Its my practice to investigate a little more before purchasing. I've never owned this game I like operational, strategic level and tactical.(maybe tactical a little more).

Those who own this title, could you give me a good reason for buying it?

Good reason?

It is THE etalon by which all other turn based wargames are measured. Period. If you can have only one wargame till the end of your life - then TOAW is strong contender (for me, WITP, as well).

If you never owned any of the previous versions you absolutely positively should not miss this one. Quality of scenarios is all over the scale, but eventually, with some effort  you can find solid scenario describing just about any battle that you can remember.

Oleg

I've owned this game 3 times, OPART, COW and now OPART III. I finally got chance to sit down and play for about 4 hours uninterupted (well almost) and Matrix has done a heckuva job with this. Buy it!

If you love operational level wargames and dont mind the good old UGOIGO turn-based system, then you wont regret buying it.

While there are really a lot of scenarios and this would be reason enough,
one has to add that the gameplay is of top quality as well.
Buy it!

Damn Oleg that would be a tough call............WITP, HTTR/COTA or this one.....a fella could end up pulling what little hair he's got left trying to figure that one out !

Heh! With the 1/4 inch of hair I have on my head, that would be a problem. Seriously, though, for me it's WitP, with TOAW close enough behind to grab onto WitP's coat tails...

I was unsure about TOAW but seeing the scenario selection tipped the scales and I bought it. Since CotA was released a couple of days later I haven't had the time to give it the attention it deserves but after an evening's play I can see it's a quality wargame. The sheer scale of it is very impressive. It used to be 'hmm, for D-Day I need this game, for East Front I need that game, for Med I need another game..' Now for virtually any battle/campaign you care to mention - you just need TOAW III.

I've seen people comment that it may be hard to justify buying it if you already have a previous version. That may or may not be true but if, like me, you've never played it before then I would definitely highly recommend it.

and once they come out with Gettysburgh you can probably add that one to the mix!

I can not give you all the good reasons to buy it (not enough time) but I could not think of a single reason NOT to buy it. If you ever played a wargame (boardgame or otherwise) then TOAW III is and can be all your favorite wargames into one package.

This is totally OT but didn't I read somewhere that Matrix is working on an operational level Russian Campaign game? There isn't any furom section dedicated to it but I am certain I heard that was the case. Anyone?

It's called War in the East. It's supposed to be to the old War in Russia what WitP is to Pacific War.
