The Comfy Chair storage facility...

Did she wet herself too?

I remember one of my cats got the handle of a plastic grocery hooked around his neck and under one foreleg. Of course, a big rattly thing chasing you no matter how fast one runs is a scary thing indeed! When we finally caught him (that took a while), the bag was more of a water balloon.....

Hilarious. You have to picture a straight stairwell with two rooms to each side at the top, and every few seconds a cat and plastic grocery bag would zip between them.

Mine did the same thing with a handled bag. 2am he gets the thing stuck and runs around the house trying to get it off. He comes into the bedroom with just the handels left around his neck and almost gets shot since I have now woken up and think I have a burglar in the house.

Same cat used to turn wall light switches on and off in the middle of the night. I swear he was trying to get himself shot.

Has anyone noticed that T is pleasant and witty? I suspect he may have been abducted by aliens and this is an imposter. Either that or his exams are over.

It's because he finally has a comfortable chair to sit in.

The witty part is pretty normal for him, but the pleasant part....yeah, that's serious.

The major worry for him is that his posts made while in the Comfy Chair won't count.

My exams are not over; that's on Thursday. I have, however, finished prepping for them...

What do you mean you are finished prepping for them..  I never finished until the night before.  My brother knew one person in his residence hall who pulled an all nighter then fell asleep 30 minutes before the test in that little room.  The professor took pity on him and let him take a makeup test.

Thread.

Still bored.

Started reading a book called An army at dawn about the Torch operations in north africa, I knew that the allies took a bit of a kicking, but i hand't realised quite how badly they went.

The its quite shocking how inept some of the leadership was, from Ike down in appears that most people has no idea what the hell was going on.

Morning tithe!!

More on the rattlesnake incident:

i saw pics of the incident (later portions thereof) - looks like was Western Diamondback Rattler, about 3' long (it was longer than the 34" door it was seen passing in the video). It might have even been the same one that was in our barn last year, although my wife is clearly unwilling to believe this.

It looked quite a bit larger and thicker than the one i encountered.

A similar description is given in Douglas Porch's The Path to Victory (The Mediterranean Theater in World War II)

Porch is not all that kind to Ike, describing him as rather aloof from operational planning and more concerned with promoting Allied unity and making sure no mud on his stars. (Another paragraph akins Ike to a "CEO" of a company vs. a real general) Porch doesn't discount the importance of Ike's diplomatic efforts however but when discussing the issues revolving around the actual invasion, its not pretty. It would appear fortunate that the landings were mostly unopposed and lends weight to Porch's thesis that the theater was decisive for the Allies (vs. the traditional "distraction" or "side show" that some US histories ascribe to the theater) because it represented an invaluable training and practice ground for a fledgling force (Britian included during the early days vs. Rommel) allowing the Allies to hone their skills particularily in amphibious operations. The author feels that had Overlord (Roundup/Bolero) been attempted immediately without that practice, it could have and most likely would have ended in disaster.

Torch and the subsequent campaign in western North Africa were invaluable, because it put the spotlight on a lot of flaws in the pre-war US Army, including both bad tactics and bad leadership. As per normal, a lot of footsloggers had to die in order for those lessons to be learned, but what else is new?

For an object lesson in tactical stupidity, look at the charge (and destruction) of 2/1st Armored at Sidi Bou Zid.
