Does the WitP allow for US Destroyer conversions, specifically Flush Decks to APD and Benson and Bristol Class Destroyers to DMS?

http://www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/USN/ships/ships-dd.html#mahan

I guess I'm a little bored at work today.

you can convert flushdeckers to DMS.....

Send them to SF, disband them, select in ships in port screen and push "convert to DMS"

There were a lot more Flush Deckers converted to APD then DMS, I'd prefer to have both. Is that a field we can edit in the database?

HOW, exactly? That functionality seems to be missing from my installation of WitP...

Damn, I wish the Japanese could do that. Japanese APDs are the best ASW platforms the Japanese have.

I think he meant to say that you can utilize them as DMS's.
Just put them in a MWS TF and charge them into a minefield.

AFAIK you could never convert to APD or DMS... They're either coded to do so or not, but the player cannot change that like you can with an AK...

Correct. The only non-AK ships the Allies can convert are US PG's into AGP's... I don't know what WW was on what he made that post, but it might not be illegal in his country...

I reject your reality, and subsistude it for my own....

I really thought I had seen the flushdekker upgrade option, must have been confused with "auto upgrading" DD's......

Hopefully it is easy for Matrix to fix the conversions since the code already exists. Here's my idea.

Flush Decks to APD, DM or DMS. Conversion should be available 12/7/41. The Manly Class APD, the Dorsey Class DMS and the Gamble class DM started the war as converted Flush Decks. The Allied player should have the ability to continue the conversions as he likes. Two months should be allowed for DMS/DM and 6 months for an APD. Also note the poor forgotten Flush Decks should have a 4/42 AA/Radar upgrade like their conversions get.

Benson and Bristols to DMS after the 1/44. In fact all of the destroyers in this class should already be DMS that arrive in 1945. Most of this class was converted to DMS after D-Day on the Atlantic coast before transfer to the Pacific. The Navy converted half the class (that survived) by the end of the war to DMS. Of course it would only be useful for late war scenarios. There should not be any other change in armament other than to change designation to DMS.

Nautilus, Narwhal and Argonaut should have significant capacity increases in spring 42 refits. Should be large enough to carry 1/2 a company of combat troops so maybe 160. They loose torp relads and aft tubes and mines. Nautilus and Norwhal landed the 7th Infanty Scout company on Attu in 5/43. I fixed my database for these but it would be nice to have it fixed in the stock scenarios.

Ok how about this one:

BECAUSE WE ARE ALWAYS SO STONED ON WEED and so genetically f*cked up from eating tulip bulbs during the war AND NORMALLY CAN'T UNDERSTAND EACHOTHER WHILE DANCING ARROUND on our dikes IN OUR WOODEN SHOES, SO WE SHOUT A LOT. Not forgetting we get HIT by windmills al lot over here too.

Better ??

All Flush deck destroyers that converted to APD's historically, upgrade in game. They simply need to be disbanded in a port with a repair shipyard in the month (or anytime afterwards) the conversion is available. I added this ability way back in version 1.2 or so... (such a long, long time ago...)

from memory I might have forgot 1 or 2 but this is close.

10/42 upgrade of Waters, Talbot and Dent
11/42 upgrade of Sands
12/42 upgrade of Brooks and Humphreys
01/43 upgrade of Schley, Ward, and Gilmer
02/43 upgrade of Crosby, Kilty
04/43 upgrade of Kane
05/44 upgrade of Rathburne

We did not add the DD to DMS conversions because DD's already can sweep mines but it could be done in editor if you wanted to, You modders can simply look at how I did the DD/APD conversions and do the same for DD/DMS.

Taction - Actually, I think their capacity might actually go -down- in game. I understand what you're saying (and agree with you). But if I recall, the capacity of a sub corresponds to the number of torps it carries, unless you specifically override the number in the DB by adding a "capacity". But most of the USN subs actually lose capacity with the upgrades - when the get a radar set, the often lose a salvo of torps, and thus their capacity goes down. I'm not saying I agree with it. I'm saying that's the way it is.

Correct. Using the 'database editor' you can see that 'Flush deck' DDs have different upgrade paths (see different class numbers). Indirectly you can influence how many are available to upgrade to DMS on a predetermined date - BUT ONLY BEFORE YOU START A SCENARIO
